It Could Be Worse For Basketball

DEROZANRemember in 2009 when USC had four players leave school that still had eligibility: Taj Gibson, Daniel Hackett, DeMar DeRozan and Marcus Johnson. That team could have been a Final Four participant in some observers’ eyes, especially when you add five recruits that never showed up: Derrick Williams, Renardo Sidney, Noel Johnson, Solomon Hill and Lamont Jones.

But that was different because athletic director Mike Garrett pretty much nuked the basketball program by releasing recruits from their letter-of-intents and treating Coach Tim Floyd abysmally.

One of my favorite stories is when Garrett called Floyd during his daughter’s wedding and demanded Floyd, “get your ass back to Los Angeles, so I can decide what I’m going to do with you.” Floyd told Garrett what he could do with that request.

  1. Just some made up story by the leader of the Trolls. The last time SW was privy to a real conversation with a coach was in his dreams.

    • Mushy, I think it’s clear that you’re clueless. I’m thinking you’re 86’s gofer.

    • Petey got along with wolfman fine. it’s the small, thin-skinned, tin-pot coaches and HH desk jockeys who TREMBLE at mere SIGHT of the wolfman.

  2. Egos. How many wars, murders, and loss of jobs have been caused by illogically and unreasonably exercising one’s ego?
Thank the Lord we don’t have that problem on this blog with all of our SC and SUCLA posters.

  3. One of my favorite stories would involve this site getting a real USC beat writer, with real sources, with real breaking news about USC. This site is a sham, “Insidesocal”?! It should be called “InsidePettyBeatWriters”…

  4. Wolf is the way and the light at the end of the SoCal tunnel. He speaks the truth and it hurts some. So be it.
    Garrett is a troll.

  5. It couldn’t be any worse for Art Briles formerly HC @ Baylor. There was that incident last year when a Baylor player was accused of sexual assault – the very same player that had been thrown out of Boise St. for the same crime when Chris Petersen was the HC there. After the player was arrested at Baylor Briles claimed he knew nothing about it and put the blame on Boise St. which made Petersen, now w. WA, livid at Briles’ claim i.e. “We had no idea.”

Papadakis stated he’d been to Waco a few times over the years and all he ever heard was how great Briles was but that he (Petros) sensed something was weird i.e. “He (Briles) bluntly stated ‘Guys that play for me have to be crazy!’ and that was what he wanted and it’s no surprise this mess happened because no one was able to willing to confront Briles.”

  6. This website could wind up giving “Days of our Lives” a run for its money in soap opera drama.
