Discuss The Game

USC finally beats UCLA. And they did it with big plays by the defense and a physical offense. That’s really how they win now by making Cody Kessler’s role simple. Clay Helton is 5-0 when he plays underdogs and 0-2 against favorites. Is that enough to win the job?

      • I doubt that, Golden T. He started as a freshman. I’m sure that was significant in his decision to attend UCLA, as it is for many top HS players in 2015.

However, I’ll bet he wishes he had played better today.

        • No way my man, today was truly a real total beat down and it is on his (Rosen’s): O-line, receivers, coaches, game plan and his poor passes…I’d say he doesn’t like what he sene is incoming the next two – three years for him..

This was even more telling then Pete’s final blowout in 2009 that 50 – 0 loss – this defeat by USC was inflicted with , at best an above average QB, an interim head coach coach, and a mere week since USC was blown out by OR….all is right in the world…just hoping Stanford sends ‘The Princess’ back to her ‘island’ there in northern Indiana so she can stew in her phony relevance….

    • The only problem with your statement was, Rosen and ucla never owned L.A. All ucla did was rent the rose bowl. We all know who the real owner is here in L.A. and that is USC. You even know it.

  1. USC played with heart and desire. They were physical. That’s is Trojan football. Knock them off the ball. Well done coaches and players. Let’s beat the Trees, Indians, Cardinals or whatever they are calling themselves this year.

  2. I’m not ready to hand Helton the job. He’s a candidate but check back next Saturday. Even then, what does the results of a few games tell you about a coach’s ability to build a program over the course of several years?

    • What it tells you is that should Helton defeat both UCLA and Stanford that is the first time since 2007 that si what it tells you…and if Helton should defeat the Big-10 rep in the Rose Bowl what? Toss him for some former SEC sacked coach with that corrupt SEC mind set?

I welcome the next week to see if Helton can figure out what Helfrich and Fitzgeralad did against Stanford and if he fails then ‘tally ho’!

    • I’m not worried about Helton. He will get a good job. I want SC to be SC. This was a great win. A NEEDED win. But SC can do so much better.

  3. This UCLA team did not lose the 50-0. They did not have the revenge factor. Defense won the game who would have guessed. Power running ran out the 4th qtr, who would have guessed. Great game, that’s why we love this rivalry.

  4. Ye of little faith… Who runs Barter Town?!! I told you guys this day was coming and we all deserve to see it arrive. Great gameplan, great effort, great win and I never doubted it. Why don’t all of you Trojan fans/Trojan detractors go ahead and put your Stanford win predictions in now? I know it’s coming. You’ve been doubting the Trojans all year, why stop now? Honestly, if pure homerism isn’t enough to pick your own team to win, what does that say about your analysis? Do you even know what you’re looking at? Obviously not. Ucla wasn’t even close today and you picked them against your own team. Some of you should just let me do your thinking for you because you never miss a chance to be wrong and you would have a better understanding of what’s going on. You know who you are. Choke on your negative predictions for USC. You’re wrong AGAIN. Pac 12 South champs, fools!

    • CR, I will give you credit for calling the game plan correctly, nice job. You didn’t give a score though. Have to admit I based my prediction on what SC had shown the last 3 weeks and what UCLA has done to them the last 3 years, not from watching UCLA, which I could not stand to do. A second shot at Stanford call that game even.

      • I never give a score and always give the gameplan. Had you paid attention, I told you we would win this game, the south and play Stanford for the championship months ago. Thanks for the credit, but as you see I’m busy giving it to myself. And it’s well-deserved!

          • I like our chances against Stanford but who knows – today was a great victory esp. that final touchdown – driving the field with our run game and then BOOM a pass to depth charge Mora and his minions.

        • You never give a score? Pobrecito.
          Why not? Grow a pair…take a chance.
I will. If queried, I will tell you the exact score of the USC-Stanford game, long before the opening kick-off.. coin-flip… or any other type of prognostication.

