  1. No thank you Scott. I didn’t even read your article… And I don’t believe Nikias will pay any attention to a so called “national search” We have been told of “exhaustive searches before” and its all a bunch of crap! We could be looking at an even worse AD coming in.

  2. Scott, I’ve seen AD’s in the stands with family and friends. And I’ve seen them on the sidelines. Who cares if he was in the press box. I’m sure there are many who go up and watch from there in a seat rather than standing on the sidelines. Also on the sidelines a person cannot communicate anything to a player outside the team box so a person would have to be careful. So maybe the press box is a good thing. Also what does the Josh Shaw incident have to do with the tea in China?

  3. There will be NO “national search”. You all DO know that if Haden
retires they are just going to put Steve Lopes in a AD don’t you. Lopes
loved kiffin, Lopes loved Sark. New boss same as the old boss.

  4. The first three responses to this article demonstrates the problem any AD and Football coach will have at USC. Everyone has their own opinion and perspective. And those opinions & perspectives often disregard facts that don’t fit their narrative . We all live in a bit of a bubble or echo chamber; so it is a good idea to remember our view is not universally held by everyone else. And those that disagree with us are not idiots or apologists or scum of the earth.

  5. There is a definitely a list of lows! There is a reason why HR people hire someone who has experience in the certain field they are hiring for. That was pat haden’s problem. He was an attorney/broadcaster for the previous 30 years. How does that prepare you to run a major college athletic department.

    • If Haden hadn’t let his twisted ego get in the way of hiring a credible football coach the issue is moot. He didn’t – Pat just couldn’t resist being Professor Higgins to Eliza ‘Sarkisian’ Doolittle…”Why I’ll have this licked in no time…and best of all this fool shall always be in my thrall!”

Enfield was a shrewd bold and successful move as was Dan Hubbs with baseball.

If Helton pans out Haden gets a huge rise…..if that happens then Pat stumbled into success akin to what Garrett did with Pete Carroll.

  6. I wonder if Rikki Ellison’s private meeting with Max Nikias had anything to do with Haden’s retirement?

  7. Listed under Haden’s faults are keeping Kiffin and Josh Shaw. While many people felt Kiffin should have been fired earlier (myself included) It is not a stretch to think he could’ve been a good coach. By letting him coach a few games Haden was doing the human thing in giving Kiffin the benefit of the doubt. He did make Lane fire Monte.
Josh Shaw is patently unfair. Josh brought shame to himself and the school with his lies. Haden only reported what he was told. To blame Haden is to blame the messenger.

  8. It’s stark just how much more important the highs are than your characterization of the lows are.
