Just One Strange Decision

SARK.WASHI’m still trying to figure out why USC tried to kick a field goal with less than four minutes remaining and trailing 17-12? It was fourth-and-9 at the 28-yard line. And USC had only one timeout!

“If we kick it, we make it and we’re down 2 and we get a stop, it was a natural decision, especially after the sack (on the previous play),” Steve Sarkisian said.

Or how about you just go for it because you don’t have enough timeouts and Justin Wilcox can’t be trusted in the cluch?

  1. Sark doesn’t know how to play to win. He does not scheme well or make good in-game decisions. Basically, he’s an overrated coach.

    • Overrated? Without a doubt. But the more accurate expression would be an “unqualified” coach.

    • Why the negativity towards Sark? We are averaging over 40 points per game and have a winning record. What more can you expect? We are not Ohio State or TCU. Please be a little more realistic with those expectations. FIGHT ON!

  2. Yep, I must say that call was the most appalling decision I’ve seen from a “quality” football coach in quite a while. How in the world is this man coaching a program like USC? It’s simply unbelievable!!!

    • Sark is doing very well when you consider that the program was ravaged by sanctions. We are headed for a bowl and JuJu has a ton of catches. In fact JuJu will be a very high draft pick because of Sark’s second to none, offensive scheme. I have no doubt that USC will be competing for PAC-12 South titles in a few season from now under Sark. Just give the man a chance to coach a team with a full deck. FIGHT ON!

      • Doing well? lol. Speaking of which, I’d say you’re dong well camouflaging yourself as a Trojan fan, when in fact you’re expressing the wishes of SUCLA fans.

      • Agree with Nick , once Sark gets the roster where he wants it this team will be freaking rolling! Just hope its within the next 5 years. Maybe Sark is a better coach when he drinks

  3. last year all over again, maybe worse…you play as coached and practice…out coached ,you lose…fight on.

  4. This may lead not only to a parting of the ways with Sarkisian but also with Pat Haden as AD. I realize this is only the 2nd year in a 5 year deal and most allow a minimum of 3 before a firing is made but I believe in this scenario Sarkisian is done.

    • The burning question is whether to root for a big Notre Dame win and end this or for Sark to turn it around ?
My big trip for the year just got smaller. Packing
black swag – the leaves are changing color and I
won’t have to change if its Sark’s funeral. Pat isn’t
      going anywhere though…

      • You think Sark’s employment will hinge on getting blown out by ND? Everyone should expect ND to blow out this sucky USC team.

    • Come on Albarado…Just because you are unemployed doesn’t mean Sark has to join you on the unemployment line!

  5. Out Coached, unprepared, overwhelmed, out played…

We have had bookend all-Americans at USC…now we have bookend idiots with Sark and Wilcox.

The closest Kessler will get to a Heisman is walking through heritage hall

    4-7 is a strong possibility this season…

  6. As a general rule in football, if you are the home team you go for the win, which in this case Sark didn’t.

  7. As a Bruin fan (and more of a college football fan), I call them as I see them. Right now it looks like Arizona and UCLA are the only two beatable teams left on USC’s schedule. Unreal

  8. I have tried to be even handed, but…….With the Trojan talent & experience do you think a Saban-Harbaugh or Meyer coached team loses last nights game? Where is the next Saban-Harbaugh-Meyer type coach?

  9. It’s happening again, they go into SoCal as 5 stars and come out mush.
You bozos are killing our RPI, get it together, you need to be in the top 20 when we beat you.

  10. Snarknado if the kick was from 35 maybe u do it … it doesn’t matter he is so fired the booing in the 1st half was loud and clear

  11. I think the entire stadium had the same question…a field goal?? Probably the only ones that were supportive were the Washington fans thinking we’ve got this one now, thanks Steve, we take back everything bad that we said about you….

  12. To all the Sark detractors I have say you are right. That was a very poorly coached and unprepared team last night. Washington could have put up 40 points as wide open as their receivers were. Get ready for 6-6.

