Some names being floated: Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Rich Rodriguez (Arizona), Gary Patterson (TCU), Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern) #USC
— InsideUSC (@InsideUSC) October 12, 2015
I asked Jack Del Rio in May how much he wanted #USC job in 2013? “I still want this job. Just kidding, I love my job (with the Raiders).”
— InsideUSC (@InsideUSC) October 12, 2015
Well cuz is just being modest. Scott is on the short list for the job but the there is one stipulation that he must bring Bucket as his DC.
SWEEEET!! i run a 6-4-5 defense — stops the run AND the pass!!
…but the booze stays.
#TecateOrPabstBlueRibbon
I think you may have something this time. No team has ever had the courage to get penalized every down when on D.
From that list I like 1. Gary Patterson, 2. Kyle Whittingham 3. Pat Fitzgerald 4. Rich Rod
Those guys don’t want to step down to coach our Trojans. We need to hire a realistic candidate.
1. Ed O with Norm as OC
2. Dave Wannstedt
3. Clay Helton
4. Kris Richard
give it up pal, your schtick is tired. don’t embarrass yourself any more troll.
Schtick? I am confused by your comments. We are all Trojans here. FIGHT ON, BROTHER!
How does broken record sound.
Nick had such a good thing going here. Sad to see it end in such humiliation and ignominy. Guess this is just a time for new beginnings all around….
Let’s hope Haden listens to more than he did on the last go round. I think he has learned a hard lesson:
1. If you deem a HC you didn’t hire (Kiffin) in competent
2. permit an assistant to hold the reins (Orgeron)
3. then decide to hire another former assistant (Sarkisian)
All three former assistants for PC.
Don’t be surprised at the result – you don’t need to control the head coach Haden if that is your continuing need then move on – true solid successful head coaches are not controllable.
Let’s hope Haden is NOT part of the process.
1. Ed O with Norm Chow as OC
2. Dave Wannstedt
3. Clay Helton
4. Kris Richard
A list made in heaven, Nick. Only one name missing. Mike Leach.
Youre all assuming a competent proven HC wants to come to USC. Just being honest… its a $h!tt¥ job right now.
They say that you should avoid being the guy who follows a legend; it’s better to be the guy who follows the failed guy who followed the legend.
So it seems like it would be EVEN BETTER to be the guy who follows the failed guy who followed the failed guy who followed the legend! Straight math, homey!
I dont mind being wrong! Especially when its good!!
Boom
The job becomes much more attractive with 1st rate AD.
First to second that!
Explain to us why this is a bad job right now. The sanctions are done. The facilities are upgraded, and more are around the corner. A new coach would be following Pete but after two other coaches flopped. The program is still among the most prestigious college fb brands. The school and alums have more money than ever before – yes, even more than Michigan – to hire a new coach. And you’re in the 2nd largest media market, and the largest recruiting.
I suspect you’re joking.
He isn’t. Why would any sane FB coach want to join the circus that is KU.
The person who is sentenced to the KU FB program will be the 6th HC in 3 years.
Same was deemed before the2001 season – hackett sacked – he in a string of poor coaches stretching out 20 years – boom – an ex-NFL HC caught Daryll Gross’ eye and he was able to convince Garrett to give him a try.
All the pieces are in place to have another great run and this time w.o. a AD fixated on deeming an average hc be given that which said coach was never worthy of – he hadn’t won with consistency.
SC’s loaded: money, tradition, talent (though uneven), great conference, facilities, location, weather, best NFL pedigree of any college, numerous Heismans, NCs, 24 RB wins and we’re finally out of both the good and bad shadow of Pete Carroll. We can truly move on now.
With Sark suddenly a goner, we’re gonna bring in a great coach. I’m not sure who will make the choice, but the decision will land a guy with the chops and gravitas to end the nonsense. You just can feel it. That’s how the cycle goes.
These poor Trolls are just scared right now. First about losing their advantage over SC, because it’ll soon be gone. Second about yet another Stanford humiliation. Third that Mora has known his perverted punter was being investigated a year for rape and hid it and played the rapist.
Today was a great day for the USC football program. Very bad day for Sark, which I hope propels him to a better life as a sober person, not trying to do a job he was never qualified to do. God bless you Sark. Thanks for trying and Fight On!
Right Itchy, some FB tradition! KU’s next HFBC will be the 6th in 3 years. 2016 recruits are de-committing, and the Mighty SUCCcess’ are 1 – 2 in conf.
Yet, Toejam sunshine pumpers, rah – rah’s like yourself proclaim the Toejam the most talented team in the Pac-12. LOL.
Lol.. .”#ClownU is back” circa 2012, 3years later #ClownU is on HC #5 .. .
Nope. CA is crowded, expensive cost of living, high taxes and lots of traffic. $5mm per year there is not that much compared to midwest and southern states. Also other universities dont have a jackwad AD like PH and and egomaniac president like Madmax that will throw them under the bus.
Chip Kelly provided The Eagles don’t get it together, may be looking to return to glory.
