USC Picture Of The Day

USC.ND.PROGRAM.1972On Friday I posted a picture of the USC-Notre Dame game program. Below is a picture of the game, where Anthony Davis (below) scored six touchdowns on runs of 97, 1, 5, 4, 96 and 8 yards in the Trojans’ 45-23 victory over Notre Dame. The Irish actually outgained USC in total yards despite Davis’ big day.

  1. Then Davis thought he was too good for the NFL and wound up playing for doomed football league. Now hawks pictures in front of the coliseum.

  2. I think ND completely dominated the 1st half and led 24-0 ,except SC scored just before the half ended; after that SC dominated and scored all the rest of the games points.Davis was the dominate player that day and on many others…just a fact.

    • Wasn’t that the 1974 game? The game known as ‘The Comeback?’
      I may be wrong….Hmm

      • I know they won both ,and AD was good in both but q/b ‘s were different and ND coach retired…’72 &’74 were couple of McKays best teams.

  3. Anthony’s “big [beautiful] day” was on kick off returns —- which didn’t count toward our rushing offense. And that’s why “total offense” isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.

    • Once again a USC guy explains what the numbers really mean, all lost on SW. Shocking!

      • Yeah, Jack —gotta admit I was a little surprised when our blogger lumped the 97 and 96 yard kick returns with the 1, 5, 4 and 8 yard runs from scrimmage…. and concluded, with numbers like that, it was surprising we were “outgained.”

  4. One of the truly memorable games in my life……in any sport. At halftime I went outside to mow the lawn thinking all was lost. A few minutes into the second half my father swung open the back door and said, “You better get in here. USC is serious.”
