More Awful USC Kickoff Times

Do USC games ever start at normal times? Four games have been announced today. As I mentioned, Utah State at the Coliseum is at 11 a.m. Talk about a low-energy start time. It is the earliest kickoff time for a Trojan home game since at least the early 1950s when complete records became available (a home contest against Loyola in the 1891 season began at 9:30 a.m.).

USC plays at Stanford on Sept. 17 at  5 p.m. PT on ABC. USC plays at Utah on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) on FS1. USC hosts California on Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. PT. That is yet another weekday home game at the Coliseum. Very fan friendly!

  1. seems like Southern Cal gets NO RESPECT from Larry Scott, wolfman!!

do you think Alabammy has these problems?? NO! they pick their own start times, not the other way around!!

i just hope the Pac 12 doesn’t hire George Atkinson!!!

  2. I wish we did a Thursday night home game every year. Great excuse to cut out of work early, head downtown & set up the tailgate.

  3. Mo money, mo problems…. But let’s get real, Scottie. You complain about USC’s perceived lack of toughness, and we’ve got the beat reporter whining about kickoff times? Trojans should be able to play at 3 in the morning and on the moon if we need to. That’s toughness!

    • i can’t agree with your criticism of the wolfman, but the rest of your comment is a bulleye! the notion Pac12 teams can’t play early (or late) games drives me batty! if a team comes out flat, it’s not because of the clock!

      • I’ll side with you in defending Scott on this one, Charlie (after all, he’s really not worried about the kickoff times per se, he’s just using them to trash Larry Scott —always a good thing in my book). But “the rest of the comment is a bullseye!” (?!!) I’m very pessimistic about USC prevailing in a game played on the lunar surface —-they’ve had their share of trouble adjusting to conditions in Utah! (Wait a second. This is about seeing Adoree jump 26 feet, isn’t it)?

    • With the Larry Scott era of television overruling fans, I expect your prediction to be correct and one day SC will be the early morning 6AM EST football game on ESPN.

  4. Timing is everything with a stadium where the sun sets in the eyes of a receiver. The time of day can change the outcome of a play.
Thursday night games in LA are the worst. But takes two teams to play a game. If both schools said no to a schedule what could the commissioner do?

    • Larry Scott is doing exactly what the Pac 12 ADs want. These educrats don’t care a bleep about the fans.

  5. Larry Scott has screwed the fans again. Hopefully Swanny will get involved more than some other passive ex-AD.
