Charity Begins At Home

HADENPat Haden’s image takes another beating today after this story in the Los Angeles Times details he and family members collected $2.4 million from a foundation for working as little as one hour per week from 1999-2014. Half of it, $1.2 million, went to Haden. Working . . . hard.

  1. I saw the quote he gave the Times when queried about the outlay he and his daughter and daughter-in-law received and he threw it over to Wells Fargo.

I’d say this is not going to end well for Haden – this is another in a seemingly endless trapdoors opening beneath him at a time in life when one is looking for a legacy.

The money received by the three stayed the same as the donations dropped.

  2. I have heard that Haden is worth millions. He should cut a check and apologize.
His excuse that they gave us the money doesn’t hold water. He could spend as much in donations and still look like a greedy schlub.

    • At a minimum he’d be wise to reimburse his sisters and daughter-in-law ‘salaries’ as to his own – man the final paragraph – just what exactly did Pat Haden give annually to this fund?

This the same individual who ‘took a stand’ against the state of IN re. the state legislature specific GLBT. Typical lib – all mouth as long as it doesn’t cost anything personally.

    • As an alum, I hate seeing stuff like this.. Thank god it has nothing to do with USC.. but enough is enough .. send Haden packing.. Im connected to several 501(c)3’s.. via USC alums and I don’t get one dime.. No reason to.. Haden continues to tarnish his legacy.. Dumb #86

      • Amen –

BTW why is Tim Tessalone saying anything? This mess is Haden and has nothing to do with the school except that Haden’s mess is ours – just why is Tessalone involed in this?

Tessalone ought to be sacked as Haden leaves i.e. he obviously is Haden’s ‘flunkie’ running inteference for Haden..

Tessalone should of told Haden to send his own E-mail.

        • I’m sure Haden is one of those guys that thinks Tessalone works for him for life because he’s Pat Haden

      • How do we know it has nothing to do with USC? What has this crook been up to in the USC Athletic Department if he is this corrupt? An audit is in order.

        • No I don’t think so …. with Haden it’s obviously always been about his sense of self-entitlement. His due…He’s earned the groveling by Trustees and now suddenly this blows up his back end.

Watch the cameras haunting Heritage Hall a week from Thursday. He can’t hide behind Tessalone forever.

          He really is through

      • Disproportional amount of schollies going to SC via Haden. Unfortunately, ol Patty Boy has brought SC’s name through the mud once again

    • Pat Haden has always thought he was the smartest guy in the room. The arrogance that this man has shown during his tenure as the A.D. of USC is astounding. To take money from a non-profit designed to help those in educational need, hire family members, and not dole out the appropriate monies for the mission of the non profit is simply detestable. To be perfectly honest, he has always been more concerned with his public perception/gain than doing what was right for USC. I saw the signs of this during his first year as A.D. when he stated during the Notre Dame week, “Notre Dame is the gold standard of college football.” He should have been fired on the spot for that comment. Hey Pat, if you love N.D. much, then go back and broadcast for them and stay the hell away from USC. He is the antithesis of the motto “Fight On”.

  3. You know the real impact is Haden’s association with USC going forward. Good luck trying to explain this mess especially as it rolls back on to the school even though there is no direct connection.

SAdly – this is career (Haden’s) that saw nothing but green lights from the time he entered USC to this year – no hurdles other than getting to know the ‘right’ people. One has to wonder what a real self-inflicted mess Haden now faces.

From the pinnacle to the trough – Oh how the might have fallen II Sam. 1:25

    • I read the article .. after seeing info on fb.. It sounds like NO LAWS were broken, the foundation paid him.. They messed up..

      • WEll now you’re talking ‘legalese’ – laws? Look the 3rd [parties they cited all; stated the money paid him and his two relatives was excessive at best.

The most telling item was maintaining the same payout when the foundation was shrinking.

Pure nepotism on Haden’s part – those salaries paid is immoral and worst of all the kids/schools that were to benefit got nuthin.

