The Trojans As Coaches Issue

I mentioned yesterday some prominent former USC players grumbled about the lack of “Trojans” on the coachng staff. The promotion of Kenechi Udeze apparently will be the only full-time former player elevated. Lenny Vandermade was made a position coach for the Holiday Bowl but he was not announced as one of the nine full-time coaches. I’m told Vandermade is still working this week so he may be back as an administrative assistant.

  1. That’s the problem with the insular Country Club program that USC runs. How about hiring the best and most qualified coaches you can get? Why do they have to be Trojans? This isn’t a family run buisness. It’s no coidence that the best coaches came from outside the program.

    • John, you’re missing the point. If USC hired more alumni then the blogger would complain that USC wasn’t broadening their search outside the USC sphere. Some people like to have their cake and eat it too.

  2. So…

How many times with hiring “ex-Trojans” does it take to figure out that it ain’t working ?

    I believe I’ve said this before ??

Does USC stand for the “University of Stupid California” ???

Until we get rid of these Arm Chair Coaches/Alumni the USC Trojans will never succeed as before and become an average College Football team !

Head Coach Helton, keep doing what you’re doing and don’t look back !!

Typically stupid people provide only stupid suggestions !!!

    And that’s just plain stupid…

  3. After the last two SoCal alumni Athletic Directors, there must be a natural resistance to hiring even more ex-Trojans.

  4. I thought coaches weren’t needed at USC – apparently they only get in the way according to some.

    • why does it matter where coaches play? Why can’t former USC players just be happy with the best coaches that are successful at developing and recruiting..

      • Can’t agree more. Let’s see how the new group of coaches do before tossing them under the bus.

  5. Never got the notion that you had to hire a coach who played at the school, never. USC’s most successful head coaches didn’t attend USC, Jones, McKay, Robo 1, Carroll. Same goes for assistants, unless they are top coaches, why hire them ?

Some on this and other boards would have the coaching staff with nothing but ex USC players
