  1. Yes it makes sense – the Pac-12 North, save for OR, is in free fall and as to the Pac-12 South – the LA schools are solid along with UT.

USC football is money in the bank

      • Well, not exactly a Pulitzer, a Putzer. Given to the biggest putz reporter in the nation. It was awarded to Wolf on it’s debut, and after careful consideration it was unanimously decided it would be a lifetime honor and would never be awarded again. They rightfully determined wolf was a putz for all time and nobody could ever overtake him.

  2. USC has always, and I mean always, been the straw that stirs the drink for college football in the west. Ya baby. Countywide, college football fans look to the Trojans as the team worth watching.

USC makes the SI cover just because it MIGHT be back. Fight On!

    • yeah, this! or maybe a lot of T shirt fans in a major media market jumped on the bandwagon when the raiders left…

      • Well problem is those were your (1994-2000) years weren’t they? No one bought any Bruin gear.

    • Klown U only stirs the Night Train with a straw is when it schedules back to back tomato can opponents.

      • My little puppy following me around. Oh, that’s right dogs don’t drink booze. It’s my little Troll following me around. Drink On Troll Boy!

      • No Otis, Night Train is what you drink when you run out of Ripple. Put the keys in the freezer. You dont want to get behind the wheel, AGAIN.

        • 59, you certainly know your fortified wine. I’d wager you’re a Boone’s Farm Strawberry Fruit Wine freak.

You spent the day collecting discarded water bottles from Liquor Store trash cans and then blow your profit on sweet Strawberry Wine.

          59, just another SUCCessful Klownster.

  3. this Hoffarth kid is showing a lot of promise…wolfman, the Scott Wolf imitators are starting to sprout up EVERYWHERE!!!

5 sacks gets you a cover?? well then cody should be going back on the cover after the UCLA game!!!

    So Let It Be Written

    So Let it Be DONE!!!

    • Getting through the Pac 12 South will be a challenge. The USC-UCLA game will be one for the ages. The winner will rightfully have huge bragging rights, if the division hasn’t been decided by then. Kessler is a legit Heisman candidate but his team will have to get him there.

  4. Who is Tom Hoffarth? Except, of course, the person that Dean Vernon Wormer was thinking about when he said, “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”

    • He’s actually a decent columnist – he tends to use a lot of words to make his point but his base for his POV is usually solid although also with his own agenda as all columnists exude. He as well as SW are both USC alums. He’s progressive in his political leanings and foolishly posits such periodically when it has little if anything to do with sports.

      • Like Robert Hilburn, the longtime music critic for the L.A. Times? That dude uses more adjectives than Nicholas Sparks. Give me Murray or Malamud – direct and to the point.

  5. Pacific Coast SI sales must be tanking bad. East Coast marketing jerks understand the Klownster’s will buy SI’s rag if a Klownster is on the cover.

Why else would SI feature a Klown U QB sacked 5 times by a creampuff team in the first half and located in the same city of the Pac-12 player of the week: Josh Rosen.

      • Because SI is a rag driven by sales, not content or integrity.

Besides GT, what did K do to deserve a SI cover, except do his job and defeat an undermanned creampuff opponent.

I’d put the BYU QB on the SI cover, who threw the last second successful Hail Mary to beat Nebraska.

Face it GT, K got a SI cover for throwing batting practice. What a joke.

        • Certainly a great, though lucky, play, but Kessler meanwhile, will be solid week after week. And his team will rally around him.

          • As long as Klown U is playing inferior, creampuff opponents. K’s even up competition results are extremely weak.

          • Arky St. is ranked 19 spots ahead of Virginia. Idaho and UNLA and both ranked in the bottom 20, and that leaves BYU and ND. ND is ranked ahead of BYU. Are you the pot or the kettle?

          • I’ll keep it real simple here. NOBS was obnoxious and I’m glad he’s gone.

You can’t leave well enough alone and keep bringing his name up.

          • 59, you’re such a loser; you haven’t the IQ to invent your own put downs. Copy, copy, copy. seems to be your mantra.

            Here’s a new mantra chant 1 million times: I am a 14 ball.

          • no….we don’t want him back…we just want you to knock off the racist b.s…..Stick to what you do best,,,,,one bean, two beans, three beans, four………

          • Jethro doesn’t do anything best except nitpick on spelling. That’s why it is so delicious when he makes an error.

