USC v. Stanford

USC coach Clay Helton said he wants to pick a starting QB two weeks before the Alabama game. But Stanford coach David Shaw said he has no timetable on his QB compettion.

Shaw: “I think one of the things that we’ve learned through our many trials, and we’ve had multiple quarterback competitions over the 10 years I’ve been at Stanford, you’ve got to let it play out. You can’t make it go the way you want it to go, and until it plays out, you don’t make a decision. Some people may have some anxiety in that, and I don’t . . . We’ll let it play out as long as it needs to play out.”

  1. He’s right and Helton is learning – I can say this dominance is cyclical i.e. it might also be Shaw has concerns between the top two qb’s he’s holding.

  2. I remember the Blogger complaining when Kiffin “let it play out.” If the QB needs two weeks of practice to prepare for the first game then Helton needs to make the decision no later than two weeks before the season starts. Like any position, the QB can always be replaced during the season if his backup improves and surpasses him. It’s not that big of a decision.

    • Blogger just calling them like he see’s em. Which is the glass is always half full.

    • took the words right out of my mouth. But Scottie is – how shall I put it – “thrilled” by Shaw. He can do no wrong in Scottie’s eyes.

  3. We’re in a totally different situation now with Browne and Darnold than the QB battle with 2013 with Kessler and Wittek. Kessler and Wittek were both struggling the whole spring and training camp and it was evident when we played Hawaii and Washington St. This time around all of the feedback has been a lot more positive about Browne and Darnold and it more of a better dilemma having to choose from two talented QB’S rather than “settling” for one.

    • You knew Bubba Bolton intended to bozo u decommit – right?

Sammy what’s the deal; Bolton didn’t want to compete?

      • Hes a little embarrassed at the moment with all the Echols to #ClownU talk.. .and BAM! Bolden bolts the circus

    • Sam “Bam” Cunningham [“Kessler and Wittek were both struggling the whole spring”] = (At Best!), Once again, You are “Entirely” Correct !!!

  4. “WHO” cares what “David-Shaw” thinks ?

He was “Fortunate” to have two good Quarterbacks but did so (See “Oregon” Quacks) while the “USC” Trojans were on some of the hardest “sanctions” (Which was “Criminal”) on any University in “modern” times and with “that” time just “what” did Stanford really accomplish ?

    Umm, Ya !

Sanctions “over”, Stanford and the “Duckies” return to 7 – 8 win teams, if-they’re-lucky…

    Please see “September 17, 2016” !

  5. A lot of talk about McCafferty for the Heisman but I recall after that 1st half shellacking from McCafferty USC did pretty well against him in the 2nd half. Playing them in week 3 at Stanford is a gain getting two nationally ranked top teams in three weeks time.

I suspect McCafferty is going to have a different set of stats after the game on 17th September

  6. Shaw’s getting a new contract worth $4.1 mil a year – how much is our baseball cap man getting?
