NFL Draft Talk

UCLA linebacker Myles Jack has still not been selected through 27 picks. No mock drafts had him this low. Yes, I’m aware of the knee concerns. But he’s probably a pretty good pick for someone now, right? I’m surprised Pete Carroll didn’t take a chance on him.

Jared Goff to the Rams with the No. 1 pick. I’ll defer to the NFL but a year ago who was predicting he was the No. 1 pick overall? And let’s remember Max Browne was the No. 1 QB of Goff’s recruiting class. That’s good motivation for Browne.

  1. His knee must be worse than thought. At least bad enough that team don’t want to risk a first round pick on him, especially the bad teams at the top of the draft. Maybe he goes to a good team late in the first?

    • Mid 2nd rounder.. Im happy for Kenny, he’s a great kid with alot of upside. Plus he’s a client. Green Bay gotta a good kid!

      • Happy for Clark as well. Great kid. Plus, I am working on a legal issues involving his family, so I am happy for the Clark family.

    • Jack proved to be a bonehead dropping out of school and expecting the NFL to bet on a questionable knee. If he had rehabbed and stayed he could have proven he was recovered and gone in the top five next year. Matt Leinart, in comparison, was smart to come back after he needed time to recover from off-season elbow surgery and a lingering sports hernia.

      • Instead of at least acting like he wanted to be part of UCLA he opted to immediately leave school and work towards the NFL Draft which was probably a smart move AT THE TIME. They told him he could be back for a possible bowl game and he said “nah”. You live, you learn.

      • Had Leinart left his Heisman Year, he was a top 5 NFL 1st rd draft choice lock.

His coming back for a Square Dance class and NC shot and BCS Texas lost, cost him dearly in the draft.

Kessler made the same mistake. CK wouldn’t have improved his Jr. Yr. stats – 36 TD’s and 3 Int’s.

Bozo U would be much better off QB wise today had CK moved on.

    • FlopJack’s celebrating the biggest drop in draft history with Mora, who’s writing projected 2nd round numbers on a napkin that don’t make any sense to the little gutty flopper.

        • You think Barkley was a top 10, first round projection the day of the draft? Typical idiot little gutty.

          • Barkley was projected number 1 after his junior year, lots a good that extra season at USC did. How many Trojans were drafted tonight?

          • Projected #1 a year before the draft? Only by idiots. That must be why you paid attention. Poor FlopJack. His bumb leg and poor attitude finally caught up to him.

          • If you idiot little gutties can’t take it, you shouldn’t dish it out. Fact is, FlopJack made news and history tonight. Biggest bust of the 2016 Draft by a mile. There’s some substance for you. Get it?

          • Hahaha, history? Okay, sure if you say so. “Bust”implies that he doesn’t pan out when they actually start playing football. You could use some work on your substance.

          • Too bad FlopJack got humiliated so starkly tonight. Or was he really smiling on camera? You obviously don’t know what an NFL Draft bust is. Not surprising. No implication needed.

          • Jack, I don’t think anyone knows what your definition of an “NFL Draft Bust” is. It’s okay though, many great minds were not understood or appreciated until long after they were gone. I can see it now: Aristotle, Galileo, Einstein, Jack B?

          • Oh wait, the omniscient Mushy is now lecturing the trolls on attitude. Pat yourself on the back Mushy.

          • USC beat the hell out of you little gutties in November and your first-rounder got tossed around like a pansy.

We now have 68 first rounders and you have 25. Kind of like USC has 24 Rose Bowl wins and you have five – only worse.

          • I love USC fans, you guys don’t realize you’re the Kodak of college football, always doubling and tripling down on the past. Since Mora showed up UCLA has more wins than USC, has beaten you guys 75% of the time. Oh yeah, we also have more first rounders. But hey, you’ll always have the class of 72!

          • Since 2000, USC is 11-4 against the pitiful little gutties and our new coach just hammered can’t-win-the-conference Mora. You’ll always have the…what exactly? Just what is it your football program has? Nobody can really figure that out.

          • Keep looking back Jack, it’ll keep your blood pressure down. Try not to think about how Helton will be a .500 coach after Bama.

          • It’s always fun kicking you around. Try and win something for once on the football field. You might not have to resort to the silly blood pressure approach. Is that all you got?

