Jets QB Geno Smith’s Broken Jaw Sounds Familiar At USC

The big story today is Jets quarterback Gino Smith suffering a broken jaw when he was punched by linebacker IK Enemkpali over a plane ticket debt, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This sounds similar to when USC wide receiver Steve Smith broke tight end Dominique Byrd’s jaw after the pair played video games and Smith owed Byrd $200. Pete Carroll did not discipline the players. The Jets released Enemkpali.

There was also the big basketball incident when O.J. Mayo broke Daniel Hackett’s jaw after some trash talk during a pickup game.

  1. Scott, who cares????…. you promised us that Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick’s eligibility would be decided today, after he completes a class……what’s his status?…….as well as the status of Bryce Dixon?

    • J C-F needs a B or better and NCAA waiver.

The (accused) rapist will never play a down in the Coliseum. Perhaps at the Doak but not here.

    • Bryce Dixon has a hearing before school officials this week. His lawyer, high profile ,has successful history defending wrongly accused students. Dixon has not been charged with crime. If he is not exonerated by school officials, there is possibility of law suite with USC as defended. In July , his lawyer in a Superior court ruling, successfully had a UCSD student reinstated in a similar case as Dixon’s..JK.McKay testified before the school committee, defending Dixon. It is widely believed he should still be student, and his accuser lied.
Note Dixon finished spring courses and would be able to re enroll and play,if the school reverse decision… Politics here, yet Dixon has strong case, and legal representation. With recent ruling in SD, schools now are very nervous.

    • lol… Byrd was a damned good TE… I remember thinking that Byrd outweighed Smith by 70 lbs and was 3 inches taller. Of course Smith didn’t go toe to toe..he cold cocked him and ran. Proves he is smart as well as having a vicious right hand.

      • Byrd was really good. He was a legitimate weapon to our offense. Teammates or friends, boys will be boys. And money won’t stop a fight. I believe they worked it out eventually.

        • Classic that Smith socked Byrd as he was the one (Smith) who owed money. It’s usually the other way around

      • Pete let Smith play, while Byrd was sidelined and had his jaw wired shut. Again boys will be boys.

  2. Pete Carroll never suspended five players after getting arrested for rape, why would he suspend Smith for breaking a team mate’s jaw?

  3. wolfman, remember back in ’03 when you punched the Ragin’ Cajun in the jaw??? after that you could barely understand him when he talked!!

Remind me to NEVER, EVER, back sass you, wolfman!!