          • Perception is reality and the reality today is that Haden abused the trust of a foundation for his own kin.

That’s the mess here – not his money for his sister and daughter-in-law no – he took foundation money.

        • In fact the IRS can look to both Wells Fargo, and the Hadens if it determines that it’s excessive – and disgorge. Just because the trustee “approved” it doesn’t make it consistent with Trust Law or the Foundation’s mandate. In any event it’s scummy

  4. Does the blogger read what he posts, In the body of the article via the TIMES..it states NO LAWS were broken, The foundation paid him..Haden took the money and ran.. It still wrong though.. Thats just money being thrown away ..when the purpose clearly states it was for educational assistance.

      • LA Times article states Haden did NOT break any laws. SW (blogger) only shared what he thought was important.. ok…Does that answer your question ?

        • Either Blogger changed his initial post or you’re crazy. I see no mention of what you’re talking about.

        • Technically, neither did Richard Nixon. He was never convicted of breaking any law.

  5. This situation is extremely disappointing. It reads like another example of those with influence, power , prestige and privilege losing sight of what they initially set out to do. Their good works are undone by hubris & a sense of entitlement. Laws my not have been broken but the public trust has been betrayed. And trust is near impossible, if not impossible to earn back. This episode will be forever mentioned whenever PH is discussed. A self inflicted wound that did not need to happen.

    • Amen – well said!

In fact Haden is still ordering people around that or Tessalone is his ‘batman’

“‘Is your steak rare enough Mr. Haden? Some horseradish hmmm? “Why yes it is Tim and BTW I just got a ‘headsup’ from the TImes…some ‘story’ re. my handling the (I forget the name) foundation … see to it TIm with the usual disclaimer. I’m going to the Nikias’ and you better make sure none of this blows back on me!” “Yes sir Mr. Haden.”

  6. The worst thing about this mess is it gives internet sports reporters a – holes like Pat For-day and Wetzy Wetzel something to rip against USC.

    • The real problem is that PH put himself and USC in this bad position. The press may stoke the fire but they are not the problem. The professional reporters will distinguish themselves & the bottom feeders will expose themselves. And whether one is a professional or a bottom feeder is often in the eye of the beholder.

    • Yeah, imbecile, THAT’S the worst thing about this mess, that the incompetent money grubbing gnome is being called for ripping off money aimed for poor school kids.

      • HI Poppin’ Fresh….come on white bread take a bite out of your arm……you’re such a white bread…where’d you go to school again?

      • Imagine, bagging a couple of million for your name on the Foundation Letterhead and no show responsibilities.

Nice wages if you can stand yourself.

        • since the morally bankrupt Haden doesn’t know what to do next, here’s the best advice he’ll get, no charge:

write a check, apologize and go away.

but much more likely he’ll do what trOXans always do: make lame excuses by the bushel.

          #ItsWhatTheyDo

  7. ugh, filling his already rich pockets with money aimed for poor school kids….Haden is a world-class POS.

fitting that he’s the AD for the most corrupt school in America.

to think i used to stick up for this evil little gnome.

    #TrulyDespicable

  8. The day after SC hired Haden I vividly remember Plashke/Simer writing an article about Haden that his saintliness would be better used as governer of CA. Oh, the Kool Aid we drink

  9. Lol..The trolls are working overtime..bypassing the block lockout feature by posing as others.. Nice try!

    • I don’t bother, I just block the boorish, obnoxious bozo fans.

I’m not surprised some bozo fans are defending “ST. PAT’s” mind numbing greed.

May I remind one particular loathsome alky bozo fan, Coach Wooden never made more 35 or 40k a year as the UCLA basketball head coach. Imagine, Coach Wooden looting a Scholastic Foundation for undeserved profit.

      • Mr. Wooden was getting his payday under the table, like his players, from Mr. G. Also, he really wasn’t worth much more.

        • Precisely my point. Mr. Wooden didn’t live in a hilltop mansion with plenty of service staff.

