USC Morning Buzz: UCLA Signs Huge Under Armour Deal

SWANN.COLISEUMNew athletic director Lynn Swann is supposed to be a good businessman. Well, he is good at sitting on boards at least. But when Swann takes over in July, he can deal with UCLA signing what is believed to be the biggest apparel deal in college history with Under Armour ($280 million, 15 years). Because USC is a private school, its deal with Nike is not public. But it’s not considered to be one of the best deals and Michigan reportedly has a better deal with Nike. Phil Knight’s been chummy with USC for years (John McKay was on the Nike board) but this is an area where USC is lagging. Maybe that chummy relationship has hurt USC’s apparel deal.

  1. USC has so many financial resources, that a shoe deal wouldn’t make or break them, like it would UCLA . And I’m sure Lynn Swann will see to it that the next shoe deal will be a block buster .

    • Yet those resources aren’t used to demolish the century old Coliseum relic and build a 21st Century football only stadium.

      • We don’t own the Coliseum and it would make no financial sense to spend a billion dollars on new stadium.

        • “USC to operate, restore Coliseum

          Sep 5, 2013

          Arash Markazi

          ESPN Senior Writer

LOS ANGELES — After years of public and private negotiations, USC finally has control over the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the next century.

The final hurdle was cleared Wednesday when the California Science Center gave final approval to a deal that not only grants the university control over the publicly owned Coliseum but also the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and nearly all of its revenue.

In June, the governing board of the California Science Center unanimously approved the final part of a lease agreement for the Coliseum, paving the way for USC to operate and restore the historic landmark. USC took over the operations of the Coliseum and Sports Arena in Exposition Park in July.

The agreement ensures that the Coliseum will remain the home of USC football for 98 years.”

Why would it not make sense if SC controls the Coliseum for the next 98 years and gets all the revenue?

          • They don’t own it just have control over the operation. They got control by agreeing to pay for upgrades. Any changes still have to be approved. They would never let USC tear it down and would you put a billion dollars into a property that you don’t own? They will end up though spending north of 400 million.

          • Well bozo u doesn’t have $$$$$$ to squander on the crumbling mausoleum, but the bozo fan base does – get ready for expensive PSL’s Rah-Rah fans.

          • It is called supply equaling demand dip$4it. If you went to college you would understand.

          • Save your nickels and dimes BOT. The bozo u PSL’s won’t be worth the bozo u on field ROI.

          • Then why did they let them tear down the Sports Arena? It’s newer than the Coliseum. I would put a billion into a 98 year lease if I thought I could make billions more out of it instead of doing half a billion patching a relic.

    • Am I to infer from your post that bozo u has more $$$$$ to throw away than the Ca Univ. system and individual Univ. endowments.

Please Mr Sampson, remind me when UCLA recruited at a substantial $$$$$ buyout another Univ’s alcoholic HFBC, negotiate that premium alcoholic FB coaches contract in the Seattle bar, and finally, facilitate the bozo u HFC’s alcohol problem further by allowing free flowing alcohol in the locker room and coaches offices.

I’ll bet bozo u would prescribe Chesterfield’s to cure lung cancer.

        • Just Squats is here 24/7, begging us to talk to him. USC is his lifeline. We’re all he’s got. He’s not even a little gutty.

          • Yea, He has to hit his bozo U quota of the day. Really is sad but it goes to the all the good looking girls have stalkers.

          • Mushy hits the hook. It’s not hard fishing in a barrel of bozo u sardines.

          • Jacqui is having a tough time adjusting to her gender reassignment just like the old Bruce Jenner. This blog is the only place she can vent her frustrations.

          • Nothing frustrating about USC beating ucla like a drum in both major and minor sports. USC owns and runs L.A. Too bad little gutty loser boy.

  2. Is some of this just based on size of the current student body and the number of alums (meaning, the number of most likely customers for apparel)? A private school like USC would have smaller numbers in those categories than state schools like UCLA, Michigan, Texas, etc.

    • Don’t forget that UCLA non-alum Owns will be buying their gear as well.

