Mike Garrett At Salute To Troy

Former USC athletic director Mike Garrett, who told some friends he would never set foot on campus again, was introduced at Salute to Troy for the 1965 team reunion and received a standing ovation.

UPDATED: Here’s the video of Mike Garrett speaking followed by legendary assistant coach Dave Levy.

    • Oregon may not have wanted a PAC 12 Network but former Trojan analyzing their practice. Ohhhh the Paranoia

        • Very funny. I just read the story. That’s pretty lame that those ducks would be that paranoid and call the cops on the Pac 12 network guys for absolutely no reason. I got to meet Curtis last year outside the coliseum for the Cal game. He’s a real professional guy and is probably thinking those Ducks are a bunch of idiots.

          • Haha Michael Castillo may be right, but I hope he is wrong – my call is for SC to have 2 losses with all this new talent for this season, and Tate Martell is not a loss

Just fired up for the games to begin

          • I’m on your side. We can have a playoff season to a two loss season. And Tate Martell going to A&M is no big deal. He’s probably the first 5 star that I’m happy to see pass on USC. Too small and won’t grow anymore. I’m very ok with his decision.

        • Also jonnie Morton great catches in that bruin game from Marinovich. Really good WR on some bad SC teams.

  1. What the heck are the posters talking about below. First Mike Garrett got a small amount of the crowd to stand up for him. It was disgraceful the way they were promoting him as some special person to be a Trojan. Most remember him getting fired as AD with his stupid remark of jealousy towards the Trojans from outsiders. Who remembers him costing the team the Rose Bowl with three fumbles vs. ucla giving up scoring opportunities time after time. He is a loyal Trojan in rooting for the different sport teams to his credit.
More shock of seeing him at Salute then anything. It amazes me what a terrible turnout for the 25/50 year teams every year especially the more famous players like a Ron Yary. Todd Marinovich was there and introduced first for the 1990 squad. Sark was so wound up it seemed forced from the first word onwards. Must have had too much caffeine or under the influence of something. Maybe his pending divorce has changed his demeanor. Haden was full of himself with some stale material from last year’s Salute, and a lot of ribbing to the guests introduced by him.

    • Actually, Steve B, what I recall in that 1965 SUCLA game was Garrett running for 205 yards, and then with a 16-6 lead, Troy Winslow, a big loser of a quarterback, decided to run himself, fumbled, and SUCLA (Beban) scored two touchdowns in the last 4 minutes to win 20-16. That was not Garrett’s doing.

  2. Iron Mike! Vindication. Now let’s win an NC and get another Heisman, things that Mike knows well. Fight on Mike Garrett!

  3. Mike is a great Trojan. In addition to being a 2 time All American and winning the Heisman Trophy, USC won 23 NCAA titles and 2 AP Football Championships while Mike was AD.
