Kevon Seymour’s NFL Combine Chance For Redemption

If Delvon Simmons was an NFL Combine snub, cornerback Kevon Seymour was a pleasant surprise. For some reason, Seymour got placed in the doghouse this past season despite being viewed as a team leader and important starter following spring practice.

Steve Sarkisian benched him as a starter before Game 2 against Idaho, then he injured his ankle in that game. Once he returned, defensive backs coach Keith Heyward never seemed to like him, which led to a season in the doghouse. The other cornerbacks were often mystified by Heyward’s choices the past 2 seasons and complained about how they did not learn a lot. So going to the combine is a nice chance for Seymour to make up for the disappointing senior year.

    • I don’t think El Lobo and KS have all that much in common, aside from leadership, speed, and cat-like agility.

        • El Lobo is the type of guy that likes to roam around. He’s never in one place; he roams from town to town. And when he finds himself fallin’ for some girl, yeah, he hops right onto a Metro bus and heads back to Woodland Hills. Yeah, he’s a wanderer. Yeah, a wanderer. He roams around, around, around, around.

  1. The blogger is a Flag football champ like most of the trolls that NEVER played the game, but are critical to no end..

  2. According to you, Wilson was the worst DL coach ever that the players complained about. Heyward was the worst DB coach ever that the players complained about. Wilcox was the worst DC ever. Sirmon was the worst LB coach ever? Yet these guys all got good jobs quickly. Maybe the players need to look in the mirror and so do you.

      • Exactly. Were opposing coaches gaming the media when they regularly gushed with praise for USC’s athletic talent? They never spoke of expert technique, in-play diagnostics, lack of mental errors, strategies, and other factors that a layman like me associates with good coaching.

Journalist Michael Lev moved to Arizona, and now covers U of A. After 2016 NSD, he shared with ex-colleagues in L.A. that USC had expressed interest in only two players in the entire U of A class.

Yes, there were depth problems at USC at some important positions. But the natural inference is that there was an unusually large gap between talent and performance–team-wise and for many individual players. To convince me that the major cause was not coaching, it will take more than the ex-coaches having found jobs. A lot more.

So, if holmes has a good analysis, I’d like to read it.

  4. Thanks WoIfman for the information… Why did Sarkisian put Seymour in the “dog house”? Perhaps the racist accusation was true about the southern cal football program.
