Morning Buzz: Another Reminder Of USC’s Ultimate Reach

I sometimes tell USC administrators they could pave the campus streets in gold if they wanted to. Let’s look at the Board of Trustees. Today, it will be announced that UFC is being sold for $4 billion. Eighty percent of the UFC is owned by brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta. Frank Fertitta is a USC graduate and a member of the Board of Trustees. He will remain a minority investor in UFC.

This is why someone like Pat Haden should have no trouble raising money for the Coliseum renovation despite his shaky image regarding money.

Speaking of the Board of Trustees, I recently noticed former Dodgers co-owner Jamie McCourt is no longer a member. Her appointment in 2009 raised eyebrows with all the publicity surrounding her divorce and sale of the Dodgers.

But McCourt is still a trustee of sorts, as a “presidential trustee” for a fundraiser in Bel Air this week for Donald Trump. See below.MCCOURT

  1. Isn’t George Lucas a trustee? Isn’t he giving huge amounts to Klintonska Chevrolet?

Why not list all the progressive left wing advocates with bucks with ties to USC.

BTW any news on Haden repaying what he took?
    Why isn’t Haden gone?

    • Haden is the typical southern cal graduate! Own your own Alvarado! McCourt, Haden and both OJs are the undeniable representation of southern cal!

  2. I heard the cadre bought an entire table for the Trump fundraiser. Next thing you know they will be wearing USC colors.

  3. The Boeckmann’s who own Galpin Ford in the SFV have lost my respect supporting Trump. Not all Trojans are likeable especially in politics. Not going to buy a Ford in any case. Even Swann ran as a Republican for Governor of PA., and fortunately lost his bid.

  4. So, the point is??? I for one am shocked people vote their choice, that is the mantra is it not?? what? unless you don’t like their choice, even on a sports page we have to have politics, like espn, nfl, it used to be one of the places ,well never mind I guess if they make weather all about politics sports are now too…

  5. wolfman, i would never publicly give YOU blogging pointers, but shouldn’t the headline of your post have been…”Southern Cal is everywhere: the Drumpf Edition”??

but the Cadre will not persecute this ridiculous hater…not UNTIL he is named he official candidate for the GOP. i am not one to JINX anything wolfman, not when we’re so close. i still think Drumpf has Mike Tyson Syndrome, meaning he was trying to quit by getting “thrown out” by the biting the ear of the GOP, but probably to his SHOCK, no antics were “crazy” enough for his rabidly racist constituency! not the attacks on disabled, women, mexicans, muslims, jews or even pallin’ up to the KKK!!

on the bright side, wolfman, Nubsie finally found his dream candidate! you go, Nubsie, you pig-eyed anti-Dentite, you!!

  6. I suspect the blogger is a bernie supporter but will be whipped into voting for hitlery.

  7. It was either the Wall Street Journal or Investors Business Daily that did a study to identify the richest schools in the world(not just america). SC was #2 behind an Ivy League school that doesn’t even emphasize football. SC has the money. They need to spend some more on this football program since the football program brings more money back into SC than anything else. I still can’t help wondering whether there are some people high up who want to de-emphasize football at SC. Are you listening, Max?

    • It ain’t him but the moves Haden made sure have that bouquet of condescension and ‘I have a vision….’ idiocy.

BTW you might want to find that link – Stanford’s endowment alone is way larger than Troy’s – they own that mall and all of Palo Alto as the Irvine Ranch Co. owns all of the City of Irvine.

      • I don’t know. I just don’t have any inside info to be able to say dogmatically. I’m just going on what that Wall Street newspaper said. I assume they know what they are talking about. Maybe they don’t. But I do know one thing and that’s that SC has a lot of money. I personally don’t think that they spend the way the schools down south and some of the midwest schools spend. If you want to win big, you have to spend big. If you don’t, then you’re left with Dirty Harry’s plan to win a national championship. It’s called “do you feel lucky”. We were lucky when we hired Pete Carroll even though we didn’t offer him a lot of money at the start. But how long will it be before we get lucky again.

        • Hey pal there’s an awful lot of ‘I don’t know….I just don’t have…I assume…I personally don’t think….I know one thing.’ in your reply….a lot.

All program have hope the coach they just signed for 4 – 5 years isn’t a bust. ‘The Princess’ is entering their 28th year of mediocrity and they’ve got lots of money along with being a joke/fraud in not playing a CCG.

Finding a truly talented coach is not easy but you’d have to ask Haden how come his genius chose Sarkisian.

Time to give Helton a chance and I’d love to see Kiffin explain why his AL qb threw so many picks on the 3rd September.

          • I’m certainly willing to give Helton a chance and I do like almost everything that he’s done so far. I would have never hired him but they didn’t ask me for my opinion but now that he’s in there I’m encourages…..SO FAR. It’s not him, it’s the hiring process at SC that bothers me. It seems that they always hire someone who has had some association with the school rather than just going out there and hiring the best man and paying for him. As far as all of the ” ‘I don’t know….I just don’t have…I assume…I personally don’t think” statements……the fact is, I don’t know for sure…..none of us do. What they do, they do behind close doors and they don’t tell us.

          • Yeah well we’ll know by 1st October (@ Dallas per AL, UT St., @ Stanford, @ UT).

          • He’s with us at least for 2 – let’s just see what a motivated man who has paid his dues and already seen the carnage of failed head coaches, ‘gets’ the reality this is as ‘Jake Taylor-Tom Berenger’ told ‘Roger Dorn-Corbin Benson’ in ‘Major League’

“Ya know Dorn, I liked you so much better when you were just a ballplayer. If you wanna be an interior decorator now that’s none of my business. But some of us still need this team.

This is my last shot at a winner and for some of the younger guys it could be their only shot.”

          • I don’t think 2 is enough unless he really screws up bad. I think that you have to give him 4-5 years(depending on his contract). SC has an image problem right now. If they only give him 2 years then the next year they had better go out and hire an Urban Meyer type. If they hire another assistant, all of the recruits will be saying “I wonder if this guy will be here by my junior year”. It’s going to be hard to recruit. A lot of the people say that SC will always be able to recruit because they are SC. I don’t agree with that. You can get the reputation of being a Mickey Mouse organization. The great players want to win a national championship. If they think that your organization is run by a bunch of amateurs, they won’t come. Just look at the Lakers. They can’t even get the great ones to talk to them. Forget signing them. They can’t even set up a meeting with them.

          • I agree. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t hire another assistant if CH only lasts 2 years. But I’ve been waiting for a long time for that phone call from Max, asking me for my opinion. So far it hasn’t come and I’m not holding my breath.

  8. IF Donald Trump “hires” the Best “Assistant Coaches”, our Country may soon be Restored. Should Ted Cruz become Attorney General, many rules breaking “Athletes/Coaches” will lose their Scholarships/Jobs, a good thing long overdo. BEAT THE BRUINS !!!.