      • Don’t you mean Squatter? The dude or Thug U are lucky to have a pot to p!ss in.

        • Not at all. If he spent countless hours on Bruin sites hurling dozens of childish insults every day I would but he does nothing like that. I appreciate Sam’s enthusiasm and loyal following of Trojan athletics.
          Do you love Owns?

          • JG, are you sure Spanky doesn’t hurl childish insults at Bruin fans on Inside UCLA?

Trouble is Spanky wishes anyone in Inside UCLA would pay him any attention. You know JG, very much like trolls do to you.

            #howmanybeansinaquartjarjg?

          • So you are a hypocrite as well as an antisemite, Kurt Waldheim Jr. You mock non-alum ruin Fans but not non-alum USC Fan.

      • Since I didn’t attend UCLA, I don’t sport UCLA gear.

But I understand there are snaps of you at the Crumbling Mausoleum in your “I’m the # 1 Toejam beancounter” sweatshirt and genuine toejam propeller beanie.

  3. Oh, Scottie. Don’t hide facts that don’t fit your narrative. The $50 – $100mil that Knight donated to the McKay Center? That counts. And that’s Nike.

  4. You’re basing your conclusions on a lot of unsubstantiated data. One could also make the supposition that the UCLA deal pales in comparison to the USC deal with Nike, but we don’t have those details because USC is a private school.

    • Nope. Nike can’t pay all those “big” programs that sort of money. Maybe one or two of them, but not all of them. FSU wins titles now, SC just looks back to 10 years ago.

    • Other reporters close to the program report the 2012-13 Nike deal we have to have been second only to FSU.We have 4 yrs. left. Its all crazy money. Let’s look at whole picture come 2020, Our own network? PAC___# change and so forth. But back to 2016, “just win baby”.. 99 days and counting.

  5. The last big contract is always the springboard for the next. We should thank ucla and all the little gutties for their continued support. Whenever USC comes up for renegotiation, the Trojans will capitalize on the past.

      • Owning you little gutties in football and basketball by literally slaughtering you isn’t that big a deal, obviously. For it to be a big deal, ucla would have to finally win something, you know, this century.

Kind of like the Crosstown Cup, another competition you rarely win because USC always steps all over you. How’s that for the “present” little gutty?

          • We USC fans literally butcher you little gutty losers every day here. It’s the only reason we like having you ucla punching bags hang around. You’re easy money.

          • If that’s true why is bozo u in third place in total NCAA championships.

bozo u #1 in crosstown thimbles and #3 in total NCAA NC’s.

Mushy, you sound disabled. Maybe Ron Mix can help you out.

          • Ron Mix is Jewish so there is no way the antisemite Jacqui would hire him.

          • If you literally butchered ruin fans you would be arrested and charged with murder, Jacqui. Perhaps a dictionary would be a good investment for you as you heal from your gender reassignment surgery.

          • Poor toyboy. USC not only owns L.A. We own the cops too. Chop chop loser.
            Hah, hah, hah.

          • Poor Jacqui is having a tough time with gender reassignment. She keeps going in the mens room!

        • The CrossTown Cup is for second rate college Rah-Rah’s. As if anybody but bozo u cares. Losers cling to any two bit award.

Recently Mushy UCLA defeated bozo u for its 10th Water Polo NC and 113th overall NC.

More recently the bozo u chicks won the beach bingo, sandbox wolleyball NC – an incredibly insignificant accomplishment when you consider only 20% of NCAA Div. 1 women’s sports care to field a team.

Most FB recruits think bozo u is a third rate private academic college located smack dab in the middle of the So. Central ghetto. And Mushy, they’re right.

bozo u can have the crosstown thimble.

Currently bozo u sits in third place behind #2 Stanford and #1 UCLA in the total of of NC’s won.

Nike OWNS bozo u lock, stock and barrel. I mean John McKay is wearing Nike shoes on his statue. Nike shoes didn’t exist when McKay was coaching the bozo’s. LOL.

Mushy, try negotiating a competitive apparel contract when you’re all ready Nike bought and sold.

          #hoorayforronmix

      • Wait we pummeled you in every sport this year except women’s softball.