    • You really know how to win friends and influence people. Beauty of humanity is that we all think differently. I believe we are all happy USC won, so get over yourself and lets enjoy the win, huh?

      • I can’t get over myself, Steve-o. I’ve been right every step of the way and took heat beforehand for it every step of the way. I could repost everything I said earlier this year and it all holds up. It feels good to have kept faith and had it rewarded. We all enjoy it, but it’s sweeter for me. I’m truly sorry you wouldn’t understand.

        • I appreciate your humble attitude. All the awards you win in your prognostications are surely well deserved. Eventually you will come down to same level as the rest of us, until then enjoy the heights of fame and fortune. Its so much more fun to win, especially this game.

          • Steve, I was attacked out of the blue for the knowledge I was putting out there. So, yeah I’m gonna crow a bit and some loudmouth people should be eating crow now. They are getting free delivery and I won’t accept tips.

          • The people who chose to attack me remember well. I’m sorry your “comments into the void” are as meaningless as you describe, but I understand.

  5. If he is the best guy available, then he should be hired. But if they go out there and really push hard to get a great coach and not just make up their mind that he is the one that they want, like they did with Sark, there will be a lot of better coaches available. They should go for the best guy.

    • Hopefully it tones down the nattering nabobs of negativity in our own midst. The bruin praising, self loathing, faithless apostates who call themselves Trojan fans.

      • I don’t care if Trojans fans can post their frustrations and all with each other. I don’t like the TROLLS. Anyway, let’s see who shows up first out of them all.

        • It’s worse than frustrations. They take a page out of Wolf’s book by being negative for attention. Either that or they don’t know what they’re talking about.

          • He’s the perfect example. According to Fred we weren’t going to accomplish anything this year. You saw him come back out of the woodwork when we lost to Oregon. He’s Wolf junior.

  6. Both of these teams were inconsistent all season. Need to beat Stanford. The pac 12 South has been disappointing at best this year. Competitive but just good teams not any great ones.

  7. Great game by the Trojans. I was completely wrong about how I thought this game would turn out. For the players it is amazing to see what happens when you play hard on every snap. For Coach Helton, a great game plan and a great week of preparation, especially after last week.

  8. HEY CHARLIE, HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR YOUR TO COME UP WITH EXCUSES AND UNFUNNY JOKES? HEY “UCLA RUNS L.A.” HOW DOES IT FEEL KNOWING THE VICTORY BELL IS BACK WHERE IT BELONGS? ITS OKAY. NOTHING YOU CAN SAY CAN TAKE AWAY THE FACT THAT WE PREVENTED YOU FROM BECOMING PAC 12 SOUTH CHAMPS AND IN DOING SO BECAME PAC 12 SOUTH CHAMPS OURSELVES. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    • How old are you? Twelve?
Knock off the all-caps. It is difficult to read and exudes adolescent rudeness. BTW, 86 the HaHAs. They remove any & all doubt regarding your immaturity. Perhaps a trade can be engineered here. We will exchange you for another Fruin Troll. Trust me, they will get the dirty end of the stick.
      Interesting poster name that…’Bend Over’????

      • IT WOULDN’T BE NECESSARY IF I WASN’T LAUGHING THAT MUCH, BUT I WAS. THE CAPS, REPRESENT THE INTENSITY AND EXCITEMENT TO MY EMOTIONS WHICH HAVE CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. YOU’D TRADE ME, FOR ONE OF THE ENEMY?HAHA IM RUBBING SALT, AND AS MUCH AS YOU WANT TO MAKE THIS AN ISSUE OF “CLASS” …..THIS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT PATHETIC BRUINS HAVE SAID IN THE PAST, SO GROW A PAIR, AND FIGHT THE FUCK ON.

  9. A great victory by Troy even with Kessler at the helm although in fairness that last touchdown – the unexpected pass – was brilliant by Helton and completely took the Bruins down immediately.

