Pat Haden Press Conference

I’ll be updating the blog with Pat Haden’s comments here around 10:35 a.m.

Pat Haden flashed a Conquest sign to me and another reporter as he entered the room at McKay Center.

Clay Helton said Marques Tuiasosopo will coach quarterbacks and Lenny Vandermade will take over the tight ends. Helton is being extremely animated and fighting his bland image at press conference.

Helton said he wants to be the head coach at USC. “I also know reality of situation. You have to prove yourself.”

Haden tells Helton, “Go beat Notre Dame.”

Pat Haden said he talked “to dozens of people” about Steve Sarkisian during background check. “None raised a concern.”

“The decision I made did not work out and I own that,”

Pat Haden said he did not speak to Sarkisian when he fired him. He could not get ahold of him. Said he called agent many times before finally getting agent and sending letter of termination.

Pat Haden got a little testy with reporter after leaving press conference: “Go talk to Max Nikias. He’s approved everything I’ve done.”

  1. Are you kidding me Pat. Sarkisian reputation was well known at UW and you are saying all the people you talked to in vetting process never mentioned any issues. Pat doesnt really inderstand the issues in being an alcoholic. Not only was Sark reputation known at UW it was obvious in the Pac 12 circles. Pat is terrible. Time to go!

  2. His love for USC is clouding his judgment.! Haden defending himself in big way. Please! The proof is in the results and Nat Championships in some of these sports is not the driver at USC . Its about the football program!

  3. Scott, how many fingers did he utilize when flashed you the “conquest” sign?
    just askin…..

  4. Surprised that there was no mention of his upcoming rotator-cuff surgery…a condition aggravated by the patting of oneself on the back.
In any event, we all wish him a speedy recovery.
For those of you who may have been concerned that my watch could have been in jeopardy during the viewing of the press conference, I am pleased to report that my Timex survived the ordeal. My ‘man cave’ is on the 2nd floor and I extended my watch arm as far above my head as possible during the discourse. The contaminants (which some crudely refer to as BS) were unable to reach the timepiece…although it was ‘touch and go’ for awhile.

I have extended a lunch invitation to Max for a 3-way, but so far he has yet to respond.

  5. Haden claimed he ‘owned’ the Sarkisian hiring and then when pressed later in the Q&A threw it to Korn Ferry and some doctors.

Leave now Haden and take your phony cliaim of ownership which collapsed when you were made to really ‘own’ it.

The guy reeks on entitlement – regretably so do so many that hold the levers of power at USC – West 28th and all that ilk.

  6. Haden needs to smarten up. He should be making the difficult calls before the programs crater. So far, he has shown a lack of judgement in both hires and in waiting too long before terminations. Is success in Men’s Tennis and Water Polo enough? The current Foobar that masquerades as SC Football should be laid at the AD’s door.
