In Hue We Trust

HUEHere’s what Sports Illustrated’s NFL writer, Don Banks, wrote about the Browns taking Cody Kessler in the third round.

“I have to admit, when I heard new Browns coach Hue Jackson saying “you gotta trust me on this one,” in his defense of Cleveland’s third-round pick of USC quarterback Cody Kessler on Friday night, my first reaction was to think that yet another Browns quarterback selection is doomed.

“The last time I heard a coach use those kinds of words to explain a quarterback acquisition, Brian Billick was asking Ravens fans to “take a leap of faith” in terms of Baltimore trading for the porked-up Scott Mitchell in 1999. “Trust me, Baltimore, I know quarterbacks,” Billick said, flashing some ill-timed confidence in the former Dolphins and Lions quarterback.”

    • Lol. .I sent an email to the Sports department at the DN suggesting since I am a stockholder and know the CEO that Scott Wolf get fired for allowing this BS.

  1. Does Hue Jackson coach at USC? No
Does Kessler play at USC? No
Does any of this information have anything to do with USC sports ? No
NO ONE BEATS A DEAD HORSE LIKE SW , NO ONE

    • I don’t know. It’s a slow week and the entire sports base in the nation is fixated on the NFL draft – you go to any other program’s blog and you’d see the same (AL, Notre Dame, OH St., LSU, FL etc..) exactly the same.

      • It’s bad enough that I come here a couple of times a day, I sure ain’t wasting my time on other sites

        • Frankly I don’t know why you would – consider the morons from be-air tech that roost here 24/7 (the little one just above you) . This is all they have because no one gives a rip about any of their sports programs thus here they be.

    • NO ONE LOSES TO WISCONSIN IN THE HOLIDAY BOWL LIKE CLAY HELTON AND USC, NO ONE

      • Not even Thug U aka ugly who had to beg to go to a bowl game. BTW, who did they lose to? I forgot, that is how irrelvent Thug U is.

  2. Sports people have short memories aka you are only as good as your last game

As I recall Kessler had a fantastic 2014, and was even being touted as one of the potential greats for 2015.

So who will emerge– the 2014 or 2015 version? I do think it’s safe to say he will at least do better than Maniacal Manzel.

  3. It’s a hit or miss situation, and nobody knows what type of quarterback Cody Kessler will turn out to be. Somebody thought Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Jake Locker, and Johnny Manziel were going to become big hits, and selected them in the 1st round. But not too many experts thought highly of Joe Montana, or Tom Brady , but look what happened. So Hue Jackson is either going to look like a genius, or not too smart, because remember , he only used a 3rd rounder on Kessler.

    • Montana came back from down 20 points to win a bowl game in a snowstorm. Montana was drafted below the 3 round.

Any comparison of Kessler to Montana is just pure FB insanity. Next some bozo u fan will compare Kessler throws to those of Dan Marino. LOL.

  4. On the Sirius Radio NFL today Pat Kirwin was talking about Kessler. He thought he was most probably not a starter but definitely had the skill set to be a solid backup. He was also complimentary of Codys coachability and his ability to read defenses. And with Hue Jackson as his coach he has a decent shot to succeed. Opinions are a dime a dozen and everyone has one. But what is not an opinion is that Cody Kessler was drafted in the 3 rd and will have a chance to make an NFL roster. Good for him.

    • Very true – who in their right mind would have predicted Cody Kessler drafted in the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL draft? Not me

      • Agreed. But because he was , is no reason to continue to insult and demean him. I suspect his 3rd round money and SC degree will set him up quite nicely . Probably much better than most of his critics.

        • Mea culpa mea maxima culpa – prove me wrong Kessler – shock thee world!

          • As a politician would say–I was in artful with my words . My comments re insulting and demeaning behavior by others was not directed at you.

          • NTW – appreciate your ‘sense’

Kessler broke the mold of the ‘lock’ OC had on the USC qb slot – Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez, Barkley (well Booty did hail from Louisiana)….out of Bakersfield.

  5. Here’s a little bit of an Inside USC story.
Oct. 1999, USC was practicing when a play blew up. Coach Jackson got fired up at the player who missed his assignment and threw his cup of gatorade and it hit a young reporter. After looking at what had happened, Hue and all the USC players broke out in laughter because it hit the reporter in the face. The young reporter was humiliated and has been scarred ever since.

          • JG, as I recall, you objected to my nickname for you. So I quit using it. You and I dislike each other, but we can trade barbs w/o reverting to dubious innuendo or scatalogical references.

Pinky on the other, has a serious problem with my posts. When he gets frustrated he starts with the elementary school BS.

I call him Pinky because he exhibits closet latent tendencies that are frequently the basis of his attacks.

I should Ignore him, but I have my own problems.

          • I was just curious how you came up with Stinky for one of us and now Pinky.
Don’t sell yourself short, this is top shelf stuff and we’re all just trying to keep pace.

          • Now see that is such a rich, subtle, C. Grant put down. 5 points for JG.

        • Well Mora to pull his finger out of the former defensive cordinators mouth. Sheesh, have they not stopped playing Broke Mountain the board game, yet?

    • How long will Peg Leg Jack last? I say about the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee and then he will be gone. Meanwhile Kessler will be there for seven years.

  6. In all honesty, I thought Kevin Hogan of Stanford would have gone in the first two rounds and Kessler would have been drafted around the 4th. Give Kessler time and an oline and let us see what he can do. Good luck to the both of them.