    Two things:

    1. If Helton defeats Stanford and MI St. or IA in the Rose Bowl how he could he not be the new HC?
    2. Mora’s claim of his consecutive 10 wins season is over and his game plan was was dead after the Bruins took the lead @ 21 – 20.

  10. Clay Helton has as many Pac 12 South Championships as Jim L Mora (formerly Jim Mora Junior).

USC is on the rise. Mique Juarez will be a lock. SC will hit a home run with the coaching search. The future belongs to USC.

    • Yeah but what happens if he squares the circle and takes down Stanford and the Big-10 runner up or champ (assuming Big 10 gets shut out of the CFB)?

Look I understand the apprehension in hiring an interim coach as the new HC but bluntly head coaches chosen the past two times (Kiffin and esp. Sarkisian) were average at best and I don’t see, unless Jon Gruden is in-bound, anyone getting ready or being prepared to face AL next September in Dallas…let’s see how this plays out before we encourage Haden to double his frank ineptitude again and far more impacting a second time – five years is a long time even with a buyout unless we want to go through what Notre Dame did from 2002 – 2010

        • ‘If’ Helton defeats Stanford and the Big-10 rep in the Rose Bowl well then it’s on Haden i.e. his ‘Hamlet’ moment and frankly I dont think he has the cajones to i.e. this is ‘public’ and a ‘record’ – the last thing Haden wants on his obit is a 0 – 2 for HC at USC…for me again if Helton wins out he should be the new coach

          • Yes old stick we shall and for this evening let us bask in the deserved attention and respect that is our legacy i.e. the ‘public school’ knows its place especially as Bel Air is their address…..

          • That would somewhat make sense … but you have to look long term Clay Kiffin is very very small time and most the time USC has played like garbage under him

        • I won’t disagree with that I just am hoping that Helton has something other than what Sarkisian ‘planned’ in mid-September.

Stanford wins on TOP and Notre Dame should not have permitted that amazing finish – then again ‘The Princess’ always gets a ‘reason’ why they ‘lost’ – just pleased they did and they’re still in that wilderness for the past 27 years.

  11. USC went out with a fire and passion that has been missing all season. This was the best all around game this year. The offense ran, then it opened the pass. Defense created turnovers that put the offense in good field position. Special teams performed very well today also. The much maligned OL did a number on the bruins, not perfect but their best showing yet. DL was a monster today, and the linebacker play was very good. I thought Jackson was quite comfortable at safety, even made a tackle or two. The man to man coverage blew the bruins away, they were in no way able to use their usual reads and it changed the game when Rosen couldn’t figure it out.
Coaching was not an issue, some dumb play calls, a few penalties we could have done without. I believe Helton is not the guy, he is good, but it is time for great. I know everyone thinks if he wins out it would be his, but I disagree. He is not the PROVEN HC USC needs to come in and rebuild the greatness that is USC football.

    • I agree. However, getting an exceptionally talented coach is not infrequently a matter of timing, and there is almost always a crapshoot element in play.

I don’t think Haden should repeat his error of the past–forego an incumbent who has led the team to some success, AND would NOT require a long-term commitment, and instead hire someone who hasn’t shown REALLY exceptional talent on his resume.

      Do you disagree?

      • If Helton is the best available I would have to bow to that. But if there is a top flight HC willing and able, then we should go that way. I am not talking Miles, or Wanstadt, Herman, or any of the other 1st year wonders. You have read enough of my posts to know what I mean the last few weeks to know what I am talking about.

You’re not done getting pounded this year, bruins. Now, put that mangy, flea ridden tail between your legs and step the F off.

Also, Ucla is scared of Stanford and both teams know it. Vanderdoes and Jack are generational players for Ucla and they are now soft in the middle like a Twinkie. We’ll work the middle just like Stanford will. They just had 350 yards run up on them. That’s the team and coach you’re praising for toughness? What tough team gets pounded on the ground like that? Don’t believe the blue hype, it’s a sequel. Like a Twinkie they are.