          • got it, Rick makes the list.

El Rey is just confused, sometimes his plane loses cabin pressure and he starts acting crazy… he’ll be back to normal tomorrow.

            #ResilientGuey

          • You and Opie make an odd couple. Never took him for the PC police, after coming out in support of the hillbilly battle flag.

          • yes i believe he did. and the pious passer went to Mater Dei, but he’s not catholic, Jim McMahon and went to BYU, etc.

            Rosen’s father is Jewish.

i wonder what the reaction would be if i mocked a black trOXan player’s appearance based on stereotypical White racist jargon. Nobs mocked moderator Steve Rosenberg with a similar anti-Semitic slur and he was banned.

as Violet Beauregard says, it would be a “freak out” and i would be banned. which raises the question, why does the moderator allow anti-Semitic comments??

            #That’sSoNotCool

          • CHUCKER….that Rosenberg guy is a good guy (can’t say the same for some of the other MODS)….but I’m not 100 percent sure he kicked out nubsie…..I believe nubsie left with his tail between his legs, embarrassed, when his true identity was revealed….maybe I’ll send him another email at THE OFFICE and see if I can get a reply….

          • agree, i was referring to the faux account Nobs used to come back to the blog. he was finally re-outed during the Purge of 2015, only then did he reveal himself.

i take credit for predicting he was still lurking in the darkness and following the blog and have no doubt whatsoever he is reading this comment string.

            #Can’tQuitWolf

          • Are you accusing me of antisemitic comments? Or any negative comment about the young man for that matter. So, “pious passer” is fair? What, it’s a term of endearment? You don’t find any issue with mocking someone based on their faith? Just their race. What about sexual preference, national origin, are they fair game?
            #potcallingkettleblack
            #peoplthatliveinglasshouses

          • no not accusing you of anything, lots of So Ca folk defending the “big nosed Jew” slurs, and i inferred you were suggesting he was not Jewish because he went to a catholic school, ergo the insults were not racist

hey, anyone can say anything they want, but they have to deal with the backlash. i have seldom seen a less ambiguous racist slur and for the perps to claim it was not a racist slur is nonsense.

lastly, i never mocked Pious’ faith, i am of the same persuasion. i mocked his CHARACTER, which was cultivated as some choir boy goody two shoes who i found to be a poor sport and thus a phony.

          • How do you actually climb up onto that high horse?

I picture a staircase you built out of plywood and keep in your driveway.

          • Sing along with your Dictator, Jethro: “Springtiiiiime for Hitleeeer and Germanyyyy. Deutschland is happy and gaaaay. We’re marching to a faster pace: Look out, here comes the master race! Springtime for Hitler and Germany,Winter for Poland and France. Springtime for Hitler and Germany.

          • You mean this one.

He’s Gomer Pyle, “citizens arrest, citizens arrest!”
            Bucky=Barney
            GoToy=Opie
            Owns=Otis
            ThaiMex=Goober
            Ted=Floyd
            The Trolls of Mayberry

I guess trogan aka Gomer didn’t get it.

          • I have never liked you Bucket, aka ThaiMex, because you are basically a hypocrite.

And you of all people are calling out people for being racist, you, the epitome of an “old people are less than human” discriminatory attitude.

            Right

  6. Hey the publicity is great for Kessler, but make no mistake, the Pac 12 South will be like a pack of hyena pups, feeding on each other, only the strong will survive and it will be ugly. Pull up your jock, you too Helen, and get ready for the ride!

    • USC will finish with an 8-4 record at best . And something tells me Oregon is not going to miss a beat .

        • I have no idea, but you win games at the line of scrimmage, and that’s where the Trojans will struggle.

      • You also predicted George Farmer would be excellent in the NFL. I always said he’d bust. Not good enough. Last I heard, he couldn’t even make the 75-man cut on any team. Did he catch on anywhere after fleecing Dallas for 50K?

        • Yes I did, but so did a dozen nfl teams, lead by the cowboys who gave him an unheard of $50,000 dollars. George Farmer has all the physical tools, and 4.3 speed , but it appears he may not have the attitude, or heart for the game .

