Yesterdays news about commits and camps re other schools.
Any USC posters have current USC info/tips?
His family was originally from the Ohio area, that is the reason for the commitment there. He never considered Ucla, USC .No big deal..Wish him well.
Martell’s commitment doesn’t matter to us. Davis like you said was never really an option for either SC or UGLY. SW’S subscription to Scout must be limited.
I agree this OL class will be stellar. I lost track of the rising stars camp concerning 2017 recruits, saw more about 2018 on.
Know there were a lot of OL there. Any overview results? others ?including commits
Lots of big time OL in the 2017 class that are already committed. I wish I could remember their names. There was a 5-star OT who is committed to Auburn who didn’t even participate. So he went basically for the unofficial visit. I hear he had a good visit. And there were some kids on the DLINE and OL who are committed to Alabama that said they will return for an official visit so SC made some big impressions. I hear that the Auburn kid got the royal treatment. Also #1 DT Marvin Wilson (wasn’t in attendance) said USC is already penciled in for an Official Visit. And one last thing on 5-Star OT Austin Jackson. On the 247 website two of their “experts” put crystal balls over the weekend for SC. That sounds like either he told them he’s close to committing or he indicated he’s a silent verbal. He also was in attendance, but I don’t think he performed. But OT committed to Auburn, Austin Jackson, and RB Najee Harris were said to have gotten the VIP treatment over the two days. I’m still predicting that Harris will be a Trojan.
Thanks Buddy!! I think Coach Galloway’s rep and southern history is a big part of the draw.Tee and Tyson also.I continue to hear we are still trying to get another Blue shirt DL from JC.Qualifying is the issue as usual. What 60+ days and counting down.?
That would help. The DLINE transfer we got from Utah counts to this year’s class. I like our team. Only question mark is the DLine..
Here’s the smart move. The DL grad transfer has one year., 2017 we will be at 85 and will have 24 open. Because he’s 1 yr.he’s a freebee.
And I didn’t get to read up on it, but this 2017 5-Star CB who’s commited to Ohio State says he’s got big interest in USC and we’re gonna get an official visit. A couple of SC sites are on this one so it sounds legit for him.
5 * Wade, who’s from Jacksonville Fl…Our super recruiter is busy with him…
Bingo! Yeah him. Man that would be awesome to steal him away from OSU.
Coaches selling him on stepping in following Jackson. Kid is also a big JuJu fan.
We usually score big in Florida yearly or every other year. His recruitment should be interesting.
Salua Masina the younger brother of Osa Masina earned MVP honors at LB also.
What no outrage from Guerrero aka Mora on allowing this to happen?
The Facecupper’s are about to lose two kids from the 17 class.. Something is going on there behind closed doors.
Detail please! It’s so refreshing when ucla reverts to what it is – a lower division football program.
Echols is a deco, and a the other is expected to say bye bye..They only have 3 ..
I hope SC can swoop in on Echols. Notre Dame is going hard for him. We need an End like him.
What, are you subscribing to Helen the Hirsute prognostication service?
Don’t forget 55, Helen predicted B. Dixon would be reinstated in bozo’s u FB program.
BTW, did you see the “Rose Bowl,” once again, was voted the best CFB venue?
The crumbling Mausoleum didn’t crack the top 100. Apparently, the Mausoleum’s free ranging wino and rodent population was a real voter turnoff.
You expect CowPolyFan3.0 to know anything about USC and UCLA recruiting? He’s a Mustang!
Why Adrian Klemm is still on the coaching staff is a mystery.
Maybe, but nothing like 6 bozo u HFBC’s in 4 years (Kiffy, O (I), Helton (I), Sark the Magnificent, Helton (I) and Helton for real). bozo u has earned its moniker.
SC has to start winning more. They are not there yet. If you are going to challenge for the NC, you just can’t let schools like Ohio State come into your backyard and steal players like Wyatt Davis. I don’t agree that they didn’t have a chance with him. I still think they have a chance. They should continue to pursue him. A lot will depend upon what kind of season they have this year.
Wasn’t stolen, the kid was already 100% an OSU commitment., his coach said, he will be surrounded by family and his grandparents.. No one had a chance.. Regardless of wins by USC who avged 9 over a decade..
9 wins is all right but not for SC. Not considering that with the bowl and the conference playoff, they play 14. 9-5 is mediocre for a team with USC’s talent and tradition. If SC was challenging for the NC(and they should be), I don’t think Wyatt Davis is going back to hot humid in the summer and freezing in the winter, Ohio, regardless of what family he might have back there.
In the same time frame Ucla avgd 7 over the same 10 seasons.. I see good things happening at SC . Its a cycle, kids follow winning programs.. USC is still in the top 4 in deciding where they wish commit..
I don’t like going back 10 years. You can have a program that is going in the wrong direction and still make it look good if you go back far enough, especially if they have tradition. It’s what’s happened lately that counts. Oregon has won 89 games in the last 8 years under 3 different coaches. Stanford has won 66 games in the last 6 years under 2 different coaches. That’s over 11 wins a year. You might say “but SC was on probation”. I don’t care. The negative about probation is that it will hurt your recruiting. But every year they rate the recruiting classes. SC has been #1 in the Pac-12 every year since 2003 and maybe earlier. Probation or not, they are still getting the best players. If they are getting better players than Oregon and Stanford, then why do Oregon and Stanford have better records recently and why have they beaten SC most of the times that they have played them in the recent past? I’ve heard all the praise about what a great guy Clay Helton is and what a great coach he is and I must admit that I like a lot of the things that he is doing since he’s been there. But you can talk all you want but until you start to win big, a lot of those great players are going to go elsewhere. I’m a big SC fan so I hope you’re right about “good things happening”. Let’s wait and see.
