Morning Buzz: How Influential Is USC Right Now In Pac-12?

The Pac-12 holds its meetings the first week in May and there is plenty to talk about. Commissioner Larry Scott has not delivered on the revenue projections for the Pac-12 Network and this has upset some schools. Then there was last week’s fiasco with the satellite camps, where UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero was criticized by Scott in public for voting against the way the other 11 schools wanted.

One would think USC be the Big Dog to lead the conference through some of these issues but Lynn Swann doesn’t start until July (and how much does he really know right now when he has never been an athletic director). And how aggressive has Pat Haden really been the past four months? He’s kept an extremely low profile with his health and then knowing he has one foot out the door. Remember USC and UCLA made concessions in revenue-sharing too when the Pac-12 Network got started because they were the two schools that made the most money being in Los Angeles. So there’s been a little bit of a power vacuum despite USC’s size.

  1. When the heads of the 12 families meet, will Don Chianti and Don Swannzini resist the pressure to get into the satellite camp business?

    • The Swannzini era has yet to unfold but history tells us that the reign of Don Clark over the USC football program was quite forgettable.

    • It appears Dan G doesn’t know how to stay in line and play ball like everyone else.

    • Don Chianti is no one’s lap dog…he goes his OWN WAY, and he has the MOST NATTYs in the NATION to back it up!!

that Pencil Neck Geek Larry Scott would expect Don Chianti to be an errand boy shows he doesn’t know our guey at all…

      • I hate to claim this, but isn’t Bryce Dixon’s 6 year sentence street cred u ? To quote Metallica “It’s sad, but true”.

          • Yes I was. I was pretty clear about that. Apparently one trip to Bama has changed his whole mindset and I’m wrong. Oh well. I’m not shy to say we got beat for him either. We lost out on him. It’s not the end of the world. At UCLA you pansies (all 8 of you) would be crying to Brandon Huffman right now on Scout and begging for an answer. It’s April. Life goes on.

      • Mike “the Turk” Leachozzo says there is good money in satellite camps. It’s the way of the future.

        • ok, but i DON’T want the satellite camps around School Children! and i want to keep the camps in the area around the Coli…they’re lost souls, let them have the camps!

      • Our guy? Lol..I didnt know he was athletic director at Cerritos City College… #dumbasstroll

        • i’ll admit he could stand to drop a few….to that end i’ve taken the liberty of signing Dan up for wolfman’s elite Chiseled Steel ™ boot camp.

this hard core training class’ limited clientele includes Navy Seals and many current pro athletes. i’m not naming names but one’s first name is Kobe…

      • I can’t understand your street language, I guess I will have to get Angel Davis of the Black Panthers to help me, but if I am reading this correctly, you are saying that Thug U aka ugly has more championships. If that is the case, I know for a fact that 11 of them were bought with professional basketball players and 13 from wonmen’s softball. Good going cheaters and liars.

        • (chortle) why don’t you take all this valuable evidence to the NCAA??? They pay GOOD MONEY for juicy intel!! HAWR-HAWR!!!

Who do you think sold them the info about Reggie and Lake??

  2. Scott,

In this post you take the expected swipes at the USC athletic department but they are subtle and buried in the second paragraph.
Your most punishing blows are reserved for UCLA’s Dan Guerrero and the recent satellite camp fiasco and you led with that in the first paragraph.
My question is this: Are you feeling alright?

  3. Actually the real question is and should be ; How big is the PAC 12 in the NCAA? There are plenty of big dogs in the PAC 12, but do they even get to eat at the big kids table with the N (SEC)CAA

  4. #ClownU has size problems, hehe… .

There’s a reason why Dan is running shop #UCLA in on the verge of singing the biggets apparel deal in history, rumored $20.8 mill per year… .

  5. The one thing they should talk about is an eight game conference schedule. It guarantees the conference six less losses which translates to a far better chance of making the playoff. My question is who is in favor of a nine game slate. Surely not the coaches.

  6. I read the US Justice Dept is investigating the satellite camp ban as discriminating against poor inner city kids. Did DG vote for aor against the camps?

  7. Like I’ve said before, the Pac 12 is a weak football conference that hires finess football coaches. Which is why I was baffled as to why USC has the ” toughest schedule in 2016 ” . Is it because of the one game against Alabama ? So if SC played in the SEC , would that make their schedule easier? Media brainwash hype is hilarious, and it never makes sense, but people fall for it all the time

  8. The LA schools gave away their clout when the PAC-12 conference voted even revenue. TV money from football is not what PAC-12 presidents have as a top priority. It is and always has been business & especially Government Grant money. This is why the PAC-12 will never become an SEC level football power conference who does need football money to help pay the bills down south.
