Discuss The Game

What a weird game. USC struggled running the ball and stopping the run. And committed too many penalties. And blew ASU out of Sun Devil Stadium. Are the Trojans back? How did they lose to Stanford? So many questions . . .

  1. Sometimes you don’t have to do everything well in a game yet it can be a total success. Excellent game to watch.

  2. Biggest question is why Adoree wasnt used more against Stanford on offense – hoping to get a rematch against those guys, if we can get past this minefield of a division – Ucla, Utah, and Cal all look good

Great game, and a great time to be a Trojan – thank you Sark and Co!

    • wasn’t it the WOLFMAN who declared Adoree was under used on OFFENSE vs Stanford????

WHEN will the IDIOTS (on other message boards) finally ADMIT the WOLFMAN has FORGOTTEN more about this team than the coaches will EVER know???

      #CadreAkabar!!

      • Uh, Charlie? Is that you? Nice hat… Did it come with a Happy Meal? Are you officially a blog terrorist?

          • Brother Bucket, I see you also have found the True Faith. Can you recommend a good Muslim church in L.A.? I have not yet been to one.

          • You should leave this place.

I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill…

          • You should go.

I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill…

      • Why do you come here, isn’t this a USC Trojans blog? How many names do you use to post on this abomination of a blog?

    • This was a huge win.Huge. players, the leadership and coaches stepped up. Stanford, like Utah are making a lot of noise..How can one at this point truly access the PAC 12?today one could see Utah vs Stanford in title game and have a great case.
Call the game weird, call it what you will SW, but we FLAT OUT took care of business. Pick it apart and be critical.every game is weird.42-14 speaks for it self.28 point spread.something special happen in so many aspects. Big turn overs.WE STUCK THEM, physical football. Best game of Sark’s USC head coaching.Savor it, 12 days to Washington. Plenty of time to break down what needs to be fixed.Today, Tomorrow Savor the feeling of the rebound, praise the team, come mid week, work on improvement.
At one point with game undecided 5/6 freshman were on the field on defense. Wilcox coached a much better game today. So just for today and tomorrow give him his due.8+ huge games remain, With a new monster in the South…. Utah

        • My friend, a game to savor… Enjoy it for the moments. We got much than we asked for.
So so much to improve on and to scrutinize. But Washington is a ways away… So let’s just enjoy this!!!!

      • What are you drinking about best game of Sark’s coaching at USC. The game was decided in the last minute of the 1st half with pure luck of two fumbles causing a 21 pt. swing. Nothing to do with Sark. Another mediocre 2nd half which has been his trademark at USC. ASU was a much over rated team that is why Trojans a 5 pt. favorite by the odds makers. Sure better than a loss agree at this point of time. Wilcox still stinks, couldn’t stop the run. Adoree made the difference being used more on offense, and of course JuJu is best. Win looks pale compared to Utah, and ucla with their road victories. A must win needed vs. UW then onto South Bend to show the team’s real worth in middle of season.

        • Name the good games, or better games Sark has coached at USC.Maybe ND.Luck is in every college game…. Read closer what I said.. Just this game… There’s a heck of a lot to improve on to win, and win in south. As far as what I’m drinking_, its relief for today that I’m not agonizing over another gut wrenching loss.

    • You’re so right. The bad Defense last week took away from that point. Finally Adoree was used like he was supposed to be. ASU was overrated, but we bounced back!

      • One think I heard from Sark in interview beginning of week was to get Adoree more involved. That’s what coaches do.Adjust What do inspired teams do? They create plays, turn overs.some call it luck, yet it comes from inspired pressure on your opponent .There’s all this over rated underrated talk that goes on, but this is the game. Utah, who would have guessed. Stanford now looks like the team to win North. Its always like this, this is why we love it. Crazy week to week.

        • Utah, UCLA, Stanford were impressive. We had a huge win. It was a confidence building victory. We can work on the areas that need improvement during the bye week. And start rolling again against UW. We’re still very much in this. Like you said. Crazy.

  3. If my grandmother had balls, she’d be my grandfather.

Looks to me as though consistent excellence in CFB has been hard to find this fall.