          • I get college football fandom, but come on man, you went to USC not an SEC school or Ohio St. USC should have provided you with more pride then just your football affiliation, I mean you can’t put it on your resume if you didn’t actually play, you know that, right? This has gotten kind of sad, I’m going to sleep, maybe someone from SC will get drafted tomorrow.

          • USC’s a better all-around school than ucla, regardless of football. You don’t need to be a USC-level football player to have a good resume, especially when you’re the one hiring people.

          • Absolutely, bozo u currently resides in 10th place in 4 year Pac – 12 Athletic graduation rates.

That’s quite well rounded, you know like you.

            #herecomesmushy’sexcuse(s)

          • Highly subjective. Both are good schools, neither is elite, my MBA from HBS took me much farther than any degree (graduate or undergraduate) USC or UCLA has to offer. I’d say USC is really strong in Southern California, UCLA is better internationally. Again, highly subjective.

          • Since USC has had many more players drafted than any other school in the country, I’m not really concerned about it.

But even in our low draft years, it’s nice to know USC can still kick the crap out of ucla.

          • OJ: H T: Zero SB’s

            Carson Bomber HT: Zero SB’s

Matt Leinart HT: Gigantic NFL bust and Zero SB’s

            R. Bush: HT winner: Vacated and returned to the NYC Athletic Club. The first time a HT has been returned for any reason.

          • The mere fact you’d compare USC with Kodak says a lot about your jealousy and personality. It’s obviously just too tough for you to swallow that USC owns L.A. yet again and has humiliated you in both football and hoops. We’ll be announced as the winner of the Crosstown Cup again soon – like usual. USC wins twice for every loss since it started. Stay with the denial NYC. You wear it well.

          • My personality? Really? you’ve won 1 out of 4 games against Mora, I guess that record will keep us both happy.

          • Typical little gutty. Thinks in small segments, like four games. Too bad you got slaughtered last when Rosen somehow got “spooked” like a horse. USC’s won 11 of the last 15, a few Rose Bowls and NCs to boot; 66-19, 50-0, 40-21. The Trojans always have a much bigger picture than you little gutty Trolls. We can afford to since your history stinks and USC has one of the elite traditions in all of college football.

Now, don’t get all sad on me like last night. Just bow down, like you little gutty’s are known for in college football.

          • Can’t remember for sure the last time USC lost to Ohio State or an SEC school. (1973 I think for THEE Ohio State)

          • No, I got. Based on your what have you done for me lately logic, you could say Ohio State or SEC schools aren’t North Dakota State

          • You mean 9-6 counting the two forfeits, Jacqui. You better stick to My Little Pony trivia.

          • You want to pretend 66-19 never happened? That’s so little gutty of you Troll boy, trying to take credit when you got blown out and humiliated on the field. I think USC should be stripped of the 50-0 slaughter too: cruel and unusual punishment on a helpless little gutty team. Hah, hah, hah.

          • Jacqui, your arguments fail when you aren’t accurate. USC forfeited two wins over the ruins in 2014 and 2015 for using an ineligible player. Now when you play My Little Pony you can make up whatever you want. But the NCAA rules in college football are the rules. See the difference?

          • Only wrong in Ponyville. Jacqui Girl. Go to the Heisman website and see who had to give their Heisman back because they were ineligible to play because they were too greedy to wait a year for the NFL draft.

          • USC wins so many Heismans, us Trojans don’t need to hang out at the Heisman site. You might like it though, boytoy. They don’t like bruins there and it would be another great chance for you to read the names of USC players who beat your head in.

          • Jacqui, the point is that in Realville SC had to forfeit two wins over the ruins. You are too full of yourself to realize that you make other SC fans look dumb when you state things that aren’t true. There is plenty to bash the ruins about that is factual.

          • Only a pure bred little gutty Troll like toyboy would deny USC won 66-19. That’s the difference between Trolls and bruin fans with any pride. The Trolls actually live in a world where USC lost that game. The bruin fans I know freely acknowledge they got destroyed and laugh it off. toyboy 22 clings to it like an old stinky jockstrap that he wishes he could put on.

          • Only the NCAA denies that USC won any games after greedy Reggie took the $300,000 from Lloyd Lake and Michael Michaels, Jacqui Dear. You brainless rah rahs need to refocus your ire on Reggie instead of blaming the messenger.

