USC Recruiting Math

USC currently has only three scholarships left for the 2016 recruiting class. Five blueshirts are already on the team. Four players just signed scholarship agreements. And there are 13 committed players. That leaves three scholarships.

Does anyone seriously believe USC will merely add three more players? Someone will probably get dropped. Someone might decommitment. If USC only adds one more wide receiver, Theo Howard of Westlake, that means six of the 20 players who are not blue shirts will be wide receivers.

And if you include blueshirts, seven of the 25 are wide receivers. If USC adds Howard and say, Freddie Swain, eight of the 25 are wide receivers. What is this a 7-on-7 sport?

          • Who cares? We GOT THE HARDWARE. Flush the crystal, we’ll take the TITLES.

          • As a loyal Trojan I must admit you are right. We have never won anything legitimately. I am proud that we now go bowling under Sark without having to cheat. FIGHT ON!

          • SC has never won anything legitimately?
What about national championships in the 20s and 30s. Did SC cheat?
            How about 1962, 1967, 1972, 1974? Did SC cheat?
And in 2003 and 2004 it was all about Reggie Bush, which incidentally had nothing to do with SC’s performance on the field. And I note that the AP national championships were not forfeited.

So get a life, faux Trojan

  1. I remember what happened some years back when the team went thru numerous linemen injuries and didn’t recruit that extra lineman or two and how it affected the games then… you can’t tell me Sarkisian hasn’t seen or heard of those instances. Steve, don’t fall into that trap of oozing thru too many skill players at the cost of sacrificing the trench-men. It will come back to haunt you.

  2. Sark has a plan and it is hard to argue with his results so far. Have you seen Cody’s stats? Have you seen JuJu;s stats? Sark is proving himself as the best offensive mind in college football. Let’s hope he sticks around South Central for a long time. We are going bowling again. FIGHT ON!

    • Yes on all accounts. Although, I still never understood why our mascot wears a skirt. I think its cute, its just I’m not sure others will understand Tommy’s obvious alternative lifestyle.

  3. I’m looking for drops and decommits. The focus needs to be line depth on both sides of the ball.

  4. Sark knows what he needs. He has climbed to the top of college football and will be there once again for our beloved trojans. Fight On!

  5. Wide receivers are just running backs who can catch. They also make good defensive backs if they can tackle. Don’t be fooled by the numbers right now they are like Trump’s tax plan-they just don’t add up.

      • “And they are the best. You know why? Because they’re winners, like me. Not the worst, like the rest of the Pac-12, which is populated by losers, ugly losers, probably filled with Muslims, Chinese, and Mexicans”

(PS done with a heavy dose of tongue in cheek…happy Friday!)

  6. Instead of writing snarky comments about SC do some reporting and find out why JuJu Smith has missed practice for two days for “personal reasons.”

  7. TRENDS – Looks like Pac12 is 0-6 in conference home games so far this season, and ASU is 3-0 coming off week 4 losses for the past 3 years straight.

  8. Howard will most likely be a Bruin. Swain was eating up DBs at the Opening, but unless we drop a receiver he’ll probably go elsewhere.

Must get recruits In My Opinion:
    Jordan Elliott DT
    Jack Jones CB
    Lamar Jackson Safety

      • He’s a must get talent that the staff should be hounding all the way to signing day. He’s a kid, maybe he’s rubbed me the wrong way a little bit with his back and forth with USC. But at the end of the day he’s still a kid so I understand he’s just going through the recruiting process. He is a must get, but….I would take a 5 star DE or DT like Rashan Gary (who will take an official). But yes my good buddy I think we need to stay on him.

  9. I stated the same sentiments in a post after the Stanford debacle. When you run a up tempo, spread offense you will need a lot of receivers and running backs. This usually leads to depletion in one area of the team, usually the defensive line. All of the great teams that we have seen in both professional and college football have been dominant on both the offensive and defensive lines, but for some reason Sark, RichRod, Dana Holgerson, Art Briles, etc. seem to think playing this “basketball on grass” is the best way to go. Anyone here remember how John Jenkins and the Run N Shoot offense at Houston did? When they were playing the likes of SMU and scoring 92 points everyone thought it was great. Then they ran into the U and got thrashed 40-3.

  10. 7 or 8 receivers? Recruiting rankings is what Sark is looking for huh? Who cares about recruiting for needs when you can have the #1 recruiting class!!!

  11. Well, it does seem like too many, but I’m sure some will decommit and others will be DBs.

  12. As far as recruiting goes, we should trust this staff. Two years ago, they loaded up on athletes who could play and contribute at multiple positions (JuJu, Adoree, Jalen Greene) and offensive lineman. Last years class is already paying dividends as many of the true freshman have seen the field. Guys like Biggie, Osa, Gustin, RoJo, and Cam Smith are already making plays and pushing to start. They also shored up the DL depth.

With this upcoming class, USC is stockpiling athletes again that can potentially contribute in a variety of positions. Trevon Sidney can potentially play corner, I’ve heard Michael Pittman can be a hell of an OLB, Mique Juarez can play multiple spots and Wolf is fond of showing us videos of his offensive highlights so maybe he can play some RB too. USC is in the mix for a lot of other talented guys and in my opinion, should reel in another strong class.

  13. Wolf thinks nobody on here reads other blogs and gets newsletters. This stuff is 3 days old.

  14. USC has a total of SIXTEEN 2016 commits so far. Not the 17 you claim (13 commits, 4 early enrollees). Did you forget that Maurice Stoval decommitted? Possibly you are adding C.J. Spiller to USC’s recruiting total?

Next, USC has 5 wide receivers in the 2016 class (Sidney, Vaughs, Jones, Pittman,J. Imatorbhebhe) , plus one blueshirt, Burnett. That makes 6, not the 7 you claim.

USC therefore has 4 additional scholarships to give, not 3. USC can always go the blueshirt route again next year to add a couple of more guys if needed. Until they get their roster up to 85, this is not a bad strategy.

Try checking your facts a bit better next time.