Fitzgerald is an interesting choice. He has done well at a highly regarded academic institution. He is defensive minded and is a high quality guy, although he is a Northwestern alum and it may be difficult to pry him away. But $$$$ is a strong temptation.
During the last coaching search, I wondered if they might get him, but everyone told me that I was nuts because Fitzgerald is a Northwestern alum. Wonder if he’s still bitter about that 1996 Rose Bowl?
He’s a good football coach and apparently a high quality person. Whether or not he wants to come to LA is another matter. He may enjoy the calm and security of Evanston.
He also went to Northwestern.
Evanston is a nice place if you don’t mind the winters. I wouldn’t blame a guy for staying there.
Fitzgerald may want to get out of that conference, because with the addition of Jim Harbaugh, and Urban Meyer, he has no chance .
Has anyone looked into Justin Wilcox? Sarks loyalty to him has always been suspect given his poor performance as DC. wonder if he was a cover man for Sark?
some of the chatter has borrOcho being a bit of a confrontational drunk….is this why his coaches dint watch his back or tell him to take it down a notch?? or maybe they were ALL party boys. wouldn’t surprise me if borrOcho surrounded himself with heavy drinkers so his behavior wouldn’t be frowned upon…
#ItAllAddsUp
Wonder if we could PRY Gary Andersen out of Corvallis?
Not a bad choice, because he’s solid, and had Utah State competing with any and everybody .
My thoughts exactly Fred – he darn took down Auburn four years ago
Everyone calm down here. We aren’t going to see a new hire until after the season. All quality candidates are currently unavailable. We can wait. Just as long as we get a QUALITY candidate this time.
my number one choice would be Bill Snyder but theres no chance of that happening my other number one choice would Dan Mullen
Bluntly any potential proven candidate would wonder why Haden chose Sarkisian in the first place and I suspect would be very clear on what can and should be expected from the athletic department director and what is understood is none of their (AD) concern.
Interesting story in the la times about the salute to Troy event. Apparently Todd marinovich, noticed sark was totally intoxicated, prior to going on stage. He alerted USC officials, that sark should not be doing any speaking because of his condition. USC officials ignored him. Thumbs up to Todd for taking a stand. Thumbs down to pat Haden for ignoring him.
Good night best you leave now Pat Haden – you came because of Nikias disgust with Garrett and your arrival was to bring accountability to prevent any further NCAA actions or scandals.
What the heck is this true? Power in your grip Mr. Haden – if this is true – goodbye
If your story is true, and I have no reason to doubt you Mr. Xcool, that’s reality imitating a Hollywood script.
If it comes out that handlers prevented now what?
Question did Sarkisian have any treatment after Salute To Troy
Here we go again. Everybody has an opinion and they are all different. Lets see who is interested. Wolf is baiting everyone. Bronco is the man.
Kyle Wittingham, Gary Anderson, and perhaps Sonny Dykes. Dykes may not be a household name, but he’s solid, and has a history of winning more with less, like the other two I mentioned. And coaches like that can win big with a School like USC as their foundation, and all are safe bets .
Enough with these offensive guys. They don’t care about defense and they think they can outscore everyone. USC has just suffered through two coaches who had this philosophy.
Knock back 12 fireballs and skip your pain.
Yes. You are correct. Fire balls cause pain.
USC needs a solid coach, not a fancy egotistical coach, that’s not necessary at a school like SC. They need someone that has won consistently, but needs a great institution to take them to the next level. That’s where a Kyle Wittingham, and a Gary Anderson come into play , because when you coach at USC, most of the recruiting takes care of itself.
Fred, what about Alabama’s Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart? His name was on ReignOfTroy’s list of 10 potential candidates.
I’d like to see what Kirby Smart has accomplished prior to Alabama, because he’s in a situation where lots of average coaches can excel. I know Jim McElwain was Nick Sabans offensive coordinator prior to Colorado state, and he’s done wonders since arriving at Florida. So maybe Smart is a name USC should consider .
He’s been with Saban since 2004 so he’s actually been there every step of the way helping Saban build up his program and Defense.
Believe it or not, Saban may be on the market. I remember earlier in the year Finebaum saying Nick is getting tired of being under the microscope at Bama. John Gruden is in San Diego right now. I hope Haden had the foresight, which I doubt, to send someone down there to gauge his interest.
Jon Gruden? Wonder if Haden has the stones to meet with him and ask what USC needs and who has it – wonder if Haden is that smart and I think he is.
He should be waiting outside the ESPN booth ready to take Gruden to a Hotel room with a big pile of $$$$$$$!!!!!
John Harbaugh, Brian Kelly, Sean Payton, and Jim Mora. Kyle Wittingham will get the job, however. For AD, uh, hum…. Marcus Allen.
Todo bad Ken Norton is part of the Carroll coaching tree.
I’m cracking up over the Rich Rodriguez suggestion. ..lol Really? Ask the folks at Michigan how that worked out for them .