          • Reggie never took the loan idiot and the NCAA never proved USC knew about his parents’ arrangement. That’s common knowledge in the court system already and by the general public. You’re no messenger.

You’re just a common Troll who doesn’t understand 66-19 is a Trojan win regardless of what the corrupt NCAA says. You’re so slow you probably don’t even know the NCAA is corrupt. You little gutties are just happy lyin’ Woody escaped. That’s only because the NCAA’s been corrupt for a long time. Troll on toyboy. 66-19. Hah, hah, hah.

          • Reggie never took the money? Jacqui actually believes greedy Reggie paid for the free house, car, diamond ear rings, hotel rooms, limos and meals for his parents himself.

          • You beat us 3 years when we where on sanctions. What has Mora done for you lately? How many titles? Bruins measure your whole life comparing yourself to the Trojans. The amount of trolls on this board is living proof everyday of this well known fact.

          • I love the fan superiority argument. I hate to break it to you BOT, but check the lead in to this thread and the number of comments. Maybe we can call it a mutual admiration society?

          • You Trolls have a need to be heard on a USC board because your success is all about USC and our historical and current dominance over you in football.

You notice we aren’t hanging out on a pitiful ucla board where nobody goes. You have to be here and we’re happy to have you NYC – where you can live out your denial fantasies while getting your fanny kicked on the field and on the court.

          • No, full subjects on this board are about UCLA, I don’t think that was the case when PC was your coach. The game has changed, you’re stuck in the past.

          • What does that have to do with what your fellow sock puppet said, Gollom-Wolf? The probatiion excuse for Kiffin is weak sauce.

          • Be smarter than that – USC was truly a moribund program until PC showed up in 2001. It was hit with sanctions 2nd only to SMU’s – PA St. nothing, Miami – a pass. NC just got a finger wagging.

USC is the focus of many nationally antagonistic writers and commentators even more than ‘the Princess’

bel-air tech? Not even in the Top 25 of any listing and save for the 0.5 NC in 1954 – 62 years is an awful long time ago.

We’re back after 5 years of rigged penalties. We’ve ridded ourselves of an AD who refused to confront the NCAA and believed Sarksian was a smart hire.

We’re USC – we dictate even to the NFL and their re- entry into Los Angeles.

We don’t have any phony former coaches that we feel we have to canonize because that is all we’ve got.

            Troy receives .. Troy disposes.

          • I’m not sticking up for Haden. He deserves all the negative he gets for hiring Sark.

But it was not Haden’s call. The BOTs called the shots there about the NCAA.

          • True Jack but at a minimum he could have voiced some objections to what was imposed on USC esp. after the ‘no harm no foul’ to PA St.and Miami.

Haden did a lot of good, he truly truly did and I believe he’ll do well w. the Coliseum renovation.

But he should have let go of some of his ‘power’ and delegated someone to go up against Emmert and the rest of that corrupt cabal instead of what he did – I have the power and I refuse to call a spade a spade. – earth to Pat – we (USC) got screwed.

If he’d done it a lot of support would have flowed his way – he didn’t. He didn’t have to – he’s set for life.

          • Maybe Haden should have been more forceful, but he was constrained by the BOTs and told no aggressive more against the NCAA would be made. I understand where you’re coming from, however.

          • Alvarado, I’ve genuinely enjoyed our banter, I find you to be fairly reasonable, which is refreshing in a venue like this. With that being said, you can’t say “Troy receives .. Troy disposes” then tell me to “be smarter”.

The Pac-12 is tougher than ever and USC is just another program now, you haven’t won anything of note in 7 years. Yet, you haven’t changed anything to adapt to the modern environment. You think you can still get by on being USC. There was an entire decade when you were the only program in the Pac-12 with access to private jets in recruiting. There was also a time when UCLA paid so little that assistant coaches had to live 90 miles from campus, now UCLA has the highest paid staff in the confrence. Times have changed, USC hasn’t.

          • If you truly believe UCLA is now relevant based on last year’s end good luck. UCLA cannot recruit in depth – they can get 25 decent top players but after that – nada. Injuries – which all teams incur – then decimate what skill they hoped they had – thus Mora hiding behind Guerrero when the latter voted against satellite camps – i.e. if UCLA were truly credible that vote doesn’t happen – end of story.

