USC-Stanford On Roll!

JUJU.OREGONSo the Pac-12 title game is two teams on an emotional high, as the Cardinal beat Notre Dame at the buzzer, 38-36. Or, to put it another way, two teams that lost to Oregon are playing for the Pac-12 title.

    • USC has the advantage on this, because of the simple formula that a last second come from behind field goal win vs. a nationally ranked rival favored to win is much more exhilirating than a blowout dominating victory over a pretty equal rival, PLUS Stanford already thinks they dominated SC at the coliseum this season, so Stanford’s win in the championship game is all but certain. I just hope Stanford brings their Money Tree mascot– I love that outfit.

  1. SW, you are a piece of work. I guarantee that no other professional reporter looks at the world in such a cynical way. Yes, they both lost to Oregon, but both won their divisions while Oregon did not. Oregon very well may be a better team, but they wil not be at the Championship game. The season is a long grind, and each game counts, not just the head to heads. Your inability to acknowledge any achievement without lacing it with a bit of your own brand of pervasive negativity is nothing short of astounding. You are a petty, bitter, little man.

  2. Scott, usually I defend you…But come on, why do you have to make this negative? Seriously dude!

  3. Oregon is the best team in the Pac-12, but this is the argument against jabronie pretenders like Iowa, Clemson and Oklahoma. Teams that win a bunch of games against nobodies that stink and then go down in flames when they play a real team. Confused? You won’t be.

    • Stanford lost to Oregon because of 2 fumbled snaps … in a very good game , ND and Stanford was played at a high level.
Helton’s heroes have played like crap in all but a lucky quarter vs a turnover frosh qb.
Did anyone read Plaschkes garbage in the LA rag ,… embarrassing really, he wants Clay Kiffin

  4. Well we played a lot better than i thought we would and got the win. but is it good enough to beat Stanford??

    • It IS good enough, Pete —but Helton is gonna have to motivate the hell out of our guys to get them to play at that level for two weeks in a row. [Remember, we were leading Stanford something like 21 to 10 before they started coming back and Sark panicked].

  5. It was the perfect college football Saturday.

USC humiliates do-nothing ucla. Stanford beats ND with no time left.

  6. On Roll… Is that a Borat outtake? Where is the Oregon goes 2 & 3 in 28 days headline? Probably somewhere behind a type-o that ignores the fact that they lost by 42 to Utah. Great Success!

  7. It’s not a Wolfy blog post unless there is the obligatory negative poke at the end. It’s almost as predictable as the sun rises in the East, the Pope being Catholic, death and taxes.

  8. Now we know Stanford and Notre Dame are extremely even, and we’ve lost pretty narrowly to both of them before we got physical and went back to our roots of physical football. I think Stanford is more beatable for us now than the first time around, barring the effects of injuries on key players, such ad JuJu Smith-Schuster. My guess is it’s going to be a great game next Saturday with two physical teams going head-to-head. Of course, we better out-physical them.

  9. that’s the WOLFMAN the Cadre will go into a dark alley with Tyson for!!!!

finding a way to stick a THUMB into the trOXans……EYE after a big win!!

wolfman, i though the CADRE were the most ruthless vato locos in TOWN—i stand CORRECTED!!!

  10. SW: USC had enough talent to go undefeated. They need Stoops as next head coach. Or Brian Kelly. Or Jim Mora.

    • I think you’re overestimating the talent. There will not be 8 draftees in 2016 with 4 in the first four rounds. That’s the real top end, and USC is not there.

USC’s roster is not consistent across all positions, and too many of the players lack experience. After four classes somewhat similar to that of 2015, let’s talk.

Which is not to say that Stoops and Kelly aren’t good coaches, or that Mora hasn’t done a good job.

Personally, I’d prefer Chip Kelly to those three. More innovative, forward-thinking, football-obsessed, etc.

Or, if USC hires a Superbowl winning coach (some rumors–probably BS), who genuinely WANTS to coach CFB (somewhat surprising), then Great! If the desire is real, I’m sure the know-how is more than satisfactory.

But timing is everything when you’re seeking a really top coach. Better Helton on a short contract than a botched reach, like last time. And if Helton then changes up the staff and over-delivers, good for him.

  11. I really like the fact that system works and both division winners will meet to decide the league’s champion

  12. I think what Wolf is trying to say so eloquently say is, it’s never as good as it feels, and it’s never as bad as it seems. Can’t get too emotionally high after beating BOOCLA to a bloody 3 possession pulp. We still have to face a team that kicked our butts earlier in the season next Saturday, at what basically is a home game for them. On to the Furd and FIGHT THE F*** ON!!!!!

  13. Let’s see: Wolfy picks UCLA to win 41-34 and has to make up for it by claimimg Oregon is the better team using the transitive property rule.

Here’s a math rule for u Wolfy. See if u can understand it:
Gary Klein > Jack Wang > Scott Wolf.

    • I think here’s where Scottie went off the beam, tigerbalm2010—-you can never use the transitive property rule to weasel out of a bad bet (footnote #139 of The Principles of Mathematics by the Unsung Mathematician).

  14. I can’t wait for Stanford to get their hands on this disaster of a team. USCK looked horrible against a weak ucla team…and the only way USCK won was because of their errors, and not your great skill. we Stanford fans can’t wait until we can slam you down again!!!! Bring it Troy boys!!!! Hahahaha Stanford 45- USCK 0.

    • Sure there is, RR! At the coliseum it’s used to signal the end of football games and to warn downtown L.A. of tidal waves.

        • If you ever hear that buzzer on a weekday, RR, your mission, should you accept it, is to (1) drive over to Scottie’s and puncture his tires, (2) head toward San Bernardino County at 105 mph (don’t worry —the freeways will not be crowded —only a select few know about the dual purpose of the coliseum’s multi billion dollar buzzer system).

  15. Scott, you put that so elequantly…

yes, Ducks beat them both – in back to back games no less, and if Vernon Adams did not get hurt, Ducks may have made it back into the playoffs again

but Ducks are out — I would say Stanford snuck in the cheap way by Washington state missing a routine field goal against them — but that’s football and thats how it goes

    I think USC/Stanford will be a good game…

Stanford is better coached, but USC has some really good defensive players

I also think both teams have players who will play hard and soak up the game — and not be down about missing the playoffs

i predict the game will be decided on the last posession
