USC Picture Of The Day

USC.OREGON.STATE.1968Today is Al Cowlings’ 69th birthday. Ironic since he is a prime figure in ESPN’s O.J. Simpson documentary. Who knew O.J. stole Cowlings’ girl friend in high school and eventually married her?

Here’s an interesting photo of the 1968 USC-Oregon State game. Some of the players are Sandy Durko (76), Joe Obemma (34), Jim Snow (55), Jimmy Gunn (83), Cowlings (72), Bubba Scott (71) and Bob Jensen (51).

  1. For the love of the English language, how is having your birthday while being part of a documentary that is airing on ESPN ironic? Timely? Sure. Coincidental? Yup. Ironic? Even Alanis Morissette didn’t screw up that bad. Scott Wolf does not “have the best words”.

  2. Both Jimmy Gunn and Bubba Scott of the “Wild Bunch” have passed away along with Tody Smith not pictured. On a brighter
note does anyone know when the Salute To Troy event in August
is happening? Thanks for any heads-up.

        • OH you mean ‘Poppin Fresh’?

Let’s poke his tummy and watch him giggle…he’s good at giggling

          • Hmm squeezing Poppin Fresh is what Cousin Bill Klintonska does….squeezing Poppin Fresh….(snicker) look at him crying…ahhh poor Poppin Fresh

      • Isn’t Salute to Troy that cocktail party Sark threw last year?
What UCLA has is 10 John Wooden National Championships. No need for cocktail parties because Coach didn’t drink.

  3. Interesting picture shows those huge shoulder pads that inspired the iconic look of the 80s. Ironic to iconic hmmm….

  4. Wait, this guy was OJ’s BFF after this but he won’t talk to Marcus Allen because he banged OJ’s ex? I realize a HS relationship is different from a marriage but still kinda weird.

  5. USC will never be Yesterday’s U. USC’s 1967 season and USC’s 1968 17-13 victory over a quality OSU team are still fresh in my memory. So are O. J’s Heisman Trophy, O. J’s First Round First Selection in the NFL Draft, and of course, USC’s 1967 NCAA Football National Championship (AP, FWAA, NFF, UPI). Eight Trojans on the 1968 team were drafted by the NFL TE Bob Klein was a First Round 21st pick. UCLA…….. no where to be found. The USC Trojans OWNED LA then, just as we OWN LA today. FIGHT ON !!!