  13. It is now becoming apparent there is a morale problem with USC and the players just don’t want to put out for Sarkisian. This is a repeat of what happened with Lane Kiffen. Pat Haden had a chance to cut this foreseeable problem off when he failed to put Sarkisian on a medical sabbatical after his drunk incident. The Washington players wanted to show that they weren’t a second rate team that Sarkisian left to coach the so-called first rate team in Hollywood. What did you expect when Haden got rid of an assistant coach the players cried for when he was skipped over for the head coach job and left? Haden said he made his decision on Sarkisian in the best interests of the players. Hmmm

    • naw…..the Agin’ Cajun was too “unrefined” for Paddy O’Hadden. can’t you see him taking off his shoes at some fancy pants dinner party??

      #BeverlyHillbilly

    • I’ll bet the players have lost confidence in Sarkisian. After all he was pulled off stage by his boss, in front of them, because he was not of sound mind to speak!

  14. A quote from Jimmy Johnson on 9/27/15, Fox Sunday ” It is never the players fault , either a team does not have enough talent or the coaching stinks ” . What do we have ?

  15. at least that FG try had some attempt at strategy behind it…what baffles me is the fact Tre and Jones were running wild all night and then, after they rip off some runs, bborrOcho would have Cody try 3 straight passes and stall the drive!! even the accouncers were saying “run it!” and back goes Cody to pass!!!

if Petesen was having success like that running the ball he rides those ponies all night!!

borrOcho, he has to try to get Cody his stats.

  16. should never arrogantly assume that we can blow out any team in the PAC-12 given the talent, home field, and a coach like Sarkisian to take us back to the promised land. Now we have to play Notre Dame, Utah, and Cal after the pathetic performance against the huskies??? Either we were completely out of sorts, or maybe we are not as good as we think we are!!

  17. We need to get Cowherd on here. We are freaking rolling! Media needs to quit attacking Sark right?

  18. I will not jump off the Sark wagon just yet. It was a great decision to kick a field goal. The Kicker is to blame. Has anyone heard of an onside kick??? Our defense played great all game too. We would have had the ball with the best QB in College Footbal with over a minute left and down by 2. Sark was correct and you all are way wrong.

    • You must have watched a different game
USC — first rate team with a 2nd rate coach
UW — 2nd rate team with a first rate coach

      • UW has a first rate coach? They are 1-2 on the season, because their other 2 wins are against FCS opponents. Soooo, they beat a great program, it happens, ask Louisiana Monroe about it.

    • When did southern cal get Trevor Boykins to play QB for them?? And why are you blaming the Kicker Albarado? is it because he is latino? Are you a racist?

      • Ted,
Why are you trolling? Don’t pretend that Cody does not have a great QB rating. Sark has built this program and will continue to so for many years.

    • Maybe you are a ‘ruin troll in disguise. A very stupid decision to try a 45 yd fg with a no leg kicker, and then hope for an onside kick. He is no Pete Carroll in that situation. One TO left, also. The team on the 28 yd. line needing 9 yds. for a first down, go for it. Hail Mary not in the picture.

  19. Kick the field goal because Sark is about image not about substance… Looks better to lose by 2 then to lose by 5! Sark is an offensive genius! Come on and sign him to another 4 year extension!

  20. May be Sark thought Tre Madden didn’t drop the ball on the two point conversion??!! Madden was wide open after all. If only Sark could recruit 6 star blue chipper who don’t drop wide open passes… At least Sark isn’t mixing meds with alcohol!

  21. When I saw the field goal team come out, I thought the very same thing… oh know… Sarkisian by then had no confidence in his offense and his confused QB who was clueless. When the field goal was missed, you just felt the team itself was resigned to losing.

  22. I don’t think it matters because their play calling throughout that game completely sucked and was nonsensical. USC didn’t stand a chance of winning with that coaching, so kick a field goal or not, it was going to end with an L, because they coached to lose. They were running all over Washington and instead decide to keep trying to get sacked, I mean pass… and failing.
