Who are these teams playing at the Coliseum? It might not look exactly like a USC team but it is as the Trojans donned gold helmets in 1957. The opponent is Oregon. The Ducks defeated the Trojans, 16-7. USC ditched the gold helmets after the season, perhaps because it went 1-9 that year.

  1. Yeah that was Don Clark’s first year as HC after Jess Hill. Clark’s 2nd year wasn’t much better 4 – 5 – 1. His last year 1959, decent 8 – 2, cept’ the two losses were to ‘The Princess’ and bel-air tech.

After 1959 John McKay replaced him

    • I met Clark’s daughter in law last year, nice woman, she had recently lost her husband

  2. I had a picture with gold helmets I thought it was a joke because Ucla and Notre Dame wear Gold Helmets.

  3. Went to the home games that year,,actually had some decent athletes and coaches just couldn’t get it together,it was after those PCC penalties; the next year better and in ’59 it looked great at 8-0,beat some top ranked teams, then it caved in. I still do not know to this day why ,although freezing temps and snow at ND did not help
