USC-UCLA Post-Game Thoughts

Here’s what I thought after the game with fellow Daily News writer Jack Wang, and some of you will probably disagree when I start off talking about how I didn’t think USC played that great a game.

  1. Thank you SW & JW, until I heard your unique insights I did not realize UCLA was the only team on the field. I thought I saw SC make plays, make adjustments, cause mistakes and take advantage of those mistakes. But you have clearly shown that UCLA was victim of a self inflicted loss and SC was merely a bystander. And I now must admit SC never wins, the other team loses. I can sleep better tonight now that the world has been explained to me.

    • Ah, but your education is far from over, Trojan5 —Scottie has still to explain how Joe Montana, Muhammad Ali and Roger Federer were all lucky enough to just be in the right place at the right time, and how all their victories were really only a function of their opponents’ mistakes….and how, ultimately, there really is no such thing as heroes or victory.

  2. Well Wolf, you tell it like you see it, and that’s cool. Not everyone agrees with that and that’s cool too. Thank you for this blog and keeping it going. We all have our opinions. FIGHT ON buddy!

    • Ray, he is a reporter, and if he expects his criticisms to be respected & accepted he owes it to everyone to acknowledge both sides of the story . He doesn’t have the luxury of sitting on a virtual barstool and spew nonsensical jibberish that don’t even come close to the reality of what happened in today’s game. He has screamed for two years that SC doesn’t adjust, doesn’t run, & doesn’t do this & doesn’t do that. And when they do, he has a professional obligation to say so. He can’t just ignore the facts, because he doesn’t like them. He is not a fan; he is supposed to be a professional.

  3. That was the worst game analysis I have ever heard/read. Totally biased “UCLA played poorly and not that USC played well” – really? What game were you two knuckleheads watching? Do you guys know anything about football?

    • SC scored on offense, defense & special teams, held the ball for 40 minutes and was +3 in turnovers, but it wasn’t a dominating performance. UCLA hasn’t beaten an SC team with a full roster since ’06 and Jim Mora has never beaten Stanford or Oregon.

      • That’s why Scottie’s comment that Mora wins the “big games” was laughable. The tide has turned. We are back to normal (on top).

    • All the trolls and Scotty are searching for some type of spin to make sense of the beat down.

  4. Who are you trying to kid Wolf? Pete never gave you the time of day. That’s why you still have such a hard on for him.

  5. USCK is going to get thrashed by Stanford, again. This worthless team looked weak and only scored on mistakes, not on great play. Kessler is no match for Hogan.

      • Idiot, USC forced those mistakes with aggressive play. It isn’t even that USC played so well it is that ucla sucks.

        • USCK scored an interception where the defender was holding the receiver and a qb who dropped the ball… USCK and their pathetic fans still don’t get it….. Your team is worthless… Standord will slam your feeble team!!!

          • If SC is worthless with 40 points, what does that make SUCLA with 21 points?–

Pitiful, despicable, contemptible, spiritless, soulless, trash and garbage all come to mind

      • Wasn’t it Custer who said, “Je*us Ch*ist, look at all those f***in’ indians!”.
Well, not next Sat. Our revered Pac 12 officials have been instructed to throw the flag when there are too many of one team on the field of play.

      • You will be chopped and slammed to the ground…. with that worthless team!! Remember: Hogan > Kessler.

      • We slam your pathetic team as well. Those wimpy boys of troy are gonna get a beat down, again… “Fight On???” Please. Wimps!!!!

  6. That video was of two idiots breaking down the game.

Here’s the reality: USC football has eclipsed UCLA completely, and it appears that it will stay that way for a long time. UCLA was outmatched in this game. SC is going to take every recruit that UCLA thinks they can get (yet again). Whoever USC hires is going to be a huge success.

The Bruin Revolution died with a whimper. Even before then it was in hiatus.

  7. A ucla buddy of mine told me about Bruin Nation – a ucla blog. If you want have some real laughs go over there for a couple of minutes. They are in an uproar over the little gutty loss. Everyone from the Chancellor on down should be summarily canned. Sounds like Germany in 1933. Fascists in Westwood. Truly amusing.

  8. Some day Scott you’ll find yourself ‘replaced’ by someone else – all of us do. In your case though, upon being released, who are your peers? Who will speak to you? Jack Wang? Petros Papadakis? Wayne Cook?

What goes around comes around and in your case your agenda driven ‘reporting’ is ‘opinion’ – columnists are lousy reporters because they don’t report facts they twist them to fit their own desired outcome.

    You’re a fool Scott

  9. This was a great win. And since I’ve been coming to this blog, we have lost to UGLY in football. It has changed. FIGHT ON!!!!

  10. Sure UCLA played poorly, but nothing happens in a vacuum. The USC D line had a good game and that stopped UCLA from playing the game they wanted to play, and their response was poor. USC ran the ball well and UCLA played the run as poorly as UCLA plays the run normally . ‘We didn’t play well, they played poorly’ is a cliche as meaningless as it is often recycled.

  11. Two of the biggest wangers I have ever seen. Scott if you really hate USC so much why don’t you stop covering them. Please!

  12. Scott, you have finally come clean. You have always been a UCLA writer at heart. This video pretty much proves it — “Inside USC with UCLA beat writer Scott Wolf”. Maybe when Wang moves on to a better job you can take over his blog.

  13. Take away for me was Helton told Wilcox to play more man coverage. The blitz worked well and led to Rosen’s poor play.

  14. Didn’t even watch it. After checking the box scores it really looked like USC ran a very balanced offense. Kessler did fine, throwing for 175 yds and 15 of 26 completions and 2 td’s. The run game was well executed with Davis finally running like a man and not always going down on first contact. Time of possession really told the story, some smashmouth football was enjoyed by all.

  15. Scott Wolf, you went to USC start being a homer for a change. Constructive criticism is warranted at times for sure. There are enough ucla jerk reporters out there to be disgusted with their disdain for the Trojans. This was a mediocre ‘ruin team all year.
Losing at home to WSU, ASU, and pulling out a last minute win over hapless Colorado at home. Their big ooc foes were Virginia and BYU and UNLV. Gimme a break. They didn’t play a Notre Dame or Oregon both away games. Odds-makers had USC favored by 3 – 4 pts. with no money showing up for the ‘ruins all week to cut the odds. Scoreboard is what counts when all is said and done.

  16. I am sure there are going to be many yelling to Haden to give the coaching job to Helton just because USC beat UCLA. Really? Maybe that is good enough across town but not here. USC expects to win championships not just the rivalry game. Helton was exposed last week at Oregon as he was at ND. He needs more experience and I’m sorry but USC isn’t a training facility for OCs who want to be head coaches. USC needs a “name” coach that when announced, gets a wow. That is not Clay Helton…
