Pat Haden’s Vision For Future

USC athletic director Pat Haden published his fifth-year anniversary letter today, which details the past and outlines the future. Here is the excerpt that caught my eye:

“As I look back on my first five years as USC’s athletic director and as I eagerly look to our future, I feel optimistic and energized. My passion to continue leading our athletic department is strong.”

Does this mean Haden will not be leaving after this year after so much speculation he would retire soon? Read the full letter here

  1. My vision for the future is USC demanding justice from the criminal NCAA on illegal sanctions. How about it Pat?

    • Patience… the BCS Crystal Ball will be re-awarded, along with the Heisman hopefully right before kickoff vs Ucla

      • As much as hate to admit it, seeing Bush get the Heisman back would be a very good thing for USC. But he and his family still were dishonest and greedy and that should not be ignored.

        • How was Reggie dishonest? I have never seen an actual record of that. As far as parents and in-laws and onlookers go, how can an institution police their honesty? Impossible

          • how was Reggie dishonest?????

            OMG!!

for ONE, he ripped off Lake after promising to pay the money back!!

and that doesn’t even START to go into all his other illicit activity!

            #RiverOfDenial

          • Haha, NOT! Show me one shred of evidence that Bush “ripped off” the known drug dealer, posing as a wannabe sports agent, known as Lloyd Lake – that’s ridiculous!

          • WELL, for ONE thing, there’s the TAPE RECORDING where Bush’s dad is talking to Lake and PROMISING him that he’ll get his MONEY BACK!!! Lake then SUED Reggie for breach of contract, and Reggie EVENTUALLY settled and paid Lake his money…..but now BEFORE sinking Southern Cal!!!

Yoyo, HOW MANY MORE SHREDS YOU NEED, BROTHER????

you aint one of those people who IGNORE inconvenient TRUTHS, are you??

            #GlobalWarmingIsAMyth

          • You mean Lamar, his STEP-DAD? My step-dad was an alien, but Reggie’s step-dad was working late nights with TWEAKERS! Had nothing to do with USC

            #RestMyCase

          • ThaiMex aka Bucket, you are a piece of work. First off, you use an alias, ThaiMex, so you can work off all your nasty hatred for anything SC

Next, you have continued your hatred toward SC for over 5-years running, yes 5-years, probably longer, regarding Bush and his ill-advised aid for his kin.

Bush has been penalized enough for this indiscretion, and does not need you, or the likes of you, piling on.

Not that it matters. So keep it up. Not like you won’t.

          • ummmm…your fellow trOXan asserted “there was not a SHRED of evidence Reggie did anything dishonest”….as an OFFICER of the COURT im SURE you would have corrected him yourself has i not lurched forth to correct the RECORD!!!

            #ItFeltRight

      • Why do you think the NCAA would ever do the RIGHT thing?

      • I bet we win our first Playoff National Champion and get our BCS Crystal Ball back before UCLA plays in the Rose Bowl or wins a Pac 12 title.

        • Obviously! They had their chance with the sanctions, but this SC coaching staff is the real deal and people will see that this season, as they already have with recruiting.

          • Oh yeah! I wasn’t gonna go to the Arkansas St. game at first because the 8:00pm start. But I can’t miss out on the chance to see all our freshman play their first game. I’m going. I want to be there and see Imam Marshall take a INT back to the house!!! Or a chance to check out Porter Gustin make his debut. Can’t wait!

          • Those guys are monsters and a must see! I don’t have Pac12 network so i will travel and see the game 🙂

    • I am afraid Mrhawaii that that possibility has come and passed away.

Let us deal with the present and look to the immediate future with optimism and confidence.

  2. Those were certainly dark days when Haden took over. The football program seems to be back where they were when PC left, or close anyway. The basketball program was hardest hit, we’ll see if Enfield can get them back. He still has a long way to go.

    • Agree. Pat got the sun to shine somewhat. But not many of the other programs got better. Of course, why give up a $2M a year job? He’s getting old.

      • Helen, never thought he was, he has to show some significant improvement to keep his job, but he did take over a disaster.

      • 30 Less Scholarships and players free to transfer to any school of their choice would devastate most programs. When you can’t tackle in practice because you don’t have enough players it blows.

Imagine what Sark, Tee Martin, Marcus Tuiasosopo, Keith Heyward and the rest of the coaching staff can do when they have gotten 3 full recruiting classes under them. We thought it would be a tough road back, and it has been. But in a few weeks we’ll get see our more experienced team and group of freshmen who are gonna have you feeling good about this year.

        • Ohio State went undefeated while on sanctions. Coaching can overcome sanctions. We were preseason #1 while on sanctions.

          • We should not only depth, but quality playing depth. That will help big time compared to the 4-5 seasons.