    • Right here, Ray and not making comments about your player’s noses.
You are now 1 and 3 in the Mora era and we look forward to our next meeting with Rosen a year more experienced and Eddie Vanderdoes etal. In the meantime, feel free to make fun as much as you want, you have earned the right for a year. I would, however, suggest you watch the comments about a players physical characteristics (assuming you even have the ability to avoid them). Some may think them to be racist and that has no place, even on a SoCal blog.
Congratulations on what is probably your last victory in men’s sports vs UCLA this year.

      • Hey lunchie…time for your vaunted 8 clap…

        clap clap clap clap

        U clap clap clap
        Clowns clap clap clap clap
        Lost clap clap clap clap
        Again clap clap clap clap

U Clowns Lost A- gain gain gain gain!

      • Last victory? Your storied BB program looks like crap this year. We will win at least one against your squad. I am sure u are counting on a big win in girls softball.

      • LOL. You talk crap when you think SC is “yesterday U,” yet you now are being your version of “yesterday U.”

Yes. None of our many loses are in the south division. We’re 1-0 in the south after beating ASU and our 2 conference loses are to north division teams. Win the south and you play for a Pac 12 title. Win the Pac 12 title and you play in the Rose Bowl.

  15. I would love to say I called it but I didn’t. I would love to blame Justin Wilcox for Ucla’s scoring but I can’t. In fact the refs blew it on a couple of scores. But otherwise the defense looked better today than it has in a while.
I’m happy (read ecstatic) with score and hope Helton has more magic in his play book so we can grab the roses.
Side comment my silly smart phone kept wanting to say grab the rosés- must have learned spelling from Sarkisian

Ucla is the Clippers and they’ll both fall short again this year.
The hype around Ucla and Mora is ridiculous. Even some long time ‘SC fans have bought into it. It seems some of them are close to having a Caitlynesque, late-in-life transition and slide into something powder blue. For shame…

The point that I don’t agree with is that USC is not tough enough to win the south or the Pac 12. I disagree with that and I’m sorry so many fans are buying into that. I’m not saying they are super tough, magical or have the best coaching staff. They have enough to win the south and the Pac 12. Oregon would not have dominated the Pac 12 if it just came down to toughness. I like our chances as much as anyone in the conference. Obviously you think Ucla is the pick, but I think it’s still the Trojans. We’ll see…

There’s no switch to flip there’s just growth over the course of the season. I believe in the journey the team takes over the course of a year and the growth that happens. I wouldn’t trade rosters with any Pac 12 team, would you? There’s a reason why we’re the favorite to win the Pac 12 and it’s not because we’re the toughest team. The toughest team in America is probably someone like k-state or Northwestern, but they aren’t the best teams. they won’t be the winningest either, but they are tough as nails. I wouldn’t trade with them, would you? We don’t need to push everyone around we just need to outplay them.

I see things happening differently in the conference. I still think either Stan or Ore comes out of the north. I think it’s quite possible we see Stanford again this year.

  20. First, my congratulations to the fine student athletes at SoCal. They have overcome the shackles of incompetent Athletic Department management, poor coaching (prior to Helton) and more drama than a bad Soap Opera. They have now earned a spot in the Pac 12 Final and control their destiny. For the players sake, I only hope they don’t have to endure yet another bad A.D. coach selection. Beware the mind of a 60+ year old because they are more concerned with their legacy than the future of their team.
    See you bozos next year.

Utah is closer to Stanford too and they’ll be tough for Ucla. Let’s not bury Ore yet like everyone tried to bury Stanford after NW. I think that QB can help them when his finger heals.

Nobody has the ceiling to grow like USC does either.

    • Nobody’s happier than me to see this mystery Trojan team show up today. Winner, winner chicken dinner. Sure beats the hapless non-growth Eugene version we all saw last week.

