Besides wearing that grey/day-glo green shirt at Pac-12 media day, Steve Sarkisian answered many questions. One was about the importance of the UCLA game.
“ We know the importance of it. We know the value of that game. Do I want to win? Yeah, sure, I want to go win that game,” Sarkisian said. “But that’s not going to define our season. That game’s not going to define our season. The entire 12, 13, 14, 15 games we play, that will define us. That game is going to be a piece of the puzzle. Do I want to win it? Of course I do. But one game won’t define us.”
What’s your point, Scottie?
I think his point is that its the opposite for UCLA. For them beating USC is their whole season.
Nice try, but not true. But you can keep working on that one. It’s certainly better to beat SC than to lose to SC, but it isn’t a season.
What is true is that the little gutties haven’t won a conference championship since the old days of Cade. You’ve always got an excuse. I told you last year, many times, that you would blow it again, and you did. And now you’ve already got your built-in frosh QB excuse this year. No surprise.
And SC still has a youth excuse, a depth excuse and a coaching excuse. Every team in the South has vulnerabilities. We will see what happens. If beating only 1 team would make Bruins happy this year, it’s probably beating Stanford.
UCLA’s excuses since Cade? We sucked. We weren’t even in contention and there was nothing to choke on until last year.
You are obviously out of tune with USC fans, the Pac-12 coaches and the media. USC is once again expected to win the Pac-12 conference, regardless of depth, youth or coaching. There are no excuses for USC and that includes beating ucla at the Coliseum this year. if Sark loses that game in November, he should be given one more year to figure it out, max.
Mora will never be fired at ucla for not winning conference championships. At USC, he would be because USC is expected to win and go to the Rose Bowl or some other giant.
The expectations (and lack of excuses) at the two schools in football are vastly different. For USC, beating ucla has always been a stepping stone to better accomplishments on the national stage. For ucla, beating USC has always been the end game. You never do squat nationally. Fact.
Right now the rah rahs are delirious. Algohor, Williams and Allen will be sorely missed this year. If they returned I would be much more optimistic. We need everything to go right, the freshmen recruits to plug in to areas lacking depth and no injuries, especialy on the OL and at QB, to win the conference this year.
A lot of good teams in the South and all have holes to fill. It should be an exciting year.
His point is Sark doesn’t get it, and probably never will.
Doesn’t get what?
I think he does get it. Conference championships, Rose Bowls, National Championship, that is what has defined USC and that is what will define his success at USC. If all you care about is 1 game, you don’t get it.
Sark will never win a NC at usc or anywhere else
NEVER say never. Makes you look like a fool, or is it tool.
Exactly.
No one asked the real question…”Sarkiffin, who was responsible for your team quitting on Nov. 22nd?”
Spoken like a true loser.
I’ve noticed an increase with the population of Ravens in my geographical vicinity. I am curious as to the cause of such an occurrence.
Did you move to Baltimore?
That was a good joke!
Ravens? that’s a tell tale sign. the Ravens always show up first, then….the vultures.
#buh-Bam, buh-Bam, buh-Bam
Actually, that is not always true. It depends where in the world you live and whether those species cohabitate.
“Nevermore!”
Are they a protected species in Cali? I wouldn’t mind if that big game hunter dentist culled the flock instead of shooting lions.
I’m not sure. So I’m going to say “don’t know”.
He’ll learn that if he doesn’t beat ucla, he’ll have another house to put on the market
If he wins a National Championship USC will buy any house he wants.
Can’t win NC’S if you don’t beat ucla Mr rah rah
If you don’t have a legitimate argument call the other guy Rah Rah? In fact win the PAC12 you get a shot a the playoff. The PAC12 south winner will lose in conference. One loss will not make a difference who ever it is to. If this team goes 5-1 in the south I bet they go to the conference Championship game. I am not saying they will, just that one game is not going to matter. Sark has to prove it. You sound like a bRuin fan, letting 1 game define success. Chanpionships define success at USC. If they are winning championships you can rest assured they win most times against the bRuins.
I’ll cut his grass for free if he wins us a National Championship!
And that’s a really big yard!
If SC has one loss, to UCLA, but wins the Nat. Champ. is the season a failure? Sark says no. I would agree, we’re Nat Champs with one frustrating loss! What say all of you?
By the way, won’t be buying that shirt!
You didn’t think it went well with those Sansa-belt slacks?
Who would be more angry if that were to happen, USC or UCLA?
Agreed. I’ll take the nattie.
Agree, with you and with Sark’s attitude to media here.At this point we have 12 games scheduled,11 before Ucla. Let’s take each one, including the two before Stanford, and like a former Trojan said” Just Win Baby”…
Steve Sarkisian has the most talent in the Pac 12, but a below average coaching staff, with the exception of Clay Helton, and Tee Martin.Nevertheless, we will soon find out if that makes a difference with all of the star power USC has on their roster.
oh yeah…..Bruins are in Ocho’s head. same with Cody.
trOXans have already lost. like the Dems, Bruins are walking around with smiles and the GOP/trOXans are walking around with clenched teeth and tight ayholes!!
