USC Morning Buzz: Recruiting Goes Down Under For Linemen

TWIN.TOWERSUSC is recruiting two offensive linemen from Melbourne, Australia, including one who is 6-foot-10. The Trojans are looking at 16-year-old Daniel ‘Baby Shaq’ Faalele, who is 6-10 and 17-year-old Eneasi Kavapalu (6-7).

But USC is hardly alone as Penn State and Michigan are among the schools also recruiting the pair. And Michigan might be the leader when you consider the Wolverines will have a satellite camp in Melbourne on June 3.

If you want to see something crazy, look at Michigan’s satellite camp tour dates. If USC only had not lost player personnel director Austin Thomas . . .

  1. I remember when top offensive linemen would come knocking on USC’s door , but everything changed after Ted Tollner. took over, and they abandoned the run game.

        • Per the San Diego Union: Ted Tollner
1983-86: USC head coach had 26-20-1 record. Three bowl berths from 1984-86. Beat Ohio State in Rose Bowl, 20-17, on Jan. 1, 1985. His staff included future NFL head coaches Norv Turner, Dave Wannstedt and Steve Mariucci…. Turner was OC in 1984.

          • Wow! I had no idea, and I actually have the program from that Rose Bowl. .lol

    • Well you can put that on John Robinson bailing out for the Rams after he promised he’d stay through the ‘paper writers scandal’…shades of another great HC back in 2010.

  2. It’s clear that Michigan’s staff does more work in one day than the blogger does all week…

    • And you are the hardest working Chewy at the Comic Con Conventions, Gollom-Wolf

    • tell me the last date the blogger did not publish at least one post….including holidays. i’ve been on this blog for 15-20 yrs and i don’t EVER recall ONE such day.

      #I’mTotallyWaiting

      • Michigan’s staff has a goal in mind, while Wolf is just rambling on with irrelevant posts that have no ‘Inside’ info.

      • I don’t agree with half of Scott’s ‘deductions’ —-but, you’re right, Charlie —we gotta give the devil his due. Day in and day out, Scott keeps it going. Sometimes it’s pure nonsense (and he knows it) and sometimes he’s actually letting us in on some fairly seasoned impressions and opinions. I’ll take that –not so much as a substitute for the straight analysis of a Phil Steele —but as a sometimes frustrating, sometimes enjoyable supplement.

        • wolfman has some fun with the hard-core fanatics….but really, why NOT have fun with humorless hard-core fanatics?? but it sure doesn’t seem to repel any of them, some have been complaining literally for years!

          • Gotta admit, Charlie, that Scott has become the man a lot of Trojans seem to love to hate —-but it’s my guess almost all us would miss him if he got to the point he didn’t “publish at least one post a day.”

    • And it’s clearer you spend all your time watching grass grow in Midway City.

  3. One of the top marketing companies in the world is located in Santa Monica with the appropriate name of “72 and Sunny”. In other words, it is easier to market anything in Southern California due to the weather which markets itself. But it is also the demography. Michigan has to go to Samoa to find Samoans; USC has a vibrant Samoan community in California already. Soon it will have extended networks to African born athletes like Oluwole Betiku. It remains to be seen if these “camps” will divert attention of Michigan’s football staff from the important job of coaching.

  4. Hilarious, the SS bozo u FB program has sunk up to the gunwales. I mean why would bozo u consider recruiting large, inexperienced foreign O/L’men when so many 1 & 2 star experienced O/L’men are available in the states.

  5. Well Harbaugh wears his welcome out about 4 years in not to say he isn’t a great coach (look at the 49ers’ since his departure) but he is impossible to work with.

MI is definitely on the rise but one wonders if it won’t be, in the end, another version of Baylor

  6. Maybe #ClownU will have a baby Joey jump through a ring of fire at half time… .

    #Lol

  7. Harbaugh usually last about 4 years wherever he goes. He said it himself onetime on a TV interview. He said that “after 4 years the administration let’s me know that I have worn out my welcome”. This is why. He works his staff and players to the bone and makes unacceptable demands of the administration. The hard work pays off and he usually has a couple of great years and then it is time to leave and check out the green grass on the other side of the next hill.

  8. I’ll admit it, we are kinda in between right now, stablizing w a coach whose best attribute is, it seems, being stable. So some of the more aggressive, inventive stuff or even having a guy with charisma and a great leadership profile like PC is just going to be something we do without for a while. Eventually our coach may become more, or we will be able to move on. But SC being SC does a lot of the work in the absence of what we might like to see. Michigan otoh, needs Harbaugh to make up for what a Rustbelt U lacks.

  9. Australians are the only culture that has over 30 ways to say “vomit”
    Those Aussies can DRINK.
No wonder SoCal is on their radar.
    I can’t believe Sark didn’t recruit them.