Rivalry games are always susceptible to wild outcomes and it surely helped that outmatched Sark was shipped off to rehab. We could have been stuck with that guy all year. Thank God USC was spared his continued influence.

      • I accept that, but it’s no mystery team. Ucla was a good matchup for us with the middle of their defense missing. Mobile QB’s with options are never a good matchup for us. We’re actually lucky to be playing Stanford and not Oregon in the championship game.

Ye of little faith… Once again I find Trojan fans taking Ucla’s side and this time against our own dear Trojans. According to some of you earlier in the season, SC wouldn’t even be in this position this time of year. Remember? I have several thoughts as to why you’re wrong again, but for now, consider what happens if Ucla did win. Does anyone on God’s green earth want to see Ucla play Stanford again? You know who least wants to see Ucla play Stanford again? Ucla. If they won Saturday, they know what would happen in the next game. They KNOW what would happen in the next game and they don’t want any part of that. The bruin fans are coming in here running their yaps, but what they aren’t talking about is what will happen if they do win Saturday and play Stanford again. I mean… rivalry be dam*ed, wouldn’t we all be embarrassed for them and feel kind of funny at that point? Those are bed wetting fears for bruin children and adults alike. List what we do Saturday as a mercy killing/suicide by Trojan. Two teams enter one team leaves…

I know coach Helton is going to dip into the bag of tricks tomorrow, but I’d rather see him run right at these guys. Ucla is fit for a pounding and we should be set on playing bully tomorrow. Ground and pound is the winning formula. Take the game away from Cody and don’t rely on the O-line’s “ability” to pass block. You gotta Stanford ucla this week and Oregon Stanford next week. I predicted this game and win long ago and we start to salvage a season tomorrow.

Give us more valuable insights oh Guru.
Best wishes for a positive outcome from your upcoming rotator cuff surgery. Patting oneself on the back do take its toll on occasion.

      • Ha ha, I’ll be ok. I feel redeemed and vindicated by this Pac 12 South Championship and I make no apologies. I will give you more valuable insights, but people think they know better.

    • Owns told me he would seee on this thread after the game. I’m sure he’s just running late.

    • Chuckie’s mom locked the basement door and he won’t make it to McD’s to use the free Internet.

Owen fell off the wagon after the humiliating loss and can be found in skid row.

GueyToy is preoccupied at the local Guey bar.

      • Glad to see you Helen. Hopefully this win shuts the TROLLS up for awhile. Excellent win, and it wasn’t even that close. SC handled the bRUINS on the line big time! The way it should be.

    • Give Owns and Chuck and the rest a break. You know they give us SC fans a break…..Oh wait….Nah….F them! Hehehe!

  26. What do you mean “finally?” The only years in the past 14 that USC didn’t beat ucla is during the heavy sanctioned years (which we now know USC did not deserve). The last game before the sanctions was 2011 and USC beat them 50-0. Now, post sanctions, USC is back to beating up on the Bruins.

    • 3 years is a long time to be losing to those guys. I’m happy to have beaten them soundly for a change.

    • Mora is 3-1 vs. the Trojans. UCLA got their hats handed to them today, no excuses. Your ‘sanctions’ excuse, however, is weak and tired. SC was preseason #1 in ’12 and UCLA cleaned their clock. Favored two years ago, same result. Better SC recruiting classes last three years–still Mora 3-1. Two terrible coaching hires is what has caused SC to stumble the past four years.

Congratulations on the win. Good luck vs Stanford–no team in the nation is playing at their level. No excuses–win classy or lose graciously.

      • The wins during the sanctions will always have an asterisk. Hearing the bRuins attempt to make the case otherwise is indeed very tired. If the bRuins were the only underdog to win a game those years, you might have something, but you don’t. SC was overrated and beaten handily by many lower ranked teams they were favored against. Time to face the music, bRuin fans. You beat a disadvantaged team on sanctions, and that is the extent of the congratulations you deserve for those wins.

