Lynn Swann Developments

J.K. McKay is working at USC today and officially not sure of his future plans but there is a lot of buzz he will not be part of a Lynn Swann administration. If true, it is a loss because McKay was popular with employees and athletes. He was a good public face for USC. Although Swann stressed not wanting to shake things up, this would be considered fallout from the change. And not in a good way.

  1. The 100th annual Pulitzer Prizes were handed out today. Sadly our faithful Blogger was overlooked again. There were 14 journalism categories, primarily recognizing the work of print newspapers, but also recognizing magazines and digital news organizations.

        • While I don’t disagree, GWB has mucked up historically. Obama is just totally striking out.

          • Clinton turned down bin Ladin on a platter so the 3000 deaths on 9/11 are on him. I love the tape of him admitting it. Nice try though. There is no one more evil than Hillary and Obama when their 3AM phone call from Benghazi came.

          • What about GWB getting word of the attacks, but he decided to sit and continue reading to kindergarteners?

          • More to the point, was there anywhere more innocent (other than a church perhaps) that he could have been at the time. Quite the coincidence. Got his Enron buddies off the Front Page quickly though, so Mission Accomplished.

          • Glad that entire clan is finally out having said that If he’d bolted he would have been mocked – it was no win either way i.e. he’s a Republican – media always on the hate for them no matter what.

          • Obviously 22, you missed GWB flying away from New Orlean just prior to the devastation that is still visible in N.O. today.

Then GBW publically praised his appointed incompetent disaster coordinator on a job well done, while many of N.O. population were on their roofs pleading for help, or starving in the Superdome and living in unsanitary conditions.

The upshot, Bush gets great seats at the SB.

          • Just prior? He flew over it while it was flooded. Obama meanwhile plays golf while Houston sits under 20 inches of rain.

          • I’m shocked Sammy. You’ve got a brain after all.

GWB should be locked down in a cell in a Maximum Security Federal Prison.

    • Sadly, Helen is still here on a daily basis whining. Except, of course, after a USC loss. #NotAsMuchOfATravesty

      • Yes we can always count on that front runner disappearing after shooting her big mouth off.

  2. If McKay wants to stay on a 1/4 the salary he’s making now (and it’s a lot!), okay. But he’s not nearly worth what he’s doing for the school outside of being an official greeter.

Keeping him just because he’s popular with some people is no way to run a business. The guy has no real skill set and came aboard strictly as a favor from best friend Haden.

I hope Swann finds some type of more realistic spot for him or encourages him to go to work for his brother, who has offered him a position in the NFL.

    • The blogger’s mentality is one of a liberal, keep people around even though they have no real skill set for the job, it’s all about being fair and nice and caring and…….

    • The 57-year-old McKay has been a practicing attorney since 1982. In 1986, he joined the law firm of Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble, Mallory as an associate and became a partner in 1990, specializing in real estate litigation. He represented the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in negotiating the potential relocation of the franchise and consulted in the financing and construction of the team’s new stadium in Tampa. He then worked in 1997 with a group from Hollywood Park trying to bring an NFL team to Los Angeles.

In 1998, he was executive director of football operations for Majestic Realty Co./New Coliseum Partners, a group headed by Ed Roski to bring a football franchise to Los Angeles. He worked with senior NFL executives assessing criteria for a Los Angeles team. He was responsible for negotiating the renovation of the Los Angeles Coliseum and for the acquisition of an expansion NFL franchise.

In 2000-01, McKay was vice president and general manager for the Los Angeles Xtreme of the now-defunct XFL.

Most recently, he was a lawyer at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro in Los Angeles.

      • I don’t know what all this means except he’s really 62-63, not 57. His name has taken him a long way and I know for a fact he has never done much at USC under Haden. That’s what some of his oldest acquaintances tell me, with a laugh. I went to school with McKay, back when we called him Horse Face.

Lawyers are a dime a dozen and I sincerely doubt McKay has ever actually tried a case in court. That’s never why he was hired. Bringing in business is another matter.

I wish him the best and hope he does well with his brother. USC can do as well or better without him.

          • McKay couldn’t transact his way out of a paper bag.

You said he specialized in real estate litigation. Never happened and he’s never been even a remotely skilled lawyer.

  3. Hmmmmm (thinking)? SW, weren’t you the guy who balked at the thought of JK McKay assisting Pat Haden. Saying that more qualified men could be used for and learning this job?

      • Yeah I heard something about that. McKays had a couple of NFL front office job offers also if my memory is correct. From the beginning JK made it clear that he was hear to assist USC for Pat Haden. We knew that at the beginning and I respect his decisions.

  4. If Lynn Swann has the power to move JK McKay out of the picture, then Clay Helton better stay on his toes . Because Swann is a football guy, and wants his alma mater to compete at the highest level, and won’t think twice to remove Helton next season, if the team is not competitive.

      • Yep, If Clay Coach falters (like opening 0-2) he better watch his back and ’07, ’08’ 09 recruits better beware that SoCal Swanny doesn’t fire yet another coach and lay waste to the dreams of 3 or 4 more years of their lives.

  5. if Swanny has any brains (after getting knocked out repeatedly by George Atkinson) the smartest thing he could do is COZY up to the woIfman…I recommend taking him to Five Gueys every Friday and set up DAILY telephone conferences with him. making him a judge on the Cheerleader Selection committee wouldn’t hurt either.

Swanny, you need to come to GRIPS with the cold, hard REALITY that gueys who don’t get along with the wolfman, don’t seem to last very long at Southern Cal…

  6. Guess will have to get tapes of his dad and play the old jokes at events. YAWN. Thank goodness.

  7. JK is, by all accounts, a very nice, honest and personable man who happened to preside (as the associate AD overseeing football) over the Kiffin era, which included lying to the AP about voting USC number 1, Deflated ball-gate and the Sun Bowl sunglasses-gate, to name a few things. Then he was part of the quartet (along with Haden. Mark Jackson and Steve Lopes) who decided that hiring Steve Sarkisian was a “home run” hire. Then he was with Sark, throwing back a few at Salute to Troy. Later, he sat in a room with a sick and weakened Pat Haden for three months for a coaching search that resulted in two informal phone calls and forcing the President of the University to make the hire himself.

He might have been very popular with employees and the athletes. But he was also the “adult” entrusted with overseeing the football program, which did little but embarrass the University over the five years he was there. In short, he was a nice guy who failed in his primary responsibility. Not sure why this would be a loss.

    • Interesting statement IG but you disparage McKay as if he was the guy pulling the strings and as if Lynn Swann is something/someone totally different. He’s the same old, same old retro SoCal Stepford Husbands clone. He’s not even a young clone. It’s funny you think McKay leaving and Swanny coming is a change. Sad, but funny.

  8. Relative Helton and JK leaving. It is not good nor bad. What is relative is that when a new commander/leader/head guy–or call it what you will takes over there is always change. Some small, some large. Swann replacing Haden changed the status for Helton–not the loss of JK.

  9. JK McKay has always been attached to Haden just like Mickry Hatcher was to Mike Scoscia.

Hatcher still has no job in MLB.

  10. Re. Lynn Swann Developments…
NOBODY in the ADs office should be retained!!! Clean sweep ✌

    • You said it correctly. A clean sweep is needed. Someone has to be able to have an instinct towards the other major sports to be one step ahead of the competition. All the club & asst. coaches hired/promoted in the past # of years have been in over their heads.
