USC Wide Receivers Count

With USC taking even more blue shirts, it looks like it can sign around 20 recruits in February. There are currently 16 commits. So what happens with big-time receiver prospects like Theo Howard, Javon McKinley or Freddie Swain still out there and USC already having five commitments from wide receivers?

What is likely is someone who is committed gets dropped or USCĀ backs off on some of the uncommitted receivers. It already sounds like USC is not especially strong with McKinley, who I think is worth taking and better than a couple of the committed prospects. And I suspect one of the committed receivers will change his mind, sort of like tailback Melquise Stovall, who looks like he got dropped by the Trojans.

  1. hate to disagree with you Wolfman but McKinley is NOT better than the guys we have committed. He does play in a high powered offense that generates great stats and i’m certainly not trying to insult the young man. But he is not better than the guys on board now. Also, I think some in the 16 currently committed will get dropped or blue shirt against the 2017 class. Loooong way to go until february commitment deadline. this class is far from set.

  2. Umm, unlike somebody we all know, (mr cranky pants with his cut and paste lifestyle) the staff have a plan. You can grab a few blue shirts next year and team will finally be up to full strength.

    • The cut and paste runs about 24 hr. Plus behind now. Sure SW will step it up and get back into the 24 hr range this week.

  3. McKinley has been off USC’s radar since Josh Imatorbhebhe commited. I like what McKinley did in the playoffs, but he and Imatorbhebhe are similar being bigger stronger, good but not great speed. A lot of people think McKinley is successful because of Centennial’s system. Freddie Swain is awesome, you never know. I’m hearing Theo Howard is a serious option. I’ll predict that USC takes over 20 guys. Some how they’ll make it over 20.

    • Imatorbhebhe jumped 35-40 spots on R—–s..We will have two years with Hampton and Whitney. Imatorbhebhe then follows their mold. Staff knows what mix they want. The Hawaiian lb and the La Mirada DE, both look like possible Blue Shirts. Has the Huntington Beach kid had a official visit?
I think as usual this is all very fluid.Haven’t really looked at how many of our current WR will leave during coming year.Juju likely 3 and out. Again fluid. Like you I think come February, especially with a good year we will land a big surprise or two.

      • Wow. 35-40 spots is a very respectable jump. I’m sure Sark has the Hunnington kid and the La Mirada kid holding off for an official. Only reason its not new is because it barely September.

    • Sark wants to get bigger at receiver and Josh is a monster. His making a big move in the rankings and with his brother here he is pretty solid. He’ll be a great WR for USC.

      • I agree. He’s a bigger guy. And looks like a YAC type of receiver. I hope Imatorbhebhe and Chuma Edoga can try and sway Isaac Nauta to SC. I’ll still take Asiasi, but Nauta is awesome as well.

  4. For the record Melquise Stovall didn’t get dropped. He was still offered as a RB. Stovall wants to play RB, WR, CB and Special Teams. Steve Sarkisian and Johnny Nansen were very upfront and honest with him not promising him anything more than RB.
