Defensive Tackle Keyshon Camp Decommits From USC

Defensive tackle Keyshon Camp of Lakeland, Fla., decommitted earlier today while on a visit at Pitt. He was also just offered by Ohio State, so that would suggest USC did not drop him. Maybe he met Clancy Pendergast (just kidding). Anyways, this means USC currently has 13 commits/recruits and five are wide receivers. Two are defensive ends and now none are defensive tackles.

  1. Kids are not impressed with this staff. Especially compared to the Harbaugh’s, Meyers, and Sabans of the world.

    • who LOVED his visit to SC. So much so that they almost asked him to leave because he was badmouthing the program the entire time.

  2. southern cal didn’t want Camp anyway… “He didn’t want to compete”
Camp found out that there were no one to compete with as southern cal has no other DL committed this year. Some of the WR are going to have to play DL…Just like Su’a Cravens had to play LB when he is a safety.

    • Ted,

At least he had committed to USC. However, like most in the country, he believes that ucla doesn’t even have a good enough team to even consider going to or wasting three years there.

    • Yeah and Urban Meyer is a complete dummy in offering Camp a scholie at OSU? Camp sure as hell didn’t waist any time making this move. Who would you rather play for, Urban or Clay? Kind of tells you where Haden has master-mind this program now.

  3. Recruits are bailing, and I’m guessing the vaulted Bozo Family scam is just that. Next thing you know Bozo U w/b collecting two star recruits.

  4. 11 vs .5 I will take the 11 anytime. Kids are not even being coached up for the next level @ Kettlebell U #askmiles

      • How is it faulty..? USC has 11 NCs to ucla in football who have .5 ..technically they have 12. Not faulty!

          • you know, it’s funny because it’s been an entire decade since SC’s last title yet you somehow think it’s relevant. Nobody cares about 1954 or the 70’s or even 2005. It’s 2016 and SC has had 4 head coaches in 3 years. It’s convenient to fall back on the years when OJ was winning Heismans, but it doesn’t change reality. Kids don’t like Helton or his staff and they’re leaving because of it.

        • Because, as you well know, USC shared titles with other schools in 1939, 1974, 1978 and 2003. In 1939 we shared the title with Texas A&M and Cornell, so according to your math that would count as .33.

  5. Best defense is a good offense…oh,wait…we didn’t do that either…more fish in the Ocean, maybe som great JC guys around want SC..THERE ARE 5-6 UNCOMMITTED….

  6. No bigger endorsement of the program than decommits. Nice work guys.

No DL? Maybe you can run prevent for the entire game. You are innovators.

    • The decos are players that may not fit into USCs future plans.. Chances are USC asked them to re open their recruitment.. USC has a chance to close out strong..Theyve done ok 7 enrolled with 6 hard and 7 available spots..

  7. Usc needs the big uglies up front, on that D line BADLY. . THAT’S where we suffered against STANFORD. I just hope , the recruiting ends up good

    • We suffer because of coordinator issues, hopefully that will be fixed don’t get me wrong it helps when a D-lineman can get push against a double team or better yet beat it, but are issues were scheme. Su Cravens is great as an alley player or in coverage for an outside linebacker, not great at taking kickouts against big fullbacks and guards.

  8. I read somewhere that next year is a big year for linemen. Whether that is true or not, it may be why they are not pursuing many this year. My concern is schooling the ones we have now and the OL. Granted we do need to have enough big guys able to play though.

  9. USC has an image problem. They are losing 5 seniors off that D-Line to graduation. Next year every D-lineman on that defensive line will be a freshman or a sophomore with the exception of Kenny Bigelow who will be a junior. You would think that D-linemen all over the country would be running to USC to get a chance to play early. Yet, as far as inside D-linemen are concerned, we’ve only had 3 commits(Betiku is not an inside D-lineman). They are Camp, Jimmons and Saleapaga, none of which are that great and two have already de-committed. What’s the problem? The problem is that the recruits think of SC as a program in crisis. That’s why Clay Helton was a bad choice. You needed someone who would give credibility to the program. You don’t do that by hiring another question mark for your HC. They needed a big name proven winner to convince the recruits that this HC will be there for more than 2 years. Clay Helton may become a great coach but he wasn’t the guy they needed at this point in time. This should have been obvious to everyone. Yet it wasn’t obvious to PH and Max Nikias and the rest of the board of directors. These people either have the IQ of a snail or they have other ulterior motives. It will only go from bad to worse next year if they go 7-5.

      • I hate to think that the people who are running an 8 billion dollar university have the IQ of a snail but with the things that are going on today in universities, in general, I guess that is certainly a possibility. More like, they just don’t want to spend the money.

    • They lack patience more then anything, Michigan was patient waited for the NFL year to end then went all out after the coach they wanted Jim Harbaugh. So in doing so I will be patient with Coach Helton I like the staff he has assembled and that he talks about being a physical football team but with that you also need to be disciplined and have yet to see that with him.

      • I also like the staff he has assembled. I agree that now that they have made a bad decision to hire Helton, we must be patient with him. He could turn out to be a great coach. I’m just saying that considering the situation that SC was in, he was the wrong guy at the wrong time. They had an image problem and hiring a question mark when you have an image problem wasn’t the right decision. You say that they lack patience. Is it that they lack patience or is it that they just don’t want to spend the money? Hiring untested assistants is much cheaper than hiring a proven winner. Had we hired Chris Peterson instead of passing over him for Sark because PH said that Peterson wasn’t a good fit at SC, we wouldn’t be having this problem right now.

  10. Another reason to believe 4 & 5 star recruits are not impressed with Pat Haden’s boy nor his position coaches. Looking at 3-star linemen on both sides of the ball in the next few years…
