USC Morning Buzz: Who Was The Most Overpaid Employee In 2014?

SARK.HADENUSC athletic director Pat Haden made $2.9 million in 2014 according to university tax returns obtained by USA Today. Steve “Total Success” Sarkisian made $3.7 million while Andy Enfield made $1.9 million.

I can only imagine what some athletic dept. employees think when they see these figures. Sarkisian went 9-4 in 2014. Hey, pretty good when you consider last year’s 8-6 record. Enfield won two Pac-12 Conference games in 2014. Haden hired them.

So back to the original question: Who was the most overpaid? And don’t think Lynn Swann wasn’t fully aware of Haden’s salary when he negotiated his deal.

  1. Ok this huge outlay is now out there so going forward just what is Pat Haden being paid for retrofitting/renovating the Coliseum?

  2. A better question is who was the most over paid sports writer in Southern California. No question that we know who that was.

  3. We sure didn’t get our moneys worth!!!!!!! (except in entertainment).

    • Shockingly, there have been more “tickets are expensive” & “coaches get paid a lot, with guaranteed contracts” post than cut and pastes of the Athlon preview this week.

I was a fan of the big zinger, whereby Swann was aware of the market value of his job. Straight fire!

  4. Actually, Steve Sarkisian was paid more then that, because he had USC funnel another million dollars into some company he owns, just as Pete Carroll did while at USC. So without a doubt, it was the Drunk Clown, that was over paid .

  5. Why do I get the feeling the blogger “Feels the Bern.” Class warfare, here we come. We can only hope people will see through this charade and vote to represent all people and elect Trump.

  6. SC destroys UCI in baseball..no mention from bitter blogger…I’m sure if we lost there would have been this long diatribe on the how we let the wrong coach go blah blah…bitter bitter

  7. You would think the way USC throws its money at their management people, they wouldn’t have a problem bringing in a big name football and basketball coach??????? Think again….

  8. This is odd. Wolf posted something about USC athletics that seems to have a negative spin to it.

  9. Curiously, how much did UCLA pay their football & basketball guys to go a combined 23-22, including 4 blowout losses to their big rival?

    • Gee Goober, that’s public domain knowledge. UCLA is a public school – Look it up

      • Remember – try to be witty or insightful. Otherwise it just comes across as pathetic.

  10. The most overpaid person or persons was the executtive search firm they got paid to drop the ball more times than the receiveing corps

  11. Does Wolfie EVER bother doing a little bit of research before posting this inane items? You want overpaid coaches based on win-loss records and salary? Try these:

Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia, $3,080,000 (18 wins in three seasons)
Mike London, Virginia, $2,303,599 (11 wins in three seasons)
Kirk Ferentz, Iowa, $4,075,000 (only five wins a season the past five years)
And let’s not forget the King of rich failures, Charlie Weis who snookered Notre Dame and Kansas.

Compared to that lot, Andy Enfield and Sark might be considered less of an embarrassment, certainly true in Enfield’s case.