  6. Reference number 24 on the list, #rahrahs #Salty and #ClownU always looking to one up #UCLA.. .keep looking up #Trogans lol

      • UCLA doesn’t need a 160 lb CB. Jackie Jones would get less playing time then Little Puffy.

Maybe the bozo u women’s rowing team can use Jackie for ballast.

    • Uber in Westwood, where did you pull this list from? Don’t tell me it is from a reliable source. It is something you made up in your mom’s basement. Come on, tell the truth.

  7. Danny “The Godfather” Guerrero, just schooled Swanny BIG TIME!!!

    cha-CHING!!!!!

hey Swanny, maybe you can get to some free Nike wristbands for the women’s volleyball team!!!

    • Up Chuck, Mr. Lynn Swann to you does not start until July 1, 2016. so yes of course, the thug u a.d. did “school” Mr. Swann, because Swann is not in office. What a Maroon.

        • Upchuck, first explain what an “EE” is? This secret lingo is so lame. Second, so they worked for free, typcial of a school system, get something for nothing. Third, Haden’s contract and Swann’s contract do not expire until June 30th/July 1st. Fourth, how do you know Swann is not learinging the craft right now? Fifth, I have been trained on the job, so that means I get paid while learning.

See, I am training you as I right this. Doesn’t mean you will pick up anything, but the training is there and for free.

          • EE = Employee…had my HR hat on (tee-hee)

thanks for the real world lessons, i’ve been up in the Cadre Ivory Tower too long.

            #WayTooLong

          • Charlie,
Thank you for the explanation of what a “EE” is, because i did not know. Your humor was funny as well. I hate to say this, but I see a human side to you. Oh Mercy Nurse!! That is good. You got to my cold and dead heart, that is from being around real estate so much. My favorite part about real estate is kicking out tenants 2 two days before Christmas, but you might have made me have a change of heart. Thank you for letting me have a tender spot once again.
Enough of this, it is time to hate ugly again, but not so much you. LOL..

          • My bruin, I am. Thank you for recognizing this. May God Bless you and your family always and forever

          • Nyc, I enjoy conversing with on a level headed way because you talk or write in a reasonable manner. That is why I won’t deride u like others. Take care

          • I’m Catholic. Always have and always will. Christ is our Savior, plain and simple

          • if the Cadre can turn one Scrooge away from the dark side, my 90,000 comments were worth it!

you are dead on, we can’t take this kids’ stuff too seriously! (of course the ones who take themselves too serious around here are what makes this blog such a hoot!)

            #They’reNotGettingTheJoke

          • Charlie, tell u what, I will write to u in a respectful manner. No more of the stuff I pulled with u previously. U seem like a decent guy. For squatter, there is hell to pay for. Charlie until next time

          • Bucket, You can’t consider the day care kids that your wife babysits as “employees”. Nice try however.

  8. $15 up front, $11 yearly not including the $7.5 in aperral and the $2 that will go towards the Morgan and Acosta complex.. .100% guaranteed, info on the house… keep looking up Sam “look it at me.. look at me I plays #foosball”

        #$280Million

        • Sure.

“I hear 2 possible destinations but I’m not at liberty to say”

          That’s because that’s all BS.

          KEEP TRYING

          • Ok Spankster, you take that win, UCLA will take the $280 million.

bozo u only got $20 mil from Arnie. Nike contributed a John Mckay statue featuring Nike brand shoes.

Maybe Nike can make Mr. Peete a new suitcase.

  10. Are we sure it is not UCLA paying UA 280 million to try and make powder blue look tough? Looks like Rosen is on board with the funds. Mora might have been right when he told Rosen to be careful about turning into Johnny Football.

  11. “Tua is a bozo u lock” – Spanky Bang-Bang.

Spanky what recruit is the next 2017 bozo u FB commitment lock?

  12. Maybe Lynn Swann can work out a deal and get us a real blogger.
Who is responsible for working out this chummy deal with our current blogger?

  13. Ley’s hope the “new” unis from UA aren’t such an eyesore as the junk that came from Adidas.