          • Cowboys were dumb. They just gave the $ away. Farmer had no leverage. Maybe his dad helped. Obviously, the Cowboys have been mismanaged in many ways over the last 20 years and this is just another example of their throwing money away. Anyway, Farmer got cut so quickly, you suggested that was good because he could catch on with another team.

Problem is, he lacks many tools. For you to say he has all the tools is beyond belief. Even I can see he’s seriously deficient compared to other real NFL talent. Has size and speed. Lacks quickness, separation ability, hands, toughness and experience. Has no knack for the game at this level.

When he was at USC, and when not hurt, he was still always badly outshone by Woods, Lee, Aquilar or freshman Smith-Schuster. I wish him the best. But this NFL pipe dream was never realistic – at least in my mind. Hope he’s prepared for a different life. Maybe Arena Football at some level, if not.

Two NFL teams were interested enough to give Farmer a try-out, not a dozen. And he never came remotely close to making either team. All the physical tools? Absolutely not compared to the guys who actually make rosters.

Farmer wouldn’t even be starting for USC if he were there now.

          • Well , physical tools in the sense of size and speed, I can’t argue the other points you made, because your probably right. He should play a few seasons in Canada, and maybe he can improve his attitude, and skills .

  7. Congratulations to Cody.
If he can finish the season alive with an O line like that, he deserves some sort of medal.

    • Lots of possible comparisons to UCLA’s Hundley and the patchwork OL he had to work with last year. Like the Trojans this year, UCLA open the ’14 season at #7 (overrated, in my opinion), and despite getting absolutely hammered all year, BH led the Bruins to a 10-3 record. But our OL was scary–decimated by injuries, etc.

  8. We was robbed – my boy Rosen is clearly a better QB.

    Can I caress your cheeks?

Anyone have a kettleball I can use to smack SI?

    Mr. Bucket I love you!

  9. The pressure is on Steve Sarkisian in a big way, and his personal issues put him front and center even more.

  10. Get a grip SUCLAs:

The title of the article is Cody is back, and maybe so are the Trojans. Cody did not make the cover based on the first game of the season, but for his body of work, now in its 4th year.

SUCLA’s Posin’ Rosen’s first game was not even as great as SC’s Barkley’s first game. Barkley beat Ohio St at their place, and with Troy behind in the last minutes helped carry the team 95 yards for the winner. That drive, maligned by some SUCLAs, included a 26 yard pass that took Troy from its 37 to Ohio St’s 37, and from there he had two sneaks for pivotal first downs.

I will wait on ol’ Posin’ to see if he can top that.

      • John, the two positions are not mutually exclusive. One doesn’t negate the other. There’s no question Barkley started his true freshman campaign with a bang (first with a 15/19, 231yd, 1 TD performance against SJSU, and then with the “big drive” game vs OSU). But so did Rosen. Even if the kid doesn’t live up to the crazy hype generated by game 1, no one can take that beautiful performance away from him–or his winning Walter Camp Player of the Week and Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. With all things, time will tell.

      • O.K., we’re both wrong. it is true Barkley’s first game was at San Jose State, and his second was against Ohio State, not Nebraska as you have written.

Sorry, but I don’t think that makes much of a difference

    • Just like you said. It’s not about Kessler’s first game. It’s about him back and his last shot, along with the Trojans pursuit of making it back on top. Get over it Bruins. You had Brett Hundley on the cover last season. It didn’t work out as planned. Go win football games and worry about yourself instead of obsessing over USC.

    • we are very well aware that you ARE NEVER wrong….your record speaks for itself…..but I gotta ask,,,,any truth to the rumor you were the guy behind the DEWEY WINS! headline?

  11. Congrats to Cody–one of the most underrated QBs in college football in ’14. (39 TDs and just 5 Ints? Ya kidding me?). He’s a class act. His OL, however, is suspect–like Hundley working behind UCLA’s thin, patchwork unit last year.

    • There is lot’s of talent, albeit young. If they can jell CK should have a good season. I’ll wait until the AzSt game to make my mind up.

  12. Why do they need different covers for different regions? Everybody on the West already knows Kessler so this isn’t very newsbreaking. Maybe the east coasters would benefit with this info instead of putting whoever the head coach of Penn St. is on the cover. Like there’s a person on the planet that buys magazines anymore, btw.