As to Lynn Swann hire – yes times have changed. I don’t see him making all the decisions w.o. some serious input – such was truly lacking in December 2013.

A 80 yd. practice field is telling – UCLA’s biggest blunder for their football team was having the hospital on campus – that gargantuan array of bldgs. now consumes what >40% of the campus – more traffic, less mobility, still> 20 miles from your ‘home’ field which a number of recruits never see before the home opener.

Mora’s about to prove out what he is – a below average coach.

          • Here’s the biggest disconnect with UCLA and USC fans, you guys think we have the same level of expectation, we don’t. If Jim Mora had the same record at USC that he’s had at UCLA over the last 4 seasons (Which is the best record of any coach in the Pac-12 South over the same period), I’m not sure he’d still be your coach, or he’d at least be on a very warm seat. On the contrary, if Andy Enfield had the same record at UCLA he’d be gone or close to it.

When Mora took over at UCLA, USC was the nearly unanimous number 1 team in the country and was churning out top 5 recruiting classes with only 15 spots to give. 4 years later, the UCLA program is in far better shape than it was before Mora; can you say the same about USC?

Before Mora, guys like Mique Jaurez, Josh Rosen, Thomas Duarte, Eddie Vanderdoes, Kenny Clark, Jordan Payton etc., would have been USC’s for the taking, the conference is no longer USC and the 9 or 11 dwarfs. I can tell you first hand that UCLA has increased their financial investment in football by over 5x over the last 4 years, institutional advantages USC had over the rest of the conference no longer exist. This is a challenge USC has never faced before, but yet your administration and fans think the answer lies somewhere in the past instead of adapting to the present and the future.

          • You still don’t get it – the sanctions imposed, the ‘ottahere’ by PC and the sudden need to sign a new HC all severely impacted our ability to sign recruits.

Even with that and the group you listed you still failed to win the Pac-12 outright – you still lost to Stanford and you still failed to get into a major BCS Bowl let alone the Rose Bowl.

Your highwater mark the past 20 years was under Bob Toledo in 1998 – very similar to the present – a series of coaches and bel-air tech finally had 17 years (1982 – 1998) to make a move – as usual they blew it (November ’98 @ Miami) and down the drain until sanctions are rammed in 2010.

As to Enfield well get ready Altford is nothing to write home about – what 1 NC in 40+ years?

When the media think of college football historic Top 5 programs USC is part of that list – conversely when media do the same for mens college basketball ucla is no where in sight.

That’s the difference – both fan bases may demand success but only one school has carried on and has a great future and it ain’t over on the westside of LA.

          • I really don’t even know how to respond to this. You’re right, Alford is nothing to write home about, his seat is scorching hot and he’s been to 2 sweet sixteens in 3 years, when’s the last time USC won a game in the tournement? Enfield gets to the tournament after two seasons that would have qualified as the worst in UCLA history and you guys are ready to build a stature in his honor.

If it was all sanctions, when will USC be the dominant program in the conference again? Sanctions have been over for a few years now.

          • What you’re not focusing on is that as egregious a decision it was by Haden in hiring Sarkisian (and it turly was) hiring Altford was even worse. Guerrero had no one lined up prior to sacking Howland – he had two picks in mind – VCU etc.. Then when he blew any interests there it was “Hmmm who else is out there? I’ll throw a dart and let’s see where it lands.”

USC fans are on Haden for his foolish choice but hey you poor fools have the usual ‘civil service’ protection for Guerrero – and if such is not there how do you explain retaining Guerrero.

BTW – Enfield won at FL Atl. – Mora had one good year w. the ATL Falcons – he’s been a bust everywhere else (NFL) and three straight years has yet to win the Pac-12 CG.

          • Basketball and football are not apples to apples sports, a good recruiter could literally take a no name team to a final four over the course of one recruiting class, football requires much more time and energy to turn around. PC, Saban, Harbaugh (at Stanford) didn’t start winning day 1, Calipari turned UK back into a title contender over night.

Haden made a foolish choice in Sark, but not because he was an alcoholic, it was becuase USC thinks the answer to their future can be found in the past (UCLA had this problem after Wooden as well). Are either Helton or Swann innovative hires that show the broad reach and deep pockets of USC? Or are they two guys that USC feels comfortable with because USC thinks they can still get by on name recognition?

