Colin Cowherd Defends USC Coach Steve Sarkisian

COWHERD.AUGUSTAlas, I do not listen to the show. But I’ve heard from some readers that radio host Colin Cowherd (above, in USC shirt) defended Steve Sarkisian against media criticism. Or something. Anyways, I figured I would let you guys discuss it, if you heard it.

  1. No need to mention that you don’t listen to the show. In fact it probably means you do.

  2. I heard it and Colin was 100% correct. You like to say you were around the PC era. Colin is from Washington, has season tix and knows what is going on up there. So, sure, he knows more about Sark at UW than you’ll ever know.

  3. I did not listen to the show either but I wish Cowherd would defend Coach JIm Mora once in a while. Do you agree with me that other than Michagan Coach Jim Harbaugh, Mora is the best coach in college football? It’s not just that I’m a UCLA fan, it’s that I really believe it and I’ll bet you do too even if you won’t admit it. What’s Mora’s overall record at UCLA, 45-8 or something? The guy’s a winner!

    • Not yet. He’s made huge strides but he has to win something first. Just beating SC is not enough. I don’t like him, but I think he’s a good coach, just not in the upper tier yet.

    • When a Mora lead UCLA wins a PAC-12 championship and beyond, then you will see some adulation beyond him being a successful coach. He has good talent over there. But has he developed that talent enough to win championships?

      • I guess you forgot UCLA already won a Pac-12 south title? LOL, short memory I guess. Go Bruins!

        • You’re kidding Ricky, right? That is reminiscent of the Sacramento Kings celebrating their Pacific Division title and the Lakers winning it all that year. Saban and Meyer aré measured by their Natty’s. Does that mean that UCLA actually celebrated that title? Those aré some pretty modest expectations.

        • Come on… that isn’t a championship of any type. That is just a division lead qualifying you for a championship game. Are your expectations that low?

    • Jim Mora is a better coach than Nick Saban or Urban Meyer?? Further evidence that Ucla fans are truly touched.

      • Are you kidding?!? I’ll take Mora over Saban or Meyer any day. Mora’s building something special in westwood, and you can be sure if Ohio State or Alabama had a chance to take Mora as their head coach they’d grab him in a heartbeat!

    • I’ll take Mora any day over Sark, but that’s only because I think Sark sucks. Mora is a competent coach, but he’s not in the same league as Saben, Myer, Harbough, etc…

    • First off, Jim Mora doesn’t need defending, everybody knows he’s building a power over at UCLA, and Mora wasn’t a bad NFL coach either, he just had the coach killer(Michaesl Vick) as his Quarterback. And no way is he the second best coach in college football, because he hasn’t accomplished anything.

  4. Most UW fans thought Sark had taken the program as far as he was capable and that was a 7-8 win standard. Uw had just spent 250 million renovating Husky stadium and fans still thirst for the dominance of the Don James era. Sark was on thin ice at Uw , his drinking and immaturity were evident at Alumni functions as it was with his staff. Had he lost the last two games against OSU and Wash St after a usual road blowout at UCLA his seat would have been very hot at UW. UW got jte right guy in Petersen for the long term of the program.

    • It all starts with Pat Haden and his inability to “think outside his box”. He may be a Rhode Scholar in the classroom but he lacks the foresight that was needed to hire a head coach with the maturity and football knowledge necessary to lead a talent laden program that has been “lost” since Pete Carroll left. Pat Haden’s ridiculous decision to hire Sarkisian with his UW record and all of his “antics”, that we all know Mr. Haden had to have knowledge of, is nothing short of embarrassment for a University so rich in football strength, history and tradition. It is time for both Pat Haden and Sarkisian to be removed from their positions and then and only then, can USC start rebuilding a program that can once again be “feared” and respected.

  5. Colin cowherd reminds you of JIm Cramer on MSNBC . More of an entertainer than anything else. Great podcast on Fox Sports about the three most interesting colleges to take a run at Chip Kelly if he returns to college. Maryland, USC, and Notre Dame.

    • I don’t think Chip Kelly would ever go to a University that has restrictions with their recruiting, like Notre Dame. That’s why Urban Meyer didn’t want that job prior Florida.

  6. For someone who supposedly never listens to Colin Cowherd’s show, it seems odd that you constantly make reference to what was said on his show and that you have been doing this since 2007. You must have a lot of people that, in the course of casual conversation, bring up Cowherd’s show and you are struck with how this could be great content for your blog. I suppose you don’t read Athlon either, it just cuts and pastes itself.

  7. It just riles Wolfie to no end that Cowherd hit the big-time. Tough toenails Wolfie – Cowherd’s making massive dough at ESPN and now Fox. Some guys got it, others don’t. At least he’s a player. You’re a little cut-n-paste blogger with a penchant for Trolls.

    • Jack we don’t really get it.SW is on verge of hitting his big time!!!! TMZ !! His posting, his takes, he’s one major rumor filled scandal away.
Mean while again he refers to”some readers” he should name his source. Could it be…?
Mean while let’s play Football…. Let the players be the story…

    • Tough toenails are infinitely superior to toenail fungus.
John Mac will back me on that one.

  8. I like Colin Cowherd, and listen to him every morning, he’s real , and always gets to the point . But im going to have to disagree with him on this one , and I don’t have a particular agenda for Steve Sarkisian. But if you do your homework as Cowherd suggested this morning, you will see that no top assistant coaches wanted to join Sarkisian at USC, why is that? They are the ones that are in the know, not a radio host . Cowherd also acknowledged that Sarkisian is a immature party guy, well guess what ? That’s not how you establish yourself as a leader of a major college football team .Which is why Sarkisian has struggled in that department, in a big way. Youth, and inexperienced players have nothing to do with the play of the offensive line, it has all to do with attitude, and lack of coaching. That’s the exact same line that produced a 1400 plus yard running back, last season, isn’t it ? Well they sure aren’t playing that way. So before somebody starts tooting the Sarkisian horn, they better do the research.
