USC Morning Buzz: One Player Who Emerged From Spring

We hear linebacker Uchenna Nwosu impressed the coaches during spring practice, who were surprised he was not more prominent last season.

  1. Ya I heard that too like a week ago

Any updates on the McNair case?

How about a shout-out to Steve Sample?

  2. The coaching staff was surprised he was not more prominent ? Huh? Wasn’t Justin Wilcox the defensive coordinator under Clay Helton last season ? Hey Lynn Swann, are you paying attention? Oh , it’s just a matter of time. .lol

    • Fred, I don’t think the coaching situation the last few years was stable or as focused as it should have been (understatement!) & this new coaching staff is a definite upgrade. And it is not unusual for a new coaching staff to look at players differently than the previous staff. I think you may be a bit harsh on Helton and overplaying the looming specter of Swann. That said, I think Helton and all coaches are under scrutiny–as all coaches are when a new AD takes over.

      • I agree, and believe it or not, I’m all in with Clay Helton, unlike I was with the two previous clowns before him . But nevertheless, I know the pressure is on him, and I hope his fate isn’t based on wins, and losses next season, but rather direction , discipline, and development of his players.

        • Unless Helton sets some kid on fire or some other God awful situation arises I do not see a scenario where he gets the boot after only 1 year. But it is USC , so anything is possible.

        • Kiffin and Cutty Sark made their mistakes no doubt. Sark beat Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl while Interim Helton lost to Wisconsin. Kiffin went 10 – 2 that one year with Barkley under ncaa sanctions. Pendergast was there when Trojans gave up 62 pts. to ASU getting Kiffin fired unceremoniously. Who cares about direction if you don’t win. There is more than enough talent on the squad not to go 8 – 6 like last season.

          • I totally agree about the talent level at USC, and I’m expecting the Trojans to do better then 8-5 . And I’m not falling for the toughest schedule in college football nonsense, either, because the Trojans have recruited better then most schools on their schedule, and the Pac 12 is an average football conference at best .