Do you really think UCLA fans like DG? They don’t call him “Chianti Dan” out of affection. With that being said, you are right about the difficulties of parting with a public employee, which is certainly a source of frustration. DG is safe because he’s the only AD in the entire UC system with a budget surplus, which is the only thing our current chancellor cares about, with regards to athletics. Enfield got to one sweet sixteen at Florida Atlantic (Alford has been to two at UCLA and is on the hot seat), and similar to Clay Helton, he’s not keeping UCLA fans up at night. He’s yet to win a single head to head recruiting battle with UCLA.

Mora is no Pete Carroll, but he sure hasn’t been a “bust” at UCLA. The program is in as good a shape as it has been in the last two decades, can you say the same about USC?

          • Good post – however Harbugh turned MI around in 1 yr. it took PC 2 @ USC and the same w. Myers wherever he’s coached (Bowling Green, UT, FL and now OH St.) great coach’s plans are immediate.

Enfield snatched Chemezie Metu from UCLA – Lawndale HS and Altford will admit that believe me he screwed that one up big time.

Haden hired Sarkisian as someone he could totally control – ex. running down from the press box at Stanford. Haden was to be Professor HIggins to Sarkisian’s Eliza Doolittle. The reality that ‘Salute To Troy’ w. Sarkisian smashed and words chosen hit Patty boy in the head of just what the heck have I foolishly and arrogantly placed in charge of the football squad? This is Haden’s legacy This was a show of laziness on his part in not properly vetting Sarkisian nor interviewing more than two candidates. Frankly for Haden interviewing someone is something that is unnecessary if one has the pedigree I have – why I know I’m insightful – look where I am – on >15 boards as director, NFL veteran qb, former NBC sports announce, Rhodes Scholar. I don’t need to ‘interview’ I KNOW what a winner looks like and I’m the most powerful person next to NIkias – he begged me to take the job.

Had Haden taken a look at: Gary Andersen (OR St.) and an NFL coach or asst. this wouldn’t have been the mess it was and is. – another 2 years lost.

Mora is average coach that lucky for him, landed in a place of incredibly deep high school talent. Put him anywhere else and <0.500 –

            Take care

          • Come up with some new material dipstick! What’s next? Some lame comment about USC basketball?

        • Play the man – Jack foolishly philosophized on why pickling him was a risk.

          “[The degenerative problems are]
there, but it’s nothing extreme,” Jack said. “Down the line, possibly I
could have microfracture surgery — potentially. Who knows what will
          happen?

“Nobody knows how long anybody is going to play in this league. To play three years in this league would be above average.”

Yeah that’ll make an unsure GM decide to pick you. I’ll bet you can’t tell Jack anything, no one can tell that fool anything.

          What a dummy.

          • And you would think in this day-and-age of shameless self-promotion that Jack would have at least had the good sense to just be quiet.

When I read his comments in the paper I wondered “Who is this guy’s agent?”

          • He’s a good player but obviously not too smart. You would think his agents would tell him what to say. That’s what their there for.

Anyway, he paid the price for his stupidity. Gives new meaning to the term, Fall Guy.

          • Facts are hard things for rah rahs. Jacqui still is in denial that USC was forced to forfeit the last two regular season games in 2004, the Orange Bowl and all the games in 2005 for using an ineligible player.

  2. All I have to say is the USC kids suffered without proper coaching therefore no shows in round one. Wait til next year, several will be marked 1st rounders. Ok. Goodnight!

  3. Most feedback from nfl guys is Jack’s attitude was also a factor in him dropping out of round 1… Once he’s healthy after surgery and fully committed to doing things his future nfl employers way then maybe he has a shot, Today it shows. VERY SLIM AT BEST!

  4. That’s what happens when you run your mouths! There’s no crying in Inside USC! (Baseball)

  5. Lil gutties trying to put on a brave face as their heart got ripped out of their chest tonight…

    #MilesMyFreakinBrokenLeg!Jack

  6. Not taking anything away from the kid, but Ezekiel Elliott…I didn’t see that one.

  7. Jared Goff being picked #1 by the Rams isn’t going to be motivation for Max Browne, why would it ? All the nfl scouts keep saying over and over, that the spread type of offensive does not develop the skills quarterbacks need at the next level. So high school quarterbacks better think twice about signing with colleges , that throw bubble screens out of the shotgun all game long .