        • I stand by my statement that the talent, #1 preseason rating, top level recruiting classes all being underdeveloped and underachieved was due to weak coaching on SC’s part. So, I respectfully disagree. In any event, the proof is what SC does now, without being saddled by the ridiculous sanctions, which were overkill. Been nearly a decade since SC won the conference–will see if you can handle a Stanford team that is playing the best football in the FBS right now. That would be a good step in the right direction in beginning to re-establish USC as a football power again.

          • The #1 preseason ranking in ’12 was deserved. After beating #4 Oregon and stomping UCLA 50-0, they looked unstoppable. Clearly the lack of scholarships caught up to them in 2012– along with the Kiffin factor. But using the #1 ranking as support for your argument is laughable– they were ranked #18 in ’12 (finished unranked), #23, and #19 when UCLA won. UCLA was #17, #22, and #9! The recruiting classes were talented, but also very small and lacked the addition of depth to key positions. You are being willfully ignorant of some very key details while attempting to pat yourself on the back here.

You beat a heavily sanctioned, disadvantaged, team. That’s it.

SC was the beneficiary of some very timely and uncharacteristic turnovers this year, which dramatically affected the outcome of the game– I will give you that. But you guys really need to stop tooting your horns like the ’12-’14 wins were some sort of accomplishment. NOW we will see what these Mora teams are really made of.

          • You make some good points–not arguing that sanctions didn’t hurt SC (looks like I didn’t clarify very well above). My MAIN point is that even with sanctions, with a competent coach, the Trojans would have done much better dice PC left, instead of being in the position they are now. But believe me, I’ll be the last person to be tooting UCLA’s horn over the past three years. Bruins have under-delivered. No argument here. That’s a separate conversation in terms of the state of UCLA’s program, which I have all the time with certain decent posters here and in Wang’s blog. Good luck against the Cardinal

  27. Dear Pat Haden,

I know you read this blog on an hourly basis. Pretty please with sugar on top, hire Les Miles tonite.

  28. It’s awesome to finally get that blue monkey off our backs and I just hope folks aren’t satisfied. Hogan is not going to play the perfect game against us that he played last time. The Pac 12 Championship is doable for us, but we need a different gameplan than the one we used today. I’m not a Helton guy, but he is tailoring his gameplans to his opponents beautifully. Big win today, but let’s hope the guys are still hungry.

      • We’re not going to win a time of possession game against Stanford. That’s not the right way to approach Stanford.

        • You think Oregon style, score fast and often? If we get out ahead and control the ball. Stanford has trouble scoring fast.

          • We’re not going to be able to ground and pound Stanford. That’s a losing proposition.

          • Well then my friend we lose because Stanford is strictly ground control and that means we have to rely on Kessler’s inability to get under center and not throw deep.

          • Notre Dame just scored and if you look at the statistics their running game was almost three times that of Stanford – Stanford is down losing this game against the Irish – advantage Troy a week hence and also a game plan for Helton to study and use.

          • Bro, ND is a more physical team than we are. They can afford to play Mano a mano with Stanford, we can’t. Teams are not interchangeable like that.

          • We lost to OR which is a finesse team that also finessed Stanford – we don’t have finesse – we have an above average qb and we seem to have an emerging running game – my frfiend think what you like, I don’t see any gain from Kessler save that he was on the winning side today – defense, special teams and the running game won today’s game.

          • We can’t run the ball against Stanford like we did against Ucla Period. It’s foolish to even try. We’d be playing right into their hands. I guarantee you that we’ll employ a different gameplan against Stanford and rightly so. We have a much better chance of winning a track meet against Stanford than a slugfest and I’m sure we’ll plan accordingly.

          • Opps Notre Dame lost after all well all the national posters are hailing Stanford’s possibility of getting back in the CFB picture – let’s see how Helton prepares for this week’s match up unlike the way Sarkisian did.

