USC Morning Buzz: Here’s A Nugget From Spring Practice

One of the more interesting things I learned yesterday was totally unrelated to spring practice. Within the program, there is a feeling incoming freshman Jamel Cook can start at safety next season. This would certainly shake up the secondary and also alleviate a possible weak spot on the defense. It also shows how highly regarded Cook is, if he is viewed as a possible starter as a true freshman.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up being an All American linebacker, because at 6″4 190, he’s going to fill out in a year or two.

  2. There’s been a lot of feeling going on around Spring practice lately… earlier, the blogger said “The feeling inside the program is Browne starts the Alabama game”…. and now, “there is a feeling incoming freshman Jamel Cook can start at safety next season.”… I got a feeling… that tonight’s gonna be a good night!

  3. I’m not doubting the kid and I’d sure welcome his talent if he were good enough to start as a true freshman, but I just don’t see that happening…I could see him or Tell beating out Chris Hawkins. Hawkins is NOT a safety.

  4. This is the flip from Florida State. Anyone know the story behind that?

I didn’t know we had anyone who could recruit well in Florida since Coach O left, especially well enough to get one to flip from FSU.
