  1. I know Washington will be probably be one of the top 2 teams in the Pac 12, but a #8 rank is kinda high.

    • For what it’s worth Athalon has USC winning the conference and ESPN the Magazine’s College Football Peview has USC in the top 10 and winning the conference.

  2. No reason to go to games this year. Phil’s top 25 makes it all so clear. USC can’t win the conference (Washington is 17 ranking points ahead of us). We can’t even take the Pac 12 South (UCLA is 10 ranking points ahead of us).
The bright side? If we play in the Holiday Bowl again, we will beat Wisconsin (they aren’t even in the top 25).

      • Its a slam on the Pac12.. Ucla will fizzle out as usual and the others are still on training wheels. USC is right where they belong, no reason to panic..

Sam, The late night commit, is apparently announcing his decision tomorrow..

          • Your schedule is brutal this year Sam. SC will have to play at a much higher level.

Phil Steele has no more idea than the rest of us.

          • True. USC will know what they’re made of early on. September games against Bama, Utah St (can’t look past the Aggies), @Stanford, and @Utah. Tough month to start the season, but I can’t wait!

PS. Me and my buddies are all gonna hit the road for the Utah game. But if the first 3 games go bad it’s off.

          • If it goes bad, drive out of Logan through Logan Canyon into Wyoming for some fly fishing. Also, Cache Valley has some nice cheeses if the ghost of Merlin Olsen returns to haunt the Trojans.

          • One of my pals has his mind set on finding the rivers or lakes (not sure) from the movie point break when they all were sky diving. His dad just bought a brand new RV and mentioned he wanted to get in some fishing. It’s a guy trip so who knows what will happen. But we all agreed it’s only gonna happen if we play well the first 3 games. I hope we make the trip, but only if the Trojans are worthy enough for it. I hope we play good in the first month.

      • Phil’s whole top 25 is particularly nuts this year, Sam. (I think he’s overreacting to getting stuff so wrong last year —like those kickers who push it wide right on the first attempt, then push it wide left on the next)…..

        • He went big with SC the last two years. You are right. Now he almost looks a bit foolish because he has us lower and everyone else has us higher. But we just have to play ball and redeem ourselves.

          • You got that right, Sam— All that matters is what the scoreboard sez every Saturday beginning in September—-not what’s on page 50 of Volume 22 of Phil Steele’s College Football Preview. (It sure didn’t mean anything the last 2 years….).

  3. Someone must be expecting a huge turnaround for Chris Peterson. But I have pointed out these predictions and a 5 dollar bill will get you a cup of coffee. I only buy the magazines that predict a good year for USC and then I have a nice make believe story to read when we flounder.

  4. The poll is just another indicator of of how this school’s relevancy continues to decline.

    • Slight amendment to that sentence, Bernie, and we’re good to go — “another indicator of how Phil Steele’s relevancy continues to decline..”

  5. Are these point spreads also by Phil Steele? I don’t understand why he is mixing Steele’s poll with point spreads.
