Pat Haden Rumors Flying Again

A fresh round of Pat Haden-is-retiring rumors are burning through the athletic dept. this weekend and some people believe an announcement will come this week. Last month, when rumors spread he was retiring at any moment, sources told me it was never the case.

But I feel compelled to mention it when so many people are discussing it at USC. As far as I know, Haden did not attend the UCLA game, making it the sixth straight game he missed.

  1. Stay with it SW, this week or next, next month or 2016 you will get it right. Haden’s retirement will be not be a surprise, because every week you remind us of the obvious…

    • If only we didn’t get the harshest penalty since SMU as a result of Mike running his mouth to the NCAA.

      • Garrett was right … SC was going to get buried anyway. If you haven’t noticed Notre Dame and the SEC run college football.
When McNair findings come out … the NCAA and those idiots are in deep sheeet.

      • That is such bs. If that were true then why did Pat not win the appeal when he sucked up like no other??? Why did every other school- tOSU, Ped State, Miami, UNC, Auburn, (this list could go on). You do know those schools all threatened to take the NCAA to court and used much harsher language. GoTroy, I expect that you follow things more closely than to go along with this clown. Did anyone read the report that came out in the McNair case??? There were several administrators who said, point blank, they thought USC was dirty though they couldn’t prove it so SC had to go down. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with Garrett’s statement at a mf booster meeting. Thanks for not keeping up. I can guess why the issues with Garrett though, while everything has vindicated the guy. But yeah, Fight on.

    • he didn’t show at Oregon … this team is no better , heck Kessler is a mess and the D can only handle frosh qb’s ( see CU and ucla ).

  2. Instead of passing along rumors, I’d love it if you could report some facts, Scottie. You should foster some relationships in the AD’s department such that they will trust you. Get us some real info instead of being a mouthpiece for the rumor mill. We don’t need a beat reporter for that. For that, we have Twitter and message boards.

    • touche … come on Wolfie , get on this Chip Kelly thing. These NFL guys are always in the mix , call some of them.

  3. If A.D. Haden is thinking retirement, he won’t announce it this week before the Stanford game and take away attention from the Trojans’ preparation.

And I would bet it would be a health issue if he does call it quits, because walking away now would not be the best timing for his legacy.

    • It seems clear that Haden’s health issues are much more serious than first believed. Not attending home games is very telling. The next month (potentially new AD and HC) will impact USC athletics for the next 10 years.

      • His health reasons were hiring a pill popping drunk as HC when everyone told him not to … no AD could survive that debacle. The health thing , and the fall at ND was just a good staged excuse. Haden screwed up big time.

        • I’m pretty sure the guy does have a pacemaker. His poor health is legit. But the Sark hiring and melt down would have gotten any other AD fired. Next week Haden should gracefully step down, have a new guy ready. Put the HC hire off for Jan. 2nd.

  4. This is good news … Haden only wants to hire the guys he likes , he loved Sark ( for some stupid reason ) and he likes Helton … that is not good news for the program. Don’t let Haden hire his buddies and then move on out … not good

  5. You all DO know that if Haden retires they are just going to put Steve Lopes in a AD don’t you. Lopes loved kiffin, Lopes loved Sark at the expense of orgeron. New boss same as the old boss.

  6. I think a lot of things are going on behind the scenes in the athletic department, because all of the insiders are silent.