I agree on all, once USC starts to dominate as they had.. The right mix of kids will see that and want to play for USC ..Too much drama, yet USC produces nfl players..and they will continue that trend..
Clay Helton is definitely not the guy I would have hired but I must admit, I like a lot of the things that he is doing. Sometimes, hiring an assistant does work out….ala…..Dabo Sweeney, David Shaw, Bob Stoopes, John McKay, John Robinson, Gary Patterson, Kyle Whittingham and many more. But you’re always taking a chance. The question is(as ‘Dirty Harry’ once said)….”do you feel lucky”? We’ll know in a couple of years.
USC lost 30 players to probation. That’s an undeniable fact and not some fairy tale – and many of those kids went to USC’s direct competitors. Any recruiting services that said USC had the best Pac-12 class every year since 2003 are either filled with idiots, doesn’t know how to count, doesn’t know how to evaluate or is intentionally rigging its rankings. It doesn’t take a moron to see that if you lose a whopping 30 scholarship kids, some of whom would have been great, you’re gonna be hurt and you’re not always gonna have the best talent.
I’m not saying that it didn’t hurt. It did. All I’m saying is that they were still getting the best players. That just shows how badly SC was dominating the Pac-12 once PC brought them back to prominence. It’s not some of the recruiting services that were rating them the best, it was all of them. Whether it’s Scout, Rivals, 247 Sports, ESPN, Max Prep…..they were all rating them the best every year(in the Pac-12). Oregon doesn’t really recruit very well at all. They can’t all be idiots.
Wrong. USC did not always get the best players in the Pac-12 since 2003. USC’s own coaches didn’t even think they had the best players. Fact. I was very well connected with some of USC’s best recruiters, including both Kiffin and Orgeron. Both acknowledged holes on their team they couldn’t really fix because of numbers and talent problems.
The recruiting services are wrong all the time and have over-ranked USC for various reasons many times. Half the people involved with these sites would be slinging hamburgers if they couldn’t survive by recycling very average talent evaluations over and over.
USC has not been coached well since Carroll. But they’ve also had some major talent gaps, and very uneven talent distribution, that are directly the result of NCAA sanctions.
But since you think that USC still definitely had the most talent even though they lost 30 rides in three years, when would the scholie restrictions have finally begun to hurt – the loss of 40 rides? How about 50?
I told you….I admit that it hurt. Asking me when it would begin to hurt is a ‘straw man’ argument. I agree that it hurt at 30. I’m just saying that I still think that they were getting the best athletes. Gerard Martinez flipping hamburgers?…..I don’t think so! You asked me how many rides they would have to lose before I thought it would begin to hurt. Let me ask you…..how many more 8 or 9 win seasons do they have to have before you start to think that we might have a problem here?
To each his own. I’ll believe what Kiffin and Orgeron told me directly. They knew a lot more about USC’s talent and the probation’s true effects than you or Martinez ever did or will.
Everybody knows USC has had bad coaching since Carroll. I already mentioned that but it just went over your head.
Hopefully, things will change in the future. We’ll see.
It is difficult to have the practices when you do not have enough players on your roster. The same goes for the season. You have injuries and are forced to play kids that may not be as ready as others. That goes for 5 star players as well.
That takes its toll as the season goes on.
Good solid depth and good coaching will develop these players where you end up plugging in players that develop much faster and reload with recruiting.
I remember in 2010 when Lane Kiffen didn’t really have enough scholarship players to run a practice because he only had about 6-7 scholarship players on the offensive line. You need 10 to get a 1st and 2nd string. He filled in the rest with walk-ons. Yet, He was 8-5 in 2010 and he lost 3 games in the last seconds. He could have been 11-2. Then in 2011 he was 10-2. What happened in 2012, I’m still trying to figure out because he had almost everyone coming back from that 10-2 team. I think that they have pretty good depth right now so there should really be no excuses except a rough schedule(and it is brutal). Let’s hope for the best.
I wondered the same thing.
Kiffin came in with a hell of a staff.
They had some solid players from Carroll’s last years and recruited well also. I think Kiffin should have had an O.C. to run the offense. Monte’s scheme was also difficult for the players to grasp.
Anyways, I agree with you.
Hoping for the best also.
Monte definitely hurt him and they did really need a better O-line coach. James Cregg had only actually coached the O-line about 4-5 years. He coached the D-line a few years before that but he wasn’t really an experienced coach.
Stanford and Oregon have won because they know who they are, what they want to do and they recruit accordingly.
Hopefully we’ll start doing the same. I’ve said a number of times that I do believe that the sanctions have hurt us but you can’t use that excuse forever.
CowPolyFan3.0 always uses the ten year ruin win record to justify the underachieving at SC under the last 5 head coaches. You are rigfht, SC had the most talent and in 2011 loaded up with 31 recruits befor the scholarship limits hit in 2012, the year USC was preseason #1 and ended up 7-6 and losing the Sun Bowl.
Pat Haden hasn’t even been there 10 years.
Well that sucks Columbus, Ohio has nothing to offer……..
The kid has family there.. Thats what matters most, I gather .. Family comes first.
Here’s the hard pill to swallow for those of you looking for new news. The newspaper that employs SW owns all of the newspapers available in the inland empire and Orange County. You cannot escape these papers now called the L.A. newsgroup.
So if you want news it’s the same everywhere.
Good thing I stopped buying the Riverside Press Enterprise years ago. I only buy the LA Times and The Enterprise after a USC win. So far no signs of SW.
He shows up in the Press and OC Register. I have seen his writing several times since the sale of the paper.
Those poor newspapers. I imagine a lot of subscribers have stopped paying. Or maybe people want to see what will come out of his mouth next like TJ Simers during his LA Times days.
The reason I pay for this site is because of people like yourself