            Enjoy the repartee

          • Tonight we did what Stanford does to ucla. Next week we have to do what Oregon does to Stanford.

          • Definitely. We aren’t going to win a slugfest with them. We have to keep them in comeback mode by getting ahead and being opportunistic on defense. Wilcox needs to stay as aggressive as he was today and Helton has to open it up and get our athletes in space.

          • I would take the exact same defensive approach and mindset against Stanford. Hogan played the game of his life last time. If we stay aggressive against them he’ll throw it to us and/or fumble it away. Nice to see Wilcox wake up.

        • Uh excuse me but yeah I believe time of possession is especially if we replicate our running attack that we used against UCLA – TOP is what Stanford has used under Shaw to great success – the O line love the fact the yards are getting made and the D line can’;t wait to counter Stanford’s offense.

          • We’re playing a different team next week than we did tonight. Stanford leads the country in time of possession and we shouldn’t be trying to beat them at their own game. We have to be flexible in this conference because it’s not one size fits all.

          • Yeah then again we all watched what MI St. did last year to Stanford in the Rose Bowl – they knew the offense was the same on each down in that critical 4th quarter series which decided the game.

If you honestly believe Cody Kessler can produce points all one has to see is the special teams, defensive LB’s (ints) and running game (save for the last pass producing the final TD) in today’s game. No one expected that and that’s because Kessler is an above average qb and he showed it in the 2nd half.

TOP is the key along with a great running plan.

          • Check Oregon’s TOP against Stanford. We can’t win running the ball into the line of scrimmage. We’re going to have to throw more against Stanford than we did against Ucla to win. I can’t believe people are still arguing with me…

          • Well good luck with Kessler – his 2nd half today, save for the final unexpected toss for the last td, was ‘nothing’ and the radio announcers were bunt in stating such as the TV announcers a bit more subdued – special teams and defense won today;s game not the qb.

  29. Wow Scott, way to be a dack. I honestly didn’t expect him to be that way to players. #buzzkill

  30. GREAT WIN TODAY!
SC put together an all around team effort and reclaimed Los Angeles. The hour and a half wait to find parking was well worth it. The defense made plays when it had to and really stepped it up today, the offense physically ran through the “Bruins 8 in the box” to dominate the 2nd half, and the freshman really rose (no pun intended) to the occasion.

    Great day at the Coliseum!
Great day to be a Trojan!
    WE ARE!!! SC!!!

    • congrats on a great win. Wilcox outfoxed Mora and Helton stayed with the run like a boss.

Rosen looked like the true Freshman he is today, most of his mistakes came from trying to do too much.

i was at the game as the guest of a Trojan–have to say the fans were classy this day.

      #SCisChampOfLA

    • Yes USC found its identity, the way they always used to play when they were successful: the power run game and slow things down so our D isn’t out there all day getting exhausted. Classic Trojan football. I’d even like to go back to huddles. The cute finesse, quick strike stuff is for the birds (as in Ducks) haha

      • Well said. Yep. Run the ball, and run it again until they can stop you. Time of possession and keeping the defense off the field too long was key. An I agree with on huddles. I like to slow the pace of our offense a little more.

        • It works for Stanford, though with our talent pool down here, the Cardinal should be the poor man’s SC.

          • And I hate how Stanford can barely sell out a stadium with only 55,000 seats….
And Kessler has 2 wins against Stanford and Hogan…

          • We are sophiscated, unlike the vermin and feeble USCK crowds…. You are worthless and weak… Phony team with phony fake fans….

            Standord > usc

          • A Stanford fan are ya? Fake fans huh? I’m sorry that your program waited over 90some years to win a meaningful game. Congratulations to the Stanford program, they finally get to eat dinner at the adult table. But USC are the Kings of the West. It’s like a law or something, it might even be in the good book.