However, USC will play ND, Utah, OR (hey, they came close to beating MSU on the road), and of course UCLA, and some other inconsistent teams. Winning out would not be my expectancy.

ASU played badly AND had bad luck. So many dropped and badly targeted passes by ASU.

I assume ASU stacked against the run, which would explain why some of Cody’s targets were so open.

In the red zone, the advantage of those slower, but powerful WRs is apparent. E.g., press coverage on Juju is risky. Graham probably thought fondly of J. Strong.

Someone please explain the second half strategy at USC. My thought is: never mind the clock; just score 4 more touchdowns! The clock will take care of itself, as will the opponent’s will to resist.

    • There is no luck good or bad. There are no coincidences in life There is a higher power at work, protecting some, guiding and paving a way. Every circumstance, the good and the bad all occur in fate, destiny, luck, synchronicity, the law of attraction – call it what you will.

  4. wolfman, as USUAL you are the sane person in the room.

this “victory” really raises more QUESTIONS than answers.

can borrOcho stay off the Patron long enough to guide this team past a fired-up U-Dub????

    #SupremeLeaderWolf

  5. Great win! Im feeling a bit peeved that we did this on the night regional televised game vs last week on national tv laying that egg. I compared this season to a roller coaster. Here we go! Its distinctly possible ASU is flat out bad.

  6. It was a football game Wolf….
    It wasn’t weird…

Kessler threw to Adoree, Juju, and Mitchell. We said on offense Kessler had to go to other receivers and he did. Wasn’t pretty, but we survived.

    • Returning a fumble 99 yards isn’t weird or at least unusual? Last time that happened was against the Irish.

      • Right on Marvgoux1. I immediately thought of that play against ND last night. They broke our hearts last year with the Hail Mary. So I’m glad we put it on them!

  7. Hope they get 4-5 turnovers every game, hard to win when you do that, just like it cost Alabama vs Ole’Miss, although they still almost won.Utah looked pretty good winning at Oregon…hope running game gets going to compliment passing, and run defense and pass defense, some how improve…ASU played the worst game I have ever seen them play in a long time.

  8. Scott, it looks like you owe Sark an apology (and a bottle of Fireball)….ASU and Oregon really do “suck”….

    • Was Fireball the drink of choice that ill fated night??? That stuff is terrible, it should be banned haha

  9. Juju catching a flair and then not even putting on a move just flat out running away from the db’s kind of said it all. USC had the talent advantage in this one and it showed. Only thing worries me coming out of this game is the O line. Holes need to be opened, Cody needs to relax and set up in the pocket. Not happening with regularity yet.

      • … and Biggie received two on the same play! His second lining up offsides this year- how does a DB line up offsides?

        • Scott Felix missed a key tackle on that long 1st run, but he redeemed himself with a fumble recovery. …he lined up offsides several times, getting called for a penalty once

  10. USC committed to many penalties and they’re offensive line does not look as sound as the pudits said. Otherwise it was a very nice win for usc. The Bruins really showed they’re stuff too. I’d pround to be a Bruin and you should be proud to be trojans. We’re looking for a big showdown in the Colseeum ths November!

      • And you are one whom embraces darkness?

It is a frightening thought that man also has a shadow side to him, consisting not just of little
weaknesses- and foibles, but of a positively demonic dynamism.

    • Stanford, a 10pt. ‘dog, 41 – KU 31, at the crumbling mausoleum.

Helen, you must have missed KU’s electrifying performance. Down in Arkansas checking out Ricky Town’s progress were you?

KU left “no doubts” which team was better.

  11. Truly Wolf post. Scott does the D get any credit for this win? AZ scored 1 touchdown on our 1st team D.

  12. I got nothing. Having been engaged during the first half of game with family matters I was happy to know it was recording. So when some fool ignored my wishes and texted the first half score I decided to start the game and watch it. What I saw was sloppy football from both teams. By the time I reached half time the same fool texted the score again so I stopped the recording and watched live. I saw the last minute of the game.
I am glad we won but we can do better. And Sark avoided Tarmacgate.

    • ASU and Arizona both seemed to self-destruct and SC and f ucla took advantage. But neither really proved anything. Both have lots of work to do to be playoff worthy.

