Julian Jacobs Goes Pro

JACOBS.PROVUSC point guard Julian Jacobs confirmed an ESPN report tonight that he will sign with an agent and definitely enter the NBA draft. Jacobs was not invited to the NBA combine but will workout for NBA teams. Who replaces him at USC? No one.

Jacobs was unselfish and widely respected. Not to mention a true point guard and taller than Jordan McLaughlin, his likely replacement. One has to wonder why there seems to be such little appetite for so many players to stick around since a successful season ended? USC has lost Jacobs, Darion Clark, Katin Reinhardt, Malik Martin and Malik Marquetti. And what will Nikola Jovanovic do? But Pat Haden gave Andy Enfield a contract extension so all is well.

  1. Don’t just speculate, Wolfie – do some reporting. Talk to some players, talk to the coaching staff. Is it a matter of those lesser players seeing the writing on the wall – that they don’t feel they’ll get any playing time given the level of talent coming into the team over the next couple of years (making transferring a better option)? Or is Enfield a tyrant that nobody can tolerate? Is the USC administration full of gestapos who make college life intolerable? Are there no safe spaces at SC for formative students? All things we want to know. But blind speculation can be done by just bout any member of the cadre. You seek answers? Go get them. It’s not our job…. it’s yours.

    • It interferes with his day job at Del Taco and night classes at Cerritos City College. Lol!

      • Meh. Washington had it’s three best players declare early, and kids love Romar.

The fact remains that in basketball, after one year, you are free to ply you’re trade for money.

The other fact, which everyone fails to remember, is that basketball players go to USC, or UCLA, or Duke, or Kentucky, not so much to get an education than to be a basketball player. They may say otherwise, but they really don’t bleed cardinal and gold, or bruin blue, or have the bluegrass of Kentucky coursing thru their veins. And they would rather make money than sit through class.

If JJ is fine plying is trade overseas, I wish him well.

        • Excellent point re: Romar & U-dub. And these marginal players don’t see any value in the degree. i guess they can always come back for that later on. I’d argue that schools shouldn’t be obliged to pay for them – unless they put in 2 – 3 years to the team (or organization) to which they committed – i.e., basketball team, band, etc.

        • Romar has another McDonald’s All American guard coming in so he’s got a good history of replacing good players. Enfield is on the right track in my opinion. I hoped for Jacobs to return, but we’ll be fine.

    • Those bozo u players leaving the Basketball program early, for whatever reason, aren’t singing any praise for Andyain’twinning – more like see ya!

  2. Note to Blogger: college athletics is fluid – student athletes come and go each year.

  3. One has to wonder if the blogger where alone in the woods would he do any reporting or just look for snarky USC comments

  4. Is it just me, or does anyone else think the blogger needs to move on. These comments of his tend to show unhappiness in his job and a bad attitude toward the subject matter. Perhaps he needs to do soccer in England for a few years or do reporting on westwood, both are boring as hell.

    • It’s you if you really think it is the blogger’s fault SC basketball just received devastating news.

      • Don’t listen to this SUCLA idiot.

Yes, Wolf is one vindictive individual. And his usual sarcasm is a poor man’s sense of humor. Can’t trust the guy. No wonder he never gets any interviews with relevant Trojans

        • “Sarcasm is a poor man’s sense of humor”
Walnut, please let me use this quote because you are the smartest guy on this blog.

  5. A Pat Haden contract extension is probably worth as much as those Confederate War bonds.

  6. Andy Enfield deserved the contract extension, because he got the program back on track . USC is not the type of program that will maintain a top 25 ranking year after year, so they will always have their ups and downs. Kentucky, and a handful of other programs are the only Schools that can maintain consistent stability. UCLA has the resources to maintain high basketball rankings, but they hired a mediocre head coach, just as SC did with their football program.

    • The Oregon State coach has done more with less. It’s amazing that so many USC fans acccept mediocrity when SC was only a few points away from taking basketball over in 1971.

  7. Look around you dim bulb blogger , this happens all over college basketball

      • Not shocked that he left, but I still think he’s not a first round pick. He’s gotta work on his outside shot and work at creating his own shot.

          • NCAA tournament team again. Jacobs was the “magic johnson” of the team. He made us go. But McLaughlin will be a year older. We’ll miss Jacobs explosiveness, but I think we’ll be alright. The team will all be older so that should count for something.

    • Oh Wole Sammy, bozo u heads back to the Pac-12 cellar.

Don’t you think it’s strange Andyain’twinning’s team is in turmoil and coming apart at the seams after a middling successful season?

      • Are you suffering from the famous “I don’t remember that” Bruin Concussion?

Andy Enfield has a THREE GAME WINNING STREAK BY 57 POINTS GOING AGAINST THE UGLY BRUINSāœŒ

  8. Okay, I’ll bite. I think his lack of willingness to return might have something to do with the NBA rookie minimum topping $500k and his sincere belief that he’s good enough to make a roster. Shockingly, most of these kids don’t live in a world of perpetual negativity, fueled by the grave injustice that college head coaches make more than 30 year beat reporters. Now go back to ripping on Kessler and making up nicknames, which no one ever uses, for 17 year olds.

  9. Enfield should not have been hired in the first place. He is a very mediocre coach on the sidelines. Everybody beat the ‘ruins last year, which still left the Trojans at 10 – 10 incl. the conf. tourney.
If Nikola leaves who is going to rebound other that Metu? Thirty two teams lost in the first round of the ncaa tourney so give Enfield a medal for that accomplishment.
