USC Pictures Of The Day

BELL.1976.2

Something old and something new. It’s the legend, tailback Ricky Bell, in 1976. And below it’s the new freshman, wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe.

  1. There’s the name that so deserved that Heisman – Ricky Bell. W.o. a doubt one of the kindest and most considerate players to ever play the game. Griffin never should have won it twice.

    • I wholeheartedly agree. He was great. I still remember him gaining 300+ yards in a single game, I believe it was against Washington State and on the road.

    • Bell was a sweetheart in the body of Jim Brown. One of the greatest Trojans of all-time.

  2. Ricky Bell was a “beast” — I cannot believe he is gone now. Great player and by all accounts a great guy. FYI notice how drab the SC unit was compared to the modern version.

    • Just hand him the rock, boom.lived in Hawaii at time used to get the games on radio, but I could see Ricky on the coconut wireless… Great Great Trojan.

  3. Ricky was a victim of East Coast Bias, losing out to Tony Dorsett for the Heisman in 1976.

  4. Never seen Bell play, but my dad said he was just as good as any of the other Heisman winners to play at SC.

    • He was good like you don’t see today in football. Defense always knew he was getting the ball,he punished the defense. I forgot the quote, but there was an AA linebacker who said the day after he played Ricky he couldnt move , his body was pulverized from trying to tackle him.

      • That’s great. You’re all lucky to have seen him play. I think Justin Davis and RoJo could be the best 1-2 punch we’ve had since Reggie and Lendale…

        • Not only do I agree with that, I think we have two other backs who would be a great 3-4 punch and a freshman who , given the chance will be quite good.Think the Hawaiian will redshirt.. Our backfield. QB,RB is quite promising , now and future. 2017-18 looking good.Let’s hope my friend come February we are saying that about OL And DL

          • Yep. We have some good depth at tailback. If our OLINE can play like the veterans they are we should be running the ball down the other teams throats.

          • Ricky even split time with another back or his college stats would have been better than TD’s..and probably an Heisman winner, McKay loved him and always kept him fresh.

          • Martell’s

Ucla is the leader at this point with Sears committing to USC .
