Galen Center Complaints, Part II

A reader sent his own concerns after attending Saturday’s game against Washington.

  • The store was turned into a clearance sale, no new merchandise on display
  • My seat was missing it’s arm rest with bolts sticking out.  No big deal, I like sitting up in the upper deck and plenty of other seats to move to.
  • ·The other side of the suites is still not finished.  Doesn’t look like it ever will be really
  • ·Hope you brought cash because the food stands all share the same card reader and the phone line takes forever to run through.
  • Also hope you aren’t picky when it comes to food selection because they most likely don’t have what you want.
  • Half time used to be fun because Petros would make fun of the students who played the giveaway games.  He’s gone.

  1. The Galen Center is run like amateur hour the few times I’ve been to visit. Im told that the 3rd party company managing the place was a donor and this was a quid pro quo relationship. That being said, it is hosting the best basketball team that is from the same university with the best football team in Los Angeles so why worry about the small stuff right? Im surprised PP isn’t under sewage water with all of the recent rain.

  2. The USC store is an “outlet” store. I thought it was cool. It was very packed and it was somewhat cheaper because it was an actual outlet store. I’ll say this about the food. It’s a basketball game not Dodger Stadium. They have the menu of a movie theater (hotdogs, nachos, etc.) They also have taco stands also. There are restrooms everywhere and concession stands everywhere as soon as you come out of your section tunnel (at all areas in the Galen Center) you have food and restrooms. Also meaning no big lines. I’ve been to the Galen Center three times now. The only sold out game I’ve been to was Oklahoma/SC when we had OJ Mayo and Oklahoma had Blake Griffin, even that game was comfortable in every way. No long lines at all. And with the Galen Center only being 10,000 capacity the views are very close even at the upper deck.

    • I assume Sammy you haven’t been to Pauley Pavilion or Staples for a real basketball game. All those GC things that don’t count with you are available at the other venues.

Bozo U # 3 in total $$$$$$$$ raised in 2015 and dead last in $ spent for 50 consecutive years.

      • Yes. Arm rests with cup holders. Everyone I’ve gone with have always liked the Galen and never complained. Also the restrooms are very clean.

        • Maybe Pat Haden should fly over to Arizona and see how they do it. I went to a USC-Arizona game and had a nice pregame dinner where you could sit down right by where you went in to the game. Arizona’s AD has learned that when it’s a night game on a Thursday you want to be able to eat and see the game and then get home reasonably early to go to work the next day.

          • The ticket prices at SC are over priced for basketball. $70 for upper level seats against Ucla. I don’t think we should be charging that much yet for a program who’s been losing the last 4-5 years. Not trying to be a penny pincher, but we have no reasons to make people pay $70 for those seats. Not yet. Not when the seats are half empty.

  3. The part about Petros being gone is a plus. Yeah the food sucks, but it’s a 2 hour basketball game. Plenty of decent food options are available in the immediate area and in downtown for before or after. But first and foremost, one could go to Galen to you know…watch a basketball game…and for that it’s a great facility.

      • Haha…seriously…. We have a great team that’s fun to watch and now we’re bitching about food options? Have you ever been to Pauley Pavilion? They renovated that building and it’s still a dump.

        • We should compare our program to Arizona’s McHale Pavillion and not the ruins. They have a nice game experience there.

  4. Minus Petros is a big plus, and I used to be a fan– back in the early 2000s when he was solo and neurotic. But he wanted to be The Show at Galen, and I like the public address announcer to be in the background.