#TakeThatToTheBANK
You must be at a family BBQ.

Bruins looking good, Business is good, Hillary is a lock, the world is spinning in the right direction. you gotta enjoy the good times while they last!!
The Bruins always look good on paper before the season starts – and then break under the pressure.
#PozoleSundayBrunch
stunning comment from the team with the best recruits year after year after year…..but not a speck of crystal to show.
#NoHowNoWay
When you get the crystal, give us a call. Until then, lighten up Bucket. You got nothin.
#JesusLovesYOuTo.
We’ll get it before the trOXans.
#nataSliaH
Hillary is a lock? Her legal troubles are so bad even Idiot Joe Biden is thinking of getting in the race.
I heard a rumor that her and her campaign team are being accused of embezzling money from campaign contributions. Something like that.
the GOP will be searching for emails until Nov 2016, and the last one they look at will say:
“Dear GOP dopes, F O!!
love Hillary”
#ThenWeAllLaugh
No menudo?
I could go for some menudo or parole. It sounds delicious.
ROFLLLLLLLLLL
Well, beating ND and UCLA IS A MANDATORY FOR A GREAT SEASON in addition to winning Pac 12 and going to a top bowl game…but a good season is beating one of them and going to a decent bowl game…going undefeated incl final four is…well…’the DREAM’ season…losing to ucla is not an option for longevity as coach at SC.
baby steps, Yale, baby steps….
A good season is losing one of our rivalry games?????????
We all have our opinion on Sark. At times I wanted to throw a beer can at my TV watching the games knowing he was pulling those strings in games we should have won. I don’t want to be all Koom-bye-yah with you all, but I think we should just support him going forward until something drastic happens. It’s year number two. Our team is has more players than previous years, and that will make a difference. The season hasn’t started and we haven’t lost a game. Let’s ride it out. GOOD THING ARE ON THE WAY.✌️
2012 our season sunk after, preseason hype. Seemed like most bought into the hype, and when game time came we failed…. 2015 we have 12 games scheduled as of today..Each ONE defines the make up of the season, the parts make the whole. The ucla game is number 12,when that game comes ,its my hope it remains a very important part of a excellent season for us.Sark’s response to media here I support, and as you say its year 2, plus first off sanctions… Sanctions hurt in many ways, and we still have obstacles to overcome from them. Its my belief momentum has changed , I support the players and coaches for all they have done this year. With that being said I also expect results, and believe they will come.As of today our record is 0-0, game 12 isn’t in view.
You said it perfectly. These are the biggest expectations since 2012 in terms of potential and hype. The difference is the 2012 team was only as strong as the 22 starters we had on the field. We had no depth whatsoever. That isn’t the case this time around. We have options and more depth. We have no excuses. I think the team is focused and are ready to work for their goals. We’ll have two games to work on things. And we should be ready for Stanford in the Coliseum. We have to just stay focused on our opponents, one game at a time.
Absolutely.. I think Barkley, who I respect and admire as a Trojan, was not the leader that Kessler is this season. I also believe a big reason for Kessler’s leadership is he witnessed and learned as a member of 2012 team.He has said he learned a great deal from Barkley.. Two true Trojan’s.
Wait, we were picked to win the national title and the team had no depth? How can that be when the scholarship limits didn’t even begin until 2012 and Kiffin brought in a full class of recruits in 2011?
Because we had something like 14 transfers. It was like our players were free agents.
When the NCAA ruled their would be sanctions our players had 2 years to transfer to any school and could play immediately. We bled players as soon as Pete left.
read the body language people….this is the look of a shell-shocked coach trying to explain what went wrong. tells you exactly what’s gonna happen in the game. his players already sense it.
#PsychologicalBattleAlreadyLost
The players sense that at USC you are expected to compete for a National Championship.
#LetTheGamesBegin
The NC is not out of the question. Kessler has to throw downfield, ground game has to open up, and defense has to play 4 quarters.
“Kessler has to throw downfield” —> “Kessler has to have time to throw downfield”
Wheeler is overrated IMO.
It’s too bad Kiffin couldn’t lock up Kyle Murphy and Andrus Peat. They would’ve been great on this years team.
Mcquay, Plattenburg, and Seymour need to step it up this year.
Iman Marshall will be the starting safety by week three.
He will definitely be starting in the secondary even if it means Adoree spending more time on offense. I would love to see him playing opposite of Adoree. Seymour has to pick his game up. He gave up too many big passes.
If SC loses to SUCLA it is not a successful season even if the Trojans are 11-1
I SUCLA beats SC it is a successful season, even if SUCLA is
1-11.