  3. Sure seems from his letter that he intends to stay around for a while. Perhaps you are not happy that Mike Garrett isn’t available Wolf? Human nature dictates sticking around to enjoy the good times after what USC has gone through.

  4. As long as there is Scotch in the liquor cabinet, old Pat won’t be leaving soon.

And Haden’s vision for USC is to be as politically correct as possible.

  5. On behalf of UCLA alumni everywhere I would like to say:
    We love you, Pat.
    Please stay forever!
P.S. Don’t worry about that burning smell, your compliance guys will take care of that.

    • Times, they are a changin. My friend, you enter the debate years to late, the little ride you have enjoyed at USC expense is over. You now return to relative obscurity, where you were prior to sanctions.

      • By “the ride” did you mean football, basketball, water polo or baseball?
Indeed the times they are a changin’ but not the way you think they are. Take away football, which we have three years in a row, and what is SoCal?
Pepperdine with a horse in a bad neighborhood.

    • Dan Guerrero’s wife thinks…..hmmm. We beat USC three in a row, but we’re not playing in Pasadena AGAIN!

      • sas, catch up with the 21 century, there isn’t a Rose Bowl that automatically designates a Pac-12 vs Big-10/12 matchup anymore – at least not for 5 – 10 years.

        • Ok, Ok…Then whatever the sign says outside the Bruin locker room.

-“Attention UCLA Football team and staff, we thank you for another year of residency at the Rose Bowl. Please quickly clear the locker rooms as we begin preparations for the Pac 12 representative (USC) to play in our Rose Bowl Game.”

          • Since 1997 all that matter is playing in the championship game. That is our goal. The last time SC played in the championship game when it was held in the Rose Bowl was 2006. Otherwise the Rose Bowl is just another Poulon Weedeater Bowl. Tom Hansen destroyed the prestige it once had.

        • When was the last time UCLA won one of the major bowl games – Rose, Sugar, Orange, or Fiesta?

    • UCLA no Rose Bowl wins in 30 years. lol

UCLA no football National Championships in nearly 60 years lol

  6. I’m disappointed that his vision of the future did not include flying cars or jetpacks.

  7. Here’s my favorite part of his letter: “I strongly believe that no other university in the world-or athletic department- provides a better and more complete college experience for our students.” (except for the two in his own conference). He apparently forgot about Stanford and It obviously doesn’t matter that there is another institution 10 miles away in the same city that offers it’s students a vastly superior academic experience and on the athletic side has more national championships and has dominated SoCal in most men’s sports since St. Pat has been there.

Keep drinking the Koolaid, Pat but be sure to save plenty for the guys that are paying you $ 2,000,000. a year.

    • USC was just ranked in the top 50 universities in the WORLD….and our athletic tradition is second to none.

      • Apparently 22 u didn’t read OJ’s I didn’t do it letter, because that letter didn’t reflect a Univ. education.

      • Go Toy,
I see you like Koolaid too.
Please go back and check where UCLA ranks in the same survey and compare. Blow out

When you say your athletic tradition is second to none, I assume you mean football not athletics.
Besides losing to UCLA this year in football, basketball, Water Polo and baseball,SoCal is second to UCLA in National Championships (which I believe are athletic) and blows SoCal away in the very academic ranking you refer to. Second to none?

        • UCLA no Rose Bowl wins in 30 years ROFLLL.

UCLA most under achieving football program in college football ROFLLL

        • Are you denying that USC is ranked in the Top 50 universities in the world? Our tradition in baseball, track, swimming, tennis, water polo and volleyball alone would be great, and then add that to our 11 NC in football. No Koolaid, just the facts.

    • Thanks for reading all of our Athletic Director’s message!! You ain’t no Trojan Hata, your a luva!!!

  8. Why would Pat Haden walk away from a Cushy job that earns him $2.5 million dollars a year ? Now if Steve Sarkisian can’t pull the Football team to championship heights, then I can see Haden walking away, but until then, that’s easy money , Baby!!

  9. OMG!!! trOXans are like Birthers and Evolution deniers!! we got one guey INSISTING Reggie was in no way dishonest, and ANOTHER guey claiming Todd McNair never harmed pooches!!!

thanks gueys, wherever i question if i’m too hard on the BUDDIES, i just read comments like these and say, “que bueno!”

    #EasyToBeCruel

  10. I believe USC had its highest showing in the Directors Cup standings this past year. Kudos to Pat Haden.

  11. I don’t know how much more of the blatant rah rah sunshine pumping blind boosterism I can take from all these SoSoCal fans. It’s embarrassing for usc.
As much as I enjoy the entertainment that Wolf provides in an appropriately absurd manner on a daily, I may have to leave forever if these ridiculous assertions of usc’s rise in 2015 don’t stop.

    Perish the thought!
