USC Morning Buzz: Pac-12 Champs Or Overrated?

The media picked USC to win the Pac-12 South last week. And now Sports Illustrated says USC is the most overrated team in the Pac-12.

Excerpt: “They must revamp their running game without Buck Allen and have some major holes in their front seven without Leonard Williams and Hayes Pullard. With a brutal schedule that includes inter-division games against Oregon and Stanford plus a nonconference matchup at Notre Dame, the margin is pretty slim for USC to live up to expectations.”

  1. Mr Wolf:
I guess that is why they actual play the games. SI does have a point with schedule, they don’t benefit from the type of soft schedule like UCLA. Nellie get the olives and shaker I’m having martini.

    • But Woody, in the prior two years (2013, 2014) Klown U did have UCLA 2015 schedule and still finished in the rear of UCLA.

This year Klown U has downgraded to a 10 game cupcake schedule – So Corky fetch me a drink and make it a large double.

  2. This is the statement from one SI contributor, Colin Becht.

SI actually ranks USC #8, ahead of everyone else in the Pac-12, and after considering all factors.

    • It’s nearly impossible for UCLA’s season to end in disaster. SI must have forgotten that we play SC in our final conference game.

    • Jack, SI’s prognosticating prowess in the last 50 years is dubious at best – somewhere in the 0 – 10 (100 being best) “got it right” percentile.

Case in point, in 2012, SI had Klown U rated the #1 CFB team in the nation – a prognostication that was “just a bit outside.”

So Jack, you keep twirling the SI/Klown U sign.

        • I was worried about you there for awhile Rockie, but no longer. Sorry.

Jockeying with the Trolls is a complete waste of your valuable time. Same answers, same Trolls, every minute, every day.

          • Gosh Jack, you’re never here and when you do show up you always veer off point.

        • Yes Rockie they have been voted #1 in some polls since 1954, but the Bruin FB team hasn’t finished a ballot box end of season #1.

  3. Of course, they are, Scott……that’s how the media (present company included) works……they love to build people and teams up, then they tear them down…..it’s all just rhetoric anyway… let the play on the field do the talking…….

  5. Sports Illustrated took a direct Jab at Steve Sarkisian by saying USC is overrated, because SC has the most talent in the Pac 12, and on paper should be able to win the conference .But I guess the powers to be at the magazine don’t think Sarkisian can get it done, and neither do I.

  6. Overrated is always a good moniker for your team. Pisses ’em off. This team has proved nothing yet. I hate high preseason rankings – hopefully they’re cultivating some grit starting Saturday.

  7. If Kessler can perform at a high level vs the better teams on our schedule then the sky is the limit. If not then we could easily slip to a middle tier bowl game team .

His record is 3-7 vs Notre Dame, UCLA, Stanford, and ASU the past 2 years. Not to mention that he will also be facing Oregon this season. If he performs like the Heisman candidate that he is then he can overcome any bad play calling by Sark. Cody has to take the bull by the horns this season.

    • As they say on Wall St., past performance is no indication of future results! You can’t combine Sark’s record at UW with SC, different schools, different part of the country, different recruiting ability.

  8. a cold, hard dose of REALITY for the trOXan Rah Rahs, wolfman!!

hey can DISMISS you, they can DISMISS the Cadre, but can they dismiss the BIBLE of modern sports journalism, Sports Illustrated????

wolfman, YOU were the one to RAISE that extensive list of QUESTIONS about Southern Cal, and it’s CLEAR, SI was reading your blog very carefully!!!

    • Don’t give Scott, or SI for that matter, too much credit, Charles.
