A Question On Alternate Uniforms

As I continue to answer reader questions, here is one on whether USC will wear an alternate uniform.

With the recent appointment of a new Board of Trustees member with close Nike ties, do you have any info on how this will impact the USC uniform debate (no change to traditional unis vs. all-black/crazy combos/alternate unis)? I’ve heard of some of the Nike desperation to get USC to succumb to their uniform suggestions and would appreciate any info on the behind the scenes tug of war.

For the record, I am vehemently opposed to Nike tinkering with the football unis. Nike should never have a say in what uniform combo the Trojans should take the field in.

Championship tradition over selfish corporate greed!

A: Nike has routinely sent renderings of alternate uniforms because it wants them. So did Lane Kiffin but frankly it was axed when readers of this blog rebelled. Steve Sarkisian planned an all-white uniform for this season. But I’ve been told by the athletic dept. that there will be no alternate uniforms this season. And not even shiny helmets this season. Clay Helton does not seem the type who wants to wear an alternate uniform, thankfully.

Unfortunately, it’s an issue that will always need to be monitored closely because you never know when someone will get a bright idea to wear another uniform.

  3. Why not be what the rest of FBS has chosen not to be – in particular ‘The Princess’ they’ve had their ‘navy blue’,’white’,’green’ jersies they ‘know’ they never ever should have done it. They so regret it i.e. they’re no different than ucla.

  4. Nike and UA have a standard uniform agreement with those they partner with.. Which increases the value of the brand partnership.. USC’s brand partnership would have topped the recent agreement Ucla signed, but choose to keep it traditional..Besides USC doesn’t lack funds like State run schools.. and 100 uniforms don’t win championships.. USC is its own brand ..no need to change!

  5. wolfman, the SAME jokers who now say NO NEVER!! were LOVING the christmas bulb helmets, white socks, the weird “sweaty” unis from last year, you NAME IT!!

    lets face it, the current colors look like something out a pimp’s closet from the 70’s!!! all they need are leopard-print football pants!!!

    and quite honestly, these phony trOXans would LOVE an updated uni, if only Southern Cal had the guts to find one that dint have Burgundy and gold!!!

    • If you didn’t spend so much time here You might have watched Some Bruin games lately and noticed how horrible their uniforms were.

        • The only reason UCLA will never wear All WHITE uniforms ever again is not because USC EMBARRASSED every Bruin from here to Hong Kong that night by beating them 50-0. No. It’s not that at all. The players said the all white stains a lot more easily than the traditional powder and blue, and they’d prefer to be “pretty and clean” while on the football field. So win or lose that game, we got their uniforms dirty and they’re now ruined!

  7. Weak schools need to market themselves by changing uniforms throughout the season. So since USC has been playing soft the last 5 years, maybe they feel the need to do so, too

    • Soft? The NCAA tried to cripple the school and football program. Ucla and other Pac12 schools would have folded their programs. USC is second to Stanford in wins over the past tens seasons.. Ucla won what 75 games, while USC and Stanford rolled with 90 and 92 respectively ..