He lived alone in the same small cond for about 25 or 30 years. As far as I know, no retailer on Rodeo Dr. can claim Mr. Wooden ever purchased his baubles, trinkets and Rolexes with Sam’s illegal funding from them.

  10. I don’t know much about these allegations but I do know that he was one of the worst AD’s SC ever had. I always thought that he was a great fundraiser but it’s starting to look like the only fundraising he was good at was fundraising for him and his family. But I guess you can do that if you are clever enough to work your way into the good ole boys mutual admiration societies who run these funds. We have a group like that called the board of trustees at USC. Oh yes….Hadens on that too. If he hadn’t made one mistake, I might have been willing to put up with all the rest of his incompetence. But SC will regret the day he passed up on Chris Peterson for Sark and we will regret it for years to come.

    • Not sold on Peterson, not to say he won’t be good in the end.

The rest of your analysis is ‘spot on’ i.e. the good ole’ West 28th ‘frat boys’ network and yes with Nikias in charge the same is true with the trustees.

      • I don’t claim to be Nostradamus. I don’t have to be. The years ahead are going to prove me true or false. I still say we made a big mistake passing up on Peterson and not even pursuing Tom Hermon. CH is not the guy I would have hired. I must admit…..after seeing what he’s done so far, I’m impressed. Hopefully, we found a diamond in the rough with this guy.

        • Peterson is very threatened by media. FIve years ago BoIse St. was @ NV that famous OT loss. Sports casters made note of his comment about all ‘the media’ he had to deal with before the game which made them note “If he thinks this is a lot of media good luck going to a major program in a big market.”

I realize merely being adverse to dealing with the media isn’t a game breaker

WA lost to Boise St., CA, UT, AZ St., OR and Stanford – yes they defeated USC but I’d say that isn’t any better than CH. ‘but’ 3 losses were at home and as for 2016

They have three patsies all at home to begin the year – ID, Rutgers and Portland St., then @ AZ, Stanford and @ OR..

Herman is the choice for TX and everywhere else but Sumlin looked great coming out of A&M 4 years ago and his record has steadily declined every year since his great 1st year @ TX A&M.

          Let’s hope for a 3 – 1 September and then we shall rise ……

          • Your comment about Boise State versus Nevada and his complaints about the media is something I didn’t know. I always wondered where this idea that he couldn’t handle the media came from. We’ll see whether he can handle it or not because Seattle has a bunch of rabid fans who follow football(both college and pro) like they follow it in Eugene and down south. They follow it like a religion. That stadium is one of the hardest stadiums in the world to play in when you are not the home team. It’s probably one of the best when you are the home team. I, personally, don’t think that they will be 3-1 but I will agree on one thing…..If they are 3-1, this could be a really good season and the start of something great……sort of like the 2002 season. But 3-1 seems to be a lot to ask with this brutal schedule. If they can actually go 3-1, I don’t see any reason why they can’t go 4-0.

  11. I thought it was a pretty no news article. LA Times throws a big number out there (2.4) mil to get people taking. The fact this happened over 16-17 years makes this a non story. There are many who are paid way more than Haden got for doing less on non profit boards. It’s a hit piece and nothing more. I also like how they wrote that sometimes the work was as little as one hour per week…clearly don’t know or was too lazy to find out what a typical week was. At least he isn’t Clonton making 200K directly from a college for 45 min. What does that prorate out to over 17 years?

    • No the crook is Trump. Nothing is safer in Westwood if you are a woman. Hillary stands tall for equality for the under privileged in this country whether they know it or not. You sir are a fool whose vote is meaningless.

  12. Everyone hopped on the Pat bandwagon when he was hired. Penn State got their sanctions cut, Miami got nothing and he kept telling all of you “well, we couldn’t do anything…” to fight what the NCAA did to USC…meanwhile he was making seven figures and stayed longer than he should have because why would you leave when you are making easy money?