    • Hopefully it gives Browne the drive to work hard and be just as good or even better than Goff. We should hope.

      • Exactly! And as long as USC keeps running that offense , the chances of them producing a #1 draft pick at quarterback will be slim to none . And eventually 4&5 star QB’s coming out of high school will figure it out.

        • For what it’s worth SC has been getting turned down by all its “spread qb” targets. I don’t think anyone is impressed with the SC offense. So yeah you make a good point. They’re already figuring it out.

          • Tyson Helton tried to convince everybody that his quarterback at Western Kentucky, Brandon Doughty was going to be a #1 draft pick. But once again, when you don’t line up under center the majority of the time , you don’t develop your basic qb skills. And who knows when Doughty will get selected, but there’s a chance he might not get picked at all.

          • SC says they are a power/spread team, then you hear them mention pro sets. They’re all over the place. We have no true identity. At least that’s my take on it. We don’t know whether we’re coming or going and QB recruits want to see results before they start jumping on the Clay/Tyson Helton and Tee Martin act. Results in the field are what top QBS are looking for with us at the moment. As it should be

          • Your 100% correct, and QB’s are also looking for coaches to prepare, and develop them for the next level, and that hasn’t happened at USC since Norm Chow left . Say what you want about Chow, but he had several quarterbacks under his tutelage that were taking # 1 in the draft.

          • Your 100% correct, and QB’s are also looking for coaches to prepare, and develop them for the next level, and that hasn’t happened at USC since Norm Chow left . Say what you want about Chow, but he had several quarterbacks under his tutelage that were taking # 1 in the draft.

  8. Uh oh! Laremy Tunsil admits to taking money from an Ole Miss coach. Not good. This isn’t over.

  9. SC is not developing their players. They didn’t have one guy drafted in the first round. I don’t know how you can consistently have one of the top ten recruiting classes in the nation and yet have few first round draft picks and not a whole lot of 2nd round picks.

      • I’m saying that every year SC’s recruiting classes is in the top 10 in the nation. That means that the talent coming IN is among the best in the nation. If the talent going OUT 3 or 4 years later isn’t in the top 10 then those players are being used like hunks of meat. The players help the program just through their natural talent but the program doesn’t help them by developing them into NFL ready players. Look at the last few drafts. You’ve had a few high draft choices but most of the SC players go in the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th round and many aren’t drafted at all and must sign on as free agents. Of course it’s the coaches fault. That seems to be the best explanation. It sure ain’t the cheerleaders fault.

      • Yes. I think it is. For the last 6 years(including this year), SC has had a total of 5 first round draft choices. Ohio State had 5 1st rounders this year alone. Year after year, SC’s recruiting class is in the top ten in the nation and quite often in the top 5. They were #1 a year ago. If each year you are bring IN a lot of great athletes but 3-4 years later you are not sending OUT many great athletes to the NFL, I would say that you are not developing them. That’s got to be the coaches fault.

  10. Why would Carroll take a chance on Jack? He knows where he went to school.

  11. Deal of the Day:

    • Deal of the Decade

When do we have the banquet from your Bryce Dixon prediction fall from grace?

      • When Bryce does his time, he’s coming back to USC with a ton of street cred. Check back in 5 years GueyToy.

        • So Helen is claiming there a special eligibility like for Mormon missions? Classic.

    • no te preocupes, Helen, Jack is the only kid with a shoe deal in place BEFORE the draft!! AND i am reading he had an Ins policy in place paying him $5 Mill iffin’ he DINT go in the first round!!

so you see, he has already earned more than your extended family will in their lifetimes, and he hasn’t even been drafted yet!!

      • Not so fast Chuckie, the Blogger only deals with facts on this blog.

Myles Jack’s policy will start to pay if he falls to the 45th pick in the draft and will get about $60,000 per pick after that. That means Jack will collect around $1 million if he slips into the third round. The third round. That’s chump change for my family’s earnings.

But you said he was a sure #1? Now we’re looking at the third round? And I’m still waiting for you to post his 40-yard dash time.
