In 1984, USC defeated Tennessee, 72-61, at Pauley Pavilion in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game. The Tennessee coach was Pat Summitt. It was USC’s second straight title and the last won claimed by the Trojans. The above photo was taken by USC graduate Peter Read Miller, a well-known photographer for Sports Illustrated.
And, Mr. Jenkins will add, in August of that same year, Trojan All-Americans Cheryl Miller and Pam McGee helped lead the Pat Summit-coached U.S. Olympic team to gold at the L.A. Games.