      • Rosen proved he can come back from a really bad game vs BYU throwing 2TDs, running for 1TD and leading the O down the field at will, of course with plenty of room to improve for true freshman.. .

  13. You wouldn’t make a great coach, Scottie. Can’t look back and dwell on every loss so hard. Read one of the Zen Master’s books. Learn from a defeat and move on.

  14. It’s just a win…An ugly desert win, but hey, they needed it, and they got it. Most people doubted they could do it (Hello Gold Sheet). But they won easily, despite having a tough time running the ball, and the penalties. But they played tough run defense, and did what they had to do. They need to improve a ton before the ND game, but they’re on a solid track.

  15. Gee Wolfie, I guess it didn’t matter to the ASU team or its fans that Sark called ASU names at the Tribute to Troy. So much for your theory that ASU would be enraged and ready to inflict brutal harm on USC. You obviously never played sports.

  16. To answer your question we still don’t know if they are back yet do to the level of competition. Other than Stanford they have not played a legitimate contender.

Same with UCLA, as they have yet to play a quality team. Both the Arizona teams were highly over rated.

But if, and this is a big if, USC can get the coaching they deserve, then the sky is the limit. We will find out on October 17th and 24th how truly good SC is.

  17. What a relief this means for Sark, Wilcox and the boys. It means they will not have to listen to all the SC “fans” for two weeks..

.It looks as if Oregon’s reign is over, but losing its quarterback hurt…Utah may be the real deal..

.SUCLA got an easy win, but it must play at Stanford, at Utah, and at SC, so we shall see if SUCLA ” IS GOOD ENOUGH TO SURVIVE ITS OWN SORDID HISTORY.” (per Bill Plaschke). Overcome its own dirty, filthy history?– Gotta love Plaschke.

    • UCLA has won 12 in a row on the road. However, Stanford has a six-game hex on the Bruins, Utah looked very good (though this is just a shadow of the Oregon team of last year), and the Crosstown Rivalry matchup is impossible to predict.

  18. Getting excited about last night’s win , is like getting excited about USC winning their first two games against “Nobody’s” . SC Still can’t run the ball, and they can’t stop it either , and if ASU had a decent QB, then the Trojans would have been challenged .

    • You’re in for a rough season Fred. May as well get used to it and quit complaining. What, you expect USC to hire new trench coaches and bring in some amazing ringers mid-season? The die is already cast for this season and you know it.

USC is what it is, a talented skill team with weaknesses in both coacing and talent in the trenches, both sides. We’re capable of beating a really good team but will for sure lose at least 2 out of 3, and probably 3 out of 3 to Utah, ND and ucla. The trenches usually win out, but rivalry games can be unpredictable, so we could actually beat ND or ucla with some weird bounces.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. The USC Trojans you want to see won’t be here for awhile.

      • What USC Trojans is Fred even dreaming of???? Even Pete Carroll teams did not romp ASU like that in the desert, always was a struggle in that house.

Keep crying Fred, if that’s what you like to do! Enjoy your misery

OR, root for a team you like!

I like the Trojans exactly how they are

      • Your absolutely correct, but I have to express my concerns , because i have 4 years of frustration, and the current athletic administration is still in place.

  19. I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill…

  20. It seems to me that so many of usc’s scores this season are a result of long plays, and not moving the chains. If usc wants to be taken seriously as a playoff contender then they have to be more consistent.

  21. It’s easy to find fault some 13+ hours after the game ended but can someone tell me what Mac Browne had only one pass for 4 yds and did nothing else except hand off the ball? With a lead this big that was a lost opportunity for him to get a deeper feel for his own skills as well as where he was wanting.

    Regardless a great win!

  22. I don’t know. Probably. But when Game Day is at a USC game and Lee Corso picks the Trojans we are 17-0.

  23. Congratulations to Sark to winning the one game each year that he isn’t supposed to win because the other team hands it to him by making dumb unforced errors, just like Stanford last year and every year at Washington! Now, he still has two more games to lose based on his coaching! Bite On!

Time for Sark to sleep with one of Pat Haden’s kids so he can keep up with Kiffin!
