    • I think the only way that would happen is if PC could also be the AD. But now we know Haden’s not going anywhere, so there’s no way Carroll’s coming back. Too bad. I wish they’d fire Haden and bring back Carroll as AD and Head Coach.

  1. Kyle is our man.

For those who says hes not a California type guy. He was born here. He also has 41 kids from California on his roster.

He was the 2008 National Coach of the Year

He has been almost unbeatable in bowl games and is tied with John Robinson (USC/UNLV) for the best bowl winning percentage of any coach in NCAA history with a .889 mark. The two have identical 8-1 bowl records and the NCAA minimum is seven wins.

In 2008 he engineered the best season in Utah football history when the Utes finished 13-0 and routed Alabama–a team that had spent five weeks at No. 1–in the Sugar Bowl. Utah finished the season with a No. 2 AP ranking and Whittingham was recognized as the National Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Paul “Bear” Bryant Awards committee.

He has had four teams finish in the top 25 in his head coaching tenure: No. 2 in 2008 (AP), No. 18 in 2009 (AP), No. 23 in 2010 (Coaches) and No. 21 in 2014 (AP).

Last season, he lead Utah to its best overall (9-4) and conference (5-4) record since joining the Pac-12 in 2011

Whittingham was named to the watch list for the 2014 Dodd Trophy and was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award.

The 2014 Utes beat two top 25 teams and boasted wins over historical football powers Michigan, UCLA, USC and Stanford, which is considered unprecedented in Utah’s history.

Utah concluded its 2014 season with a 45-10 pasting of Colorado State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

In their first season in the Pac-12 Conference in 2011, the Utes were in contention for a berth in the league championship game until the final week of the regular season. They bounced back to beat Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl and finish with an 8-5 record. The 2012 Utes won three of their final five Pac-12 games and the 2013 season included an upset of No. 5 Stanford.

    • Please NO – dont even try that, we definitely do not want that face-cupping beedy eyed chimp as a coach

My money is on Helton to win out and get a legitimate chance

Theres a lot of emotion and sincerity in that man, and that can drive a team to where they should be

      • What is Helton’s golf game look like? That will be the most important thing to Haden.

  2. Here is to Clay Helton and the Trojans doing great for the remainder of the season and that Clay gets the job.

  3. As long as Pat Haden is AD, you can throw all the favorites out the door. Pat Haden knows everything and others know nothing!

  4. The one question I’d like to ask Pat Haden is how come he was just about the ONLY person who though Sark was the right guy for the job when he hired him? Everyone else knew better…

      • No, his search firm didn’t find anything negative…so they CONFIRMED Haden’s decision. The search firm did not choose Sark, Haden did.

        • And you know they found all the negatives that EVERYONE ELSE saw with Big Boozy, but then again, since PH is “not well” himself, what can he say?

      • Retrospect? LOL. Haden was the ONLY guy who wanted Sark, everyone else knew it was a lazy, horrible hire from day one.

        • Like I said , Sark was # 6 on the list. Sumlin was hi on the list, so was Briles and Strong but they didn’t want to leave their schools.

  5. The only reason he hired the search firm and gifted the million bucks was that if it didn’t work out, which it didnt, he could use it as a excuse. He wanted the guy all along. He wanted somebody he could play golf with, he could have a drink with (no pun inteded), he could chill with.

  6. Haden defended himself today by saying picking a head coach is an “inexact science,” so that’s why we ended up with Sark. PLEASE! I’m not a scientist but I was screaming LOUDLY when Sark was hired that he was exactly the wrong guy for the job…and I bet most of you were, too. Haden needs to go!

  7. Another thing everybody keeps talking about going back to Pete carrol tree, kiffin and sarkesuan, why not try to bring back the tree. Would be a great story, would be great for Pete to right the wrong.

  8. Where is Jeff Tedford on this list!! He is the man who made Aaron Rodgers into who he is today!

    • He’s only had 2, 10-win seasons in his life and for the most part only won between 3 and 8 games per year. Moreover, we’re looking mostly for a tough-minded defensive coach right now, not an offensive/QB coach guy.

      • Are you on the search committee??!! How do you know what southern cal is looking for in the next HC? As far as Tedford’s record, Sark had never even sniffed a single 10 win season nor did Kiffin before him! Tedford is right on point as far as what southern cal would hire by past behavior of southern cal.

          • THAI………
            THAI………
            THAAAIII MEXXXXX……….

Answer this homie. When was the last time UCLA finished #6 or in the Top 10?

Leave a message after the beep……………………………..

          • You got me there. But seriously did it really feel like you had a top 10 team? No offense, but you guys were embarrassed by the two best teams in the conference Oregon and Stanford.