      • That would be like saying that Bush won the Heisman or PC won those Nattys, and that accomplishments earned on the field actually happened and are meaningful.
How very un-NCAA biased of them.

  31. Everyone seems to want Clay Helton as the permanent coach , but whats going to happen when he loses his next gams? Helton is a pass happy coach, who appeared to have been talked into running the ball as much as he did.

  32. I like how everyone has already moved the bar on Helton, before there is any indication that ANY so-called “big name” coach would want a job where the last two coaches were dismissed mid-season in ways that set back their personal and coaching reputations significantly.

Now, quoting Fukuzaki on 7… “How do you get rid of Helton if he wins the Pac-12 Championship and the Rose Bowl?”

Silliness. The reason to keep Helton is continuity. With another coach, next year’s seniors will have had at least 5 head coaches, 6 if you count Helton’s two interim stints, and probably 7 if the Trojans lose any early games where they are favorites.

Sign Helton to a 1-year contract after the Stanford game. Let him coach out 2016 unless he’s caught with a dead girl or a live boy. Evaluate things after next year’s bowl game.

  33. I’m scrolling through these comments, and WHERE ARE THE TROLLS? Its a good online day when the TROLLS are gone.

  34. As a Stanford fan, I think it’s pretty pathetic that USCK thinks they are all that tonight considering they beat a lowly ucla team. Considering USCK is as lowly team as well, it doesn’t matter who your head coach is because your team next year will be weak and worthless. We are going to slam you back into obscurity making you wish you still had them NCAA sanctioned teams. Stanford 45 – USCK 0.

    • Now a Stanford troll? Go away tree. We are enjoying our victory over the baby bears. Let us do that. Don’t go away mad, just go away.

      • I’ve always been Standord fan… I wanted USCK to win so that we could slap USCK around…again!! Ahahaha!!

Your USCK celebration will turn to tears, again….

          • Ray, stay in your ghetto school and be sure you lock your doors at night! Your school is in the ugly part of LA. ! Hahahahhaa!!! Stanford > usck

  35. I know that everyone likes Clay Helton but you still have to get the best guy available. What if Bob Stoops wants the job or Gary Patterson or even the guy from Oklahoma State? Do you still go with Clay Helton over all these proven winners? What I hope is that they don’t set their minds on any one guy without seriously seeing what is out there and who is interested? That’s exactly what they did with Sark. They didn’t really look too hard for anyone else because they had their mind set on Sark.

  36. Cool, cool story, Yolo! Rogers (and company) played their hearts out. All they have to do is duplicate that performance next Saturday and USC is back in the Rose Bowl (although I hope Helton tells them they’re going to have to play MUCH harder — just to keep them hungry and motivated)!
We should meet at Fabiani’s at 2pm, but we’re probably better off heading back to my place [where my wife is already planning an Italian feast]. We’re in the new Hokulani Golf Villas with a great view of the ocean.
    Yeah, Fight the F On!!

  37. Our game plan was what people have been saying everywhere. Maybe it just took some time.

Vs UCLA we ran and ran with some imagination.

We started to use the RBs and TEs to block more and leak out for passes.

    We threw to more receivers.

The injuries to Juju forced us to be a better team.

Not to mention on defense we played a lot of man and had line games going on for once. The technique for the CBs wasn’t perfect but we masked that by putting Adoree and Biggee in situations where they would not be exposed for less than terrific trail coverage technique while using their athleticism.

It was all the things that we’ve been asking for here and on every board. Fixing what Sark did took some time but I will give it to our new coach for now. Two more games to see if it’s a trend.

  38. I’ll do all the advance work, old bud —but, no worries –if they can’t promise to turn the restaurant over to their friendly, neighborhood Trojans—we head back to Villa Guarino to watch the game –our house is less than a 5 minute drive from Fabiani’s.
[Ain’t it great that Scottie has created this whole blog just for firming up our Pac 12 Conference Championship plans? Whoever said he’s not all heart?].
