USC College World Series Connection

Arizona has reached the championship series of the College World Series. The Wildcats’ pitching coach is Dave Lawn. He spent seven seasons as USC’s pitching coach under Mike Gillespie, where he coached Mark Prior and Ian Kennedy among others.

    • In fairness Prior’s career was cut short with achilles tendon surgery as to Kennedy, the # 1 draft pick, 2003, by the NYY didn’t end at all well.

      • I know all that, plus I enjoy the block feature.. lol.. I just never saw them as big time pitchers..

        • True but Prior did have that one magic year that almost got them to the 2003 WS.

          • A troll is blocked, but yes I played baseball at USC and was drafted and played in the A’s organization, blew up the shoulder then found out I had cancer, Have a good day!

          • Their hatred towards USC is so intense they now have to invent new ‘nomme de plumme’s ‘but’ that is what they hate i.e. I give you ‘Fred’…he’s gone as well….so delicious shutting them out.

          • Im fine Michael, I played for SC and in the Oakland organization over 30 years ago, live in So Cal and run a successful business.. Happy Sunday! The cancer is well gone. Thank god!

        • that’s because USC 55 never played in the majors I’m sure…so he has never seen big time pitchers…

          • Welcome to blockland – all your buddies are already roosting there so wishing some one would look at them and now you can join them jackass.

          • He is convinced Im some dude from Vegas.. All I did was my Masters at UNLV, I live in So Cal .. born and raised.. attended USC from 1984-86..

          • Nope you did your undergrad at Cow Poly, CowPolyFan3.0. You gave yourself away quickly this time with your reliably disgusting vulgar comments and your 10 years win record argument. You just can’t help yourself.

          • Alvarado, this is a bit late but I have not had access to the blog for awhile—I see comments about a blocking feature. How to I access it and hopefully lose a few of the less than enlightening commentators? Thanks

          • It’s actually very easy – slide your curser over to the right of the unwanted poster – you’ll see a ‘-‘ dash line and then to the immediate right a small inverted triangle – press the small triangle and you’ll be given the option of ‘banning’ the unwanted poster.

          • He’s CowPolyFan3.0, back after having been banned for threatening posters.

    • and yet USC 55 realizes that USC has not been on the map in the last decade…oh well….

  1. Keep in mind. More than any Pac 12 team in the conference USC Baseball commitments usually end up getting drafted and SC loses those kids to professional contracts. It happens everywhere, but not as much as at USC.

    • Yeah, it happened so much when Gillespie won it in 1998 and took USC to Omaha three out of four years.

      • Fred go put your Cavaliers or your Denver Broncos pajamas on and decide who you’ll be cheering for tomorrow.

        • Wow, Sam…are you bitter because baseball is in shambles? I’m going to go watch the Holiday Bowl and watch how well USC did. Hahahaha!

  2. yeah you are okay with that because USC hasn’t done anything in the last decade for football…or basketball… 🙂

  3. Sam…why do you keep comparing yourself and your program to the program across town? what happened to USC being a national power? oh that’s right…no one has cared the past decade about USC 🙂

    • Newsflash Fred. 1 decade, 2 or 3. USC will always be more feared and respected than Wimpwood.

      Truth hurts bruh.

  4. Not true anymore, but the Trojans lost many good players years ago when they were a lot more competitive. The pitching coaches lately with Tom House forward have not handled things well. Too many pitchers get hurt during their careers at USC. Head coaches of Kreuter, Cruz, and now Hubbs are not the answer. Need to get someone like the Coach at Coastal Carolina or from the South who have made college baseball a priority in this era. Cupboard will be almost bare for next season losing # of top seniors, and #1 starter Joe Navilhon a Jr. to draft plus another Jr. Martinez probably best catcher in the nation.
