USC Morning Buzz: Who Replaces Pat Haden? Part II

A former USC coach recommended to me the next athletic director should be Chris Del Conte of TCU, He has an impressive bio and I remember Pat Haden visiting in 2014 to check out their facilities. Perhaps more important for those of you with provincial concerns, Del Conte worked at Arizona, Washington State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He also attended UC Santa Barbara. On the negative side, he never won a Heisman Trophy or Rose Bowl.

  1. That’s interesting…is he related to Ken?I think he played football and basketball SC late 50’s-60’s?

  2. I really think the new AD does not have to have previous USC ties. Perhaps some things need to be shaken up a little, some outside the box thinking, someone with a decision making background, and does not have health issues or empty pants. If Trump gets out of the race, he could make USC great again. lol

    • Never happen at the inbred administration at SC. Expect SL to get the job. He has been there forever. All SC wants is your dollars, no new concepts. Great idea-no chance.

    • I agree but one only has to look at who USC hires for AD and football coaches to know how this will turn out. You see, one must ” get ” what USC is all about. Like the blogger has pointed out, only ONE AD has been an outside hire and since Howard Jones was hired from Duke, every single football head coach aside from PC and Larry Smith had USC ties, that’s 3 outside hires in 90 years for football

      • I am aware of the inbred wholesomeness of hiring somone who “knows” USC, I am just wondering if anyone “knows” USC anymore after what has been going on for the last several years and perhaps a different point of view about winning and standing up against the powers that be is in order. In other words, someone who is not so pc and has a set of balls.

        • touché- Well said Steveg! What is our culture now? Pat had the lineage and all it did was present our program through a different lense- A Compliance First motto and he still couldn’t get the NCAA to budge on our infractions. After all this, what is our identity

  3. From his TCU Bio

” Del Conte received a bachelor’s of arts degree in sociology from UC Santa Barbara, where he was a track & field student-athlete, and a master’s of education, administration and supervision from Washington State. ”

Sounds like a perfect paper shuffler to me with those degrees, how he isn’t in the government is beyond me

  4. Huh ? Track and Field ???……Sociology and Education Degrees from Universities, one without a Football Team, and the other noted for Lower Tier Under Performance. My take is that TCU’s gridiron success has nothing to do with Mr, Del Conte. Thank you, John, for the TCU Bio.
