USC Morning Buzz: Another Graduation With Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll received an honorary degree last year from USC. And last week, he delivered the commencement address for the business school at the Galen Center. Note USC president Max Nikias taking a picture with his phone at the beginning.

Here’s a Carroll excerpt: “I got fired five times (before coming to USC). Imagine that. When I arrived here, they didn’t just receive me with open arms. The media was on my butt. The fans were on my butt. The students didn’t know what to make it. If there had been twitter, facebook . . . it would have been unbearable.”

  1. Last week? Sounds the the Blogger was asleep at the wheel and missed this.

  2. Carroll could talk wild dogs off a meat truck. Always fun to listen to the guy. But I knew when he turned recruiting over to his son, Spaulding, that the party was over.

  3. One of the players, from the Carroll era who I knew, said that Brennan Carroll was a really weird guy.

  4. Could you imagine Lane Kiffin, or Steve Sarkisian giving e speech like that?

  5. “I’m so fired up to be here to tonight.” He says every time he speaks.

    • You’d think with all those powerful people UCLA wouldn’t suck so badly in football & basketball.

      • Mora gets a pass on that. ucla is banned from the Rose bowl in Jan.

Some list. Fisher’s been in town only for a few weeks and he’s already in front of local lifer Chianti Dan, loser of yet another Crosstown Cup, and last seen getting his satellite camp veto overturned.

    • Those numbers are worthless. Here are a couple that mean something:
      Helton 40
      Mora 21

    • Actually, Coach Carroll spoke about the Coach Wooden pyramid.