          • Tends to happen when you lose to better teams, how do you explain losing to Boston college??

          • So that’s your explanation for losing to BC a 17 pt. dog “weren’t a top team” okay lol..

          • Ok so you think you were deserving of that top 10 ranking after losing to the two best teams on your schedule? Seriously? Okay LOL!

          • Sas: When was the last time UCLA finished top 10?

            Safer: 2014

Sas: But you loss to OR(2) and STA

Safer: yeah good teams, how do you lose to BC?

            Sas: “yeah but”

            #TrojanAF

          • Umm. Last time I checked Stanford and Oregon were the top teams in the Conference and the Country at least when you guys played them they were. How do you explain losing the biggest games in the Mora Era?

          • I don’t know, I guess the STA game to us would be like UCLA to #ClownU just convincingly winning lately, OR was just beating everyone in the conference with Mariotta, still how do you explain BC, GT, WSt, WAS??

          • I guess it doesn’t help not having the same coach pass 29 months… .

            Lane
            ED. O
            Helton
            Sark
            Helton

Lucy you have some splainin to do!

          • Ted’s brain is well…you know. Soft.

But Kiffin, with the leadership ability of a sea squid, winning ten games is a miracle. Also hilarious that ucla has never won more games in their entire putrid history than lame Lane did at USC. It’s a ucla tradition. 10 wins is always their limit.

  9. I bet there are coaches out there that are very successful and talented but aren’t happy where they are but not on this list. They will have their agents contacting SC. I hope Haden is not answering the call.

    • No doubt about it. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the new coach isn’t on any of the lists we’ve seen so far.

  10. Why are we wasting our time speculating on who the best hire is? As long as Haden in involved in the hiring process, we will all be scratching our heads after he hires his next HC. He hasn’t got one right yet [i.e. football and basketball]. I’m speculating but Haden must have something on Nikias otherwise, he should’ve been fired a long time ago.

  11. Darn, them is fightin’ words aimed squarely at you, Wolf. So what’s gonna happen next, Wolfman?

If Leinart disrespects Wolf while dreaming, he better wake up and apologize!

  12. So its safe to assume these odds come from the same place Scott pulls all if his “insights”, right?

    • Jon Gruden knows how to win, has charisma and youthfulness to recruit really well and has the creds to bring in a very top notch staff. If the Trojans could afford him, go for it. He could take what USC has to offer talent-wise and turn it into an NC next year.

      • If Grouchy Gruden goes back to coaching it sure ain’t gonna be at college level… Having to kiss the butts of teenagers, parents and boosters?? Not a chance.

      • For Mr. Jon Gruden, [Any Thing [He] Wants] !

But “keep” Clay Helton (Offensive Coordinator) and “bring” back Clancy Pendergast (Defensive Coordinator) !!

        Then…

Let the good times roll !

        Let’m Roll !!!

        FightOn

    • BAHAHA. Why would he go back to the grind of coaching when he makes the same money announcing 1 day a week?

  13. Bronco Mendenhall 5/1
    Jon Gruden 2/1
    Jack Del Rio 5/1
    Jim Harbaugh 100/1
    Scott Wolf 1000/1

  14. If you are looking for a strong Defensive minded coach, Haden should call Tom Bradley! But I doubt the UCLA DC would take a step down to be HC at southern cal and all it’s dysfunction.

  15. Aren’t those all the same guys who said NO last time? …and Peterson at 9/1? The guy has spurned USC and UCLA every single time…shouldn’t he be 1000000/1…and most of the others as well?

    • Paddy O’Hadden will not hesitate to embarrass himself again by asking Mora….remember he tried to hire Savage right after we won our Natty….turned down flat despite offering 3 times the money…OUCH!!!

      #SlapInDaFace

    • Klemm wasn’t either but #ClownU didn’t hesitate to offer him north of 900k, to only get rejected again!

      #Vetted

  16. None of these guys gets hired as the next HC of USC…. I would bet the field……

  17. “All I am saying, is give Clay a chance, all I am saying, is give Clay a chance…”

    One more time,,,

And find and get Clancy Pendergast before Justin Wilcox destroys it all !

Wilcox has no “clue” at his job !!

Except for giving up points as if he’s rooting for the other team !

Justin Wilcox is the absolute and total “friend” of opposing Quarterbacks, in fact Justin is the “Best Friend” of opposing Quarterbacks, I mean who wouldn’t want to eat lunch, sing a few songs, sign autographs, while in the pocket waiting for a receiver to get open ?

Oh and I forgot, maybe a spot of Tea too ??

    Go Clay Helton and…

    FightOn Trojans !!!!!!
