PRESEASON.POLL

The above chart combines 11 different preseason polls and shows USC’s average ranking is No. 19.  Just click on the chart to blow it up and see the results yourself. Naturally, Alabama is No. 1. Stanford is No. 11. Washington No. 17. Oregon No. 22 and UCLA No. 25. Notre Dame is No. 9.

That means USC plays six teams in the preseason Top 25! And only two of those games are at the Coliseum. Plus, Washington State finished No. 28 and Utah No. 36.

  1. Today is Haden’s last day as ‘AD’….wonder what kind of ‘cake’ will be provided?

As to the polls it isn’t easy figuring who is where save for the top five or so and good luck for bel-air tech up @ WA St.

  2. It will be a cake and door party! Good Bye, Good Luck, God Bless and Good Riddance.

  3. Our current heading is 295 degrees at 14 knots. It’s a beautiful warm day with a very blue sky overhead. We have been blessed by having the sun, sea and wind at our backs since weighing anchor a few hours ago. We may ask the Captain to slow to 5 or 6 knots so we can troll for an hour or so, but early morning is a much better time. At the moment Sally, Tiffany and the Countess are looking for a fourth for bridge on the aft deck where Stu and Sally’s fiance are doing a little buying and selling for their portfolios. I’m an average bridge player, but It’s really challenging to concentrate on the cards when playing bridge with three gorgeous women wearing bikinis, and another distraction is they always carry on a stimulating conversation while playing.

  4. Is Mr. Wolf going to have a poll asking who was the better AD? Mr. Haden or Mr. Garrett? Maybe tomorrow.

  5. Will finding out USC averages 19th in preseason polls really give anyone a buzz?

  6. So Wolfie complains if we schedule a Utah State or Idaho as one of our out-of-conference games, but he brings up the fact that USC plays 6 teams in the preseason Top 25. Look, USC has a pretty tough schedule, I don’t mind if they schedule a cupcake now and then, you can’t realistically schedule all Top 25 opponents and expect to win anything…

  7. If USC is as good as everybody thinks they are, then it makes no difference what their ranking is in the beginning of the season, because they will qualify for a major bowl if they win the Pac 12, right ? Personally, I think the Trojans are a year away, but don’t sleep on Chris Petersen, and his Washington program, because I think he’s going to build something special up there.

    • When you say” USC is as good as everybody thinks they are”.I think more people are realistic about our season. Its a tough one. Like you, I believe we are at least year away. But I’ve seen USC fans more realistic than years past.
If by chance we go through this schedule with only 3 losses
      It would be huge.

      • USC’s a total mystery team, exemplified by Zach Banner being suddenly touted as some big-time AA candidate when he’s been nothing but a giant mediocrity at USC while playing the easier tackle spot.

I think three regular season losses would be a very good outcome with all the new moving parts. Hopefully, Helton doesn’t need to take a time out before every big decision and he’s better prepared than in the past.

He’s done a lot of positive things since he was hired. I’m still hoping for a late juco DL transfer.

        • I think that much of Banners inconsistency/ under achieving before last year was due to injury. I think that once his hip problem was corrected he started to perform better & with more game experience he will continue to improve. If he improves on last years performance the O Line is one step closer to being solid

          • Hey I’m all-in on Banner. I just never saw any signs that he was an All-America player. Based on performance, there’s dozens ahead of him. Just seems like a gift to me because his dad is Lincoln Kennedy and he goes to USC. Hope he earns the label.

          • He’s a great run blocker, needs to improve on his pass blocking, but most of all needs to just reel in all the talking, play ball, and lead the OLINE. I actually think he’ll do just that.

          • Appears the OL is being well coached.
I trust we will see a big difference with
            game prep,and results

          • Me too. There’s been a lot of good feedback so far with Callaway and the group. I think they’ll be a strong point of the offense. We all forget that we played without Tuerk, Lobendahn and Wheeler. This group will be tough.

          • Hey bud, great holiday to you and family… The staff has been looking at OL that could play DL.I know spring ball they tried couple guys.Seems Khaliel Rodgers may stick. What do you think?

          • Same to you Pete. Rodgers got the most playing time of his career last season and was effective at times. I think you let him go hard at least the first two weeks of training camp with the OLINE and if it doesn’t work try him on the DL.

          • Rodgers has during player run practices played DL
Only, asked if that’s where he’ll play ,said he plans to remain
            there for summer at least.

          • When it’s all said and done whats best for the team is all that matters. If that means Rodgers playing DLINE then it’s what has to be done.

        • Yes… Certainly we have a lot of unknowns. How well will the staff
will come together prepare the players and coach games.? I’m
optimistic. Like many I have a support ,and wait and see attitude.
As you say,a lot of Positive things since the hire. It’s been done
fairly quietly, with results. My hope come practice and games,
results will come in form of a well coached team,in every game and
the victories to show. …..3 losses regular season would be huge step
forward…..I hear that a JUCO DL is still trying to clear, and will be end of July before we know…

  8. Wolfie is clearly not familiar with reading an Excel spreadsheet. We are actually ranked 18th. Based on Wolfie’s reading, “TEAM” is ranked #1 in the pre-season polls.

  9. Our season doesn’t hinge on any 1 specific game. But the best chance at beating an Alabama team is in the first game when we are both looking for an identity. If we can some how pull away with a win then who knows what it will do as a confidence boost for this team. Win or lose that game the season is a gauntlet, but going up to Stanford with a 2-0 record can energize a young team. I’m sure we’ll be fine offensively, and defensively we all hope Clancy Pendergast is the DC that will coach up our players properly, but we all know our young DLINE have to play tough for us to be competitive. I’m one who throws around rankings because it’s fun to debate these topics, but for us they don’t matter at all with the 1st month of the season that’s ahead of us. We might as well forget about them. If we win we’ll be rewarded with shooting up to the top.

  10. “That means USC plays six teams in the preseason Top 25! And only two of those games are at the Coliseum. Plus, Washington State finished No. 28 and Utah No. 36” ?

    AND… LOVING IT !!!

  11. Dude, you’ve really topped yourself this time. You can’t even read a chart correctly. USC, in fact, appears on the 19th row of this spreadsheet, which doesn’t quite match up with that pesky “rank” column.

I guess you’re big on “Team” winning it all this year, based mainly on your “can’t read a chart” analytics. Why didn’t that coaching search firm reach out to “Team”. Damn you Haden!!! How do you get so many basic things wrong and keep your job?
